A bipartisan group of senators demanded the head of the Department of Veterans Affairs hold VA executives accountable for a "shockingly unethical" plan to give themselves raises.
Led by Sen. Johnny Isakson, chairman of the Senate VA Committee, and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, the committee's ranking Democrat, the lawmakers urged VA Secretary Robert McDonald in a letter Tuesday to "live up" to promises made during his confirmation hearing last summer and rid the agency of employees who break the rules.
The senators cited a September inspector general report that they said "outlines an orchestrated scheme ... to skirt salary and bonus limitations ... by unnecessarily relocating executives and using those moves to justify increases in their pay."
That report had found a number of VA executives created job openings for themselves in other cities, then volunteered to fill the positions by taking advantage of a VA program that pays moving expenses for agency employees.

Why do we need VA hospitals? Why can't the armed forces allow injured soldiers to select their own treatment and simply pay a large portion of the medical bills just like private insurance does?
Are the injuries that soldiers suffer so different from those of civilians that civilian doctors cannot possibly treat them? Is it impossible for a civilian hospital to develop the expertise and acquire the necessary equipment? Do returning soldiers have to be sent to special hospitals so that they won't infect civilians or talk in their sleep and reveal sensitive information? I'm not aware of anything like that.
My impression is that VA hospitals are typically outdated and maybe even deadly. An injured soldier is better off avoiding them entirely.
It seems to me that it is long past time to get the government out of the medical business.

The four ‘witnesses’ testifying have never actually witnessed any of Trump’s dealings with Ukraine firsthand — the four witnesses are law professors offering legal analysis.
One of the witnesses the Dems rolled out is an angry Hillary Clinton donor who was on Crooked’s list for a potential Supreme Court nomination.
No wonder why this unhinged, dowdy woman is so pissed off!
“Professor Pam Karlan donated thousands of dollars to Democrats and was on Hillary Clinton’s list for a potential Supreme Court nomination. So she certainly has no vendetta against President Trump,” GOP Rep. Mark Walker said.
Congressman Walker also pointed out that Noah Feldman, the Dems first partisan witness in Wednesday’s hearing tweeted about impeaching Trump right after he was sworn in.

These witnesses are as serious as House Democrats impeachment case: not at all.
The entire sham show trial is stacked with partisan hacks who have wanted to impeach Trump from the moment he won in November of 2016.
Norm Eisen, the Democrats’ counsel who is blasting Trump and questioning witnesses in Wednesday’s show trial, tweeted about impeaching Trump before Donald Trump was even sworn into office!
