GOP Outraged After Discovering VA Employees Spent 1.1 Million Hours on Taxpayer-Funded Union Activities

Image result for VA corruptionHouse Republicans berated the Department of Veterans Affairs on Thursday for allowing hundreds of employees to devote all their taxpayer-funded work hours to union activities instead of helping veterans.

VA records reveal that 290,000 employees spent around 1.1 million hours on union affairs in fiscal year 2015, with 346 of those employees devoting all of their hours to official time, the Daily Caller reported Friday.

Official time is, according to the Office of Personnel Management, "paid time off from assigned government duties to represent a union or its bargaining unit employees," for which taxpayers foot the bill.

This discovery led Republicans and some Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations to demand that the VA provide a full account of how official time is spent at the VA.

The issue arose after a recent report from the Government Accountability Office showed that the VA does not have a standardized method of tracking hours and attendance. The department uses two different systems to record and calculate work hours and it has not properly trained employees on how to use them.

OBVIOUSLY.............there are lots of employees we don't need.  CUT THE FAT...

We need to dissolve the VA. Competely. Trump will do this.

As a VETERAN who uses the VA regularly, SUZAN,  I would be the first one to point the finger at any PROBLEMS that were hurting Veterans at these facilities.  First, there are NO HOSPITALS or CLINICS that are TOTALLY without problems anywhere in this Country !!!! The VA is" Clinically"slightly better than civilian Hospitals on the average. But the VA's MAJOR Problems are in the "MANAGEMENT and BUREAUCRACY" end. In other words, with EACH change in Administrations between Republicans and Democrats, each Political Party seems to think they are going to make MONUMENTAL CHANGES in the VA System that will "HELP" Veterans. NOT SO !!!! Yes, changes are needed as MEDICINE PROGRESSES and the entire MEDICAL FIELD make more and more upgraded improvements. But it is "KEEPING UP with these IMPROVEMENTS that is where the PROBLEMS lie !!!!  GOVERNMENT as USUAL, is WAY BEHIND THE CURVE at making these changes, therefore while LOCAL HOSPITALS are ahead of certain procedures and medicinal upgrades and changes, the VA gets lost in the shuffle, until 6 months to a year the changes are finally made, (if at all ) !!!!

So before you say the VA should be "DISSOLVED", ....THINK AGAIN  !!!! Maybe the POLITICALLY APPOINTED BUREAUCRATS should be replaced by DOCTORS and People with EXTENDED KNOWLEDGE of MEDICAL MANAGEMENT and KEPT around for a while so they can USE THEIR EXPERTISE and not be shuffled off to a new Facility every month. I have no truck with the Doctors and Nurses and people who are the First responders at the VA. They do the best they can under the circumstances and are basically caring and dedicated people who love working with Veterans.

"Don't throw out the baby with the bath water" !!!!  let's FOCUS in on the REAL PROBLEMS and NOT THE POLITICAL FIXES !!!!

MY MOTHER WAS IN A VERY WELL KNOWN HOSPITAL IN OUR STATE  { THE CAPITAL OF THE STATE }  THE WASTE I SEEN WHILE SHE WAS THERE NOT GOOD !!  THE EXCESS OF THINGS IN HER ROOM . THEY WOULD NEVER USE AND WOULD THROW AWAY AFTER SHE LEFT THE HOSPITAL !!  EVERYONE KEEP BRING IN THINGS TO HER ROOM AND NOT USING IT !!!!!!!! THEN THERE WAS ALL THE TEST AND EXPERIMENTING !!  I SAT ON A LOT OF EXCESS !!

It's there own damn fault. They are SUPPOSED to oversee budgets of agencies, IT'S THEIR JOB.

They left it to the unelected 4th branch of government, AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION.

QUIT PASSING THE BUCK.

Another example of a union screwing the tax payers. Time to abolish unions and thier ideals. Right to work, instead of paying dues to work. Union pension funds are not as good of an investment that unions represent. The pension funds make Union bosses rich off the employees backs.

Mitch, I believe there should be NO UNIONS for government employees - any government employees/public service employees. To me, they're holding up the taxpayers with a gun to meet their union demands. Yes, they're taxpayers, too, but government employees get great perks and benefits, salaries are commensurate with private sector. So...if you don't like your job, find one elsewhere.

TRUMP:  Trump To Give ‘Start Your Engines’ Command At Dayton

President Donald Trump will give the command for drivers to start their engines before the Daytona 500.

Daytona International Speedway officials named Trump the grand marshal for NASCAR’s season opener, meaning he will deliver the most famous four words in auto racing. “Gentleman, start your engines,” has been a staple of races around the country and world for decades.

White House spokesman Judd Deere said Thursday the president plans to attend the race. Track president Chip Wile confirmed the news in a release.

“Daytona International Speedway has been privileged to have hosted several sitting presidents of the United States over our history,” Wile said. “We’re honored that the president of the United States has chosen to experience the pageantry and excitement of ‘The Great American Race.’”

Trump is the third sitting president to attend a race at Daytona, but only the second to attend the Daytona 500. George W. Bush attended in 2004. Trump is the first to be given an honorary role in pre-race ceremonies.

Trump is scheduled to spend part of the Presidents Day weekend at his private club in Palm Beach, Florida.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a flight restriction for Sunday and the U.S. Secret Service, which is responsible for presidential security, also tweeted to fans that drones are prohibited within 30 miles of the race in Daytona Beach — a restriction put in place for presidential visits.

Trump has hosted previous NASCAR champions at the White House and last October awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to motorsports titan Roger Penske. Last year, Trump also praised retired driver Mario Andretti, the Daytona 500 winner in 1967, reminiscing about a ride Andretti gave him in a race car for his reality show “The Apprentice.”

“I said, ‘Mario, get me out of here. I want to get out of this car,’” Trump recalled. “We went so fast. We literally — we covered four blocks in like a second.”
