The prohibition on transgender individuals serving in the U.S. military "continually should be reviewed," Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said on Sunday.

Hagel did not indicate whether he believes the policy should be overturned. However, he said "every qualified American who wants to serve our country should have an opportunity if they fit the qualifications and can do it."

A transgender individual is someone who has acquired the physical characteristics of the opposite sex or presents themselves in a way that does not correspond with their sex at birth.

A panel convened by a think tank at San Francisco State University recently estimated that about 15,450 transgender personnel serve in the military and in the National Guard and Reserve.

In 2010, Congress passed legislation allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly. Hagel said the issue of transgender serving in the military is more complicated. He said "these issues require medical attention" that at times cannot be provided in austere locations.

The National Center for Transgender Equality said it welcomed Hagel's comments, which were made on ABC's "This Week." The organization's executive director, Mara Keisling, said the regulations that disqualify transgender recruits and service members are based on outdated prejudices and stereotypes.

"If the secretary were able to meet and talk with the trans service members I've met, he'd understand the answer is self-evident. These are amazing people who serve even though they must hide a basic part of who they are," Keisling said.

SPART(asterisk)A, an advocacy group made up of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people who now serve or once served in the military, said a review was long overdue.

"Many of our allies, including the UK, Australia and Israel, allow transgender people to serve with pride and honor in their armed forces. It's time for the U.S. to join them," said Allyson Robinson, the group's policy director and a former Army captain.

A military review of transgender issues could occur as it also deals with questions about how to treat transgender prisoners. Chelsea Manning, a former Army private serving a 35-year prison sentence for providing classified documents to WikiLeaks, is fighting to be treated as a woman. She is seeking a counselor who specializes in gender issues and also wants to get hormone replacement therapy, which the military has said it does not provide.

There are pedophiles in every race straight or gay. Now they need to be stopped. We should put them in prison for life.

Billie, I think you are confusing the gift of 'free will' given to us by God with that of truth and untruth.

We have free will to do that which should lead us to obey or disobey God's law. That is our choice.

What is the scientific proof for transgenderism?! Until science proves a biological / genetic explanation for its existence, government should not give it any special category for special policy considerations! God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve! Furthermore, to date, science has not proven to us that there exists a genetic DNA configuration of X - half X half-Y! We are all either XX or XY!

Sorry Lawrence, but you seem to be ignoring those born intersex (many are xxy, xyy, mosaic and even duplications of the chromosome variations) and some even born with a preborn anomaly affecting the normal development of the hypothalamus/amygdala. Not the same as homosexuality or transgenderism but are somehow being added to that grouping simply as a political numbers game as I see it. For those people I have the deepest sympathy for they are often times confused with those choosing a deviant sexual behavior/lifestyle. God created them as well although I can not at all guess His reasoning nor would I.

Isolate each generation from each other.  Trust no-one punish each person for their inability to understand your fantasy's and create a set of military regs that try to control fantasy island.  What a bunch of crap.  Some humans interact some destroy.  Final outcome you are not worthy of my presence.  Keep the wheels turning.  There are no solutions by regulating fantasy.  Gradual indoctrinations are going to be used to simply make abnormality a sure and certain acceptible behavior.  People who live on the mountains go to the valley and the coast to get away.  People who live on the Coast go to the valley and the mountains to get away.  Men like Hagel will try to regulate the abnormality's that occur even in this activity.  Shakespeare again tried to define every fantasy and emotion that is possible.  The drama queens of today are not any different.  If Hagel lived 300 years and served as Sec. of Def.  he would be re-writing the rules every 6 months.  The reality is no regulation for human fantasy.  Prison populations grow because for some the ultimate fantasy is to make you bleed until you die.  For others it is blowing themselves to smitherines so they can take you out.  Regulating fantasies will actually increase the death rate among all humans.

Good order and discipline my ass

"THAT" is so sick.......

Yikes !!! Ocasio-Cortez: We Need A ‘Multigendered, Multigeographic’ United States

The United States of America needs to be “multigendered” and “multigeographic,” according to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who endorsed fellow socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at the “Bernie’s Back Rally” in New York on Saturday.

The freshman lawmaker and “Squad” member officially endorsed Sanders during a rally in Queensbridge Park in Long Island City, New York, on Saturday and called for more diversity in the U.S., arguing that it should not only be “multiracial” and “multigenerational” but “multigeographic” and “multigendered.”

“We need a United States that really, truly, and authentically is operated, owned, and decided by working – and all – people in the United States of America,” Ocasio-Cortez said to applause.

“That is what it – it is multiracial, multigendered, multigenerational, and multigeographic,” she said, failing to elaborate on what that specifically looks like.

“We have to come together, not ignoring our differences but listening to them, prioritizing them, understanding injustice,” she continued.

The socialist lawmaker also implied that rampant racism is still alive and well in the U.S., telling the crowd that it is essential to understand “that we operate in a context where slavery evolved into Jim Crow, evolved into mass incarceration, [and] evolved into the realities we have today.”
