Lawmakers blast VA for 'shockingly unethical' bonus fraud

A bipartisan group of senators demanded the head of the Department of Veterans Affairs hold VA executives accountable for a "shockingly unethical" plan to give themselves raises.

Led by Sen. Johnny Isakson, chairman of the Senate VA Committee, and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, the committee's ranking Democrat, the lawmakers urged VA Secretary Robert McDonald in a letter Tuesday to "live up" to promises made during his confirmation hearing last summer and rid the agency of employees who break the rules.

The senators cited a September inspector general report that they said "outlines an orchestrated scheme ... to skirt salary and bonus limitations ... by unnecessarily relocating executives and using those moves to justify increases in their pay."

That report had found a number of VA executives created job openings for themselves in other cities, then volunteered to fill the positions by taking advantage of a VA program that pays moving expenses for agency employees.

I PRAY THEY HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE EXPENDITURE OF SIX MILLION DOLLARS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED TO THE MEDICAL AID FOR THE WOUNDED, SICK VETERANS.

Nice Hugh!

Congress needs to create metrics for the VA ( or other gov't agencies) that must be met in order to qualify for bonuses. Stop the buddy-buddy plans.

They should not only NOT get raises and or bonuses they should be fired and forced to repay the VA the money they got.

Agreed.  And prosecuted for theft.  And volunteer at a VA hospital so they see who they are stealing from.

I suspect that obama is behind this somehow, once again trying to get favor from Demoncrats, who will eventually benefit by screwing Veterans, who BTW continue to keep getting the S....t end of the stick.I have not seen any noticeable changes at the Denver V.A. from my own experiences , as a matter of fact at one point I canceled five (5) appointments as a result of my frustration and my third Primary doctor in four (4) years.

so far nobody from the VA has been charged with any crimes or accountability. basically the VA scandal has been white washed, covered up or ignored.... and those responsible continue to receive promotions, bonuses or able to retire with full bennies. others were just moved to different facilities or different jobs...and they had gag orders and/or threats against those who wanted to talk......so rest assured...just like the lies and coverups on fast and furious, the VA, the irs...and Benghazi....that deep darkl cellar below the streets of our government will be stuffed full...and locked away for all time.

Yes, we should roll over the VA medical facilities ... out sourcing the current operations to contractors who will operate the system for a flat fee per service... using the Medicare formula for payments.  Put the VA managers on the street where they belong... they have abused the system, lied to us and continue to operate as if they are immune to being fired.

When Trump takes office ... appoint me to head up the VA and I will can the biggest part of the bureaucrats and put the rest on probation... we need accountability and a major overhaul of the VA medical delivery system. Transitioning from the current system to a system of privately contracted care.

There is no reason our veterans should have to wait months for care... none.. other than incompetency and lack of urgency and compassion by those running the VA medical system. I'll work for expenses only... no salary, no bonus.

Private run isn't going to make a difference until people who attain jobs working for these people realize they have a job caring for the VETS and that doesn't mean the "I don't care" attitude. You want to see what private care does take a trip thru a nursing home. It is the quality of the work force, col.

Why can they not be held accountable and put in prison for embezzlement?

America has absolutely no idea how bad Veterans are treated at the VA. I could go on but why.
All a dog and pony show. You can bet there is new BAD NEWS coming about the VA. And anyone who believes for one minute that anyone in the senate gives a rats butt you are as gullible as all out doors.

Hillary Clinton says she is “deluged” with requests to try another run for president and has still not completely ruled out joining the crowded field of 2020 Democrat candidates.

The former U.S. Secretary of State has repeatedly avoided categorically stepping out of the race for the White House – or directly into it, for that matter.

During media appearances in the UK last month, Clinton twice hinted she may make a belated push on the basis she claims so many people want to see her on the national stage once more.

Speaking on the BBC’s Graham Norton Show in London last Friday, Clinton confirmed she would “have to make up my mind really quickly” if she was going to join the race.

When pushed to respond if she would make a run for the White House for a third time, she prevaricated and avoided a direct reply, instead responding with: “As I say, never, never, never say never.”

She did concede she would need to make up her mind “really quickly” about whether or not to jump into the presidential race.

Clinton has already missed the filing deadline for the first primary in New Hampshire but there is no deadline for the next caucuses in Iowa in early February.

Responding to Norton, Clinton said she had been “deluged” over the last few weeks thinking about running again, but added that, “right now, I’m not, at all, planning that.”

Norton asked: “The rumour mill is flying that you could step back into the ring.”

Clinton replied: “I hear that. I have been deluged the last few weeks with thinking about doing that, but right now I’m not at all planning that.”

Last month Clinton told BBC Radio 5 Live she was under “enormous pressure” to consider a 2020 White House run.

When asked about her future in politics, Clinton said, “I feel a sense of responsibility partly because you know my name was on the ballot, I got more votes, but ended up losing to the current incumbent in the White House who I think is really undermining our democracy in very fundamental ways. And I want to retire him.”

When asked if she is absolutely ruling it out, Clinton said, “ I will certainly tell you. I’m under enormous pressure from many, many, many people to think about it. But as of this moment, sitting here in this studio talking to you, that is absolutely not in my plans.”

Clinton and her daughter Chelsea, are currently in London promoting their new co-authored book – The Book Of Gutsy Women: Favourite Stories Of Courage And Resilience.
