New York has contained the virus recently even as it surges in other parts of the country

New York City teachers took to the streets of Lower Manhattan on Monday afternoon to protest Mayor Bill de Blasio's proposed plan to reopen schools in just over a month's time.

Around 200 educators got creative and brought along a host of visual aids including homemade coffins, skeletons and guillotines to make their point - that they don't feel schools are safe to go back to, yet.

The protesters consisted of a mix of educators, parents and students who marched from the United Federation of Teachers Headquarters to the NYC Department of Education offices, chanting 'We demand safe schools!' and 'Hey-hey, ho-ho, Bill de Blasio has got to go!'

One group carried a guillotine with the initials 'DOE' on the blade along with 'US' where a head would normally be while others carried coffin-like boxes and body bags.

'Children cannot focus on schoolwork if their family members or teachers are in the hospital or dying,' said Frankie Cook,  a kindergarten teacher to the New York Post. 'Children cannot learn if they're dead.

'Schools will be like prisons. Teachers' main focus will be on enforcing health and safety because one slip could cause someone their lives,' Cook said.

  • Are these the same teachers that were burning and destroying private property.

  • Just sharing. Where I teach, surveys were put out to all of us about whether we were worried about CoVid, etc.and asking for input.

10-15% were not worried about it at all, and wanted face to face classes to begin. The rest bought the lies.  Small percentage, but at least some are awake.

But, the final edict from the Top, is 30% can be F2F, the other 70% are remote (independent) and among that group are also "blended", which means they also have class via Zoom with attendance taken.
And masks are required. Period. I have a Doctor's Exemption. And it does not matter. The policy is so strict that verbatim launguage is to be said if a student comes in without a mask. There are 3 verbatim dialogues, each one escalating to a point of dismissal and removal from campus. For staff and faculty, the ultimate, dismissal, is on the table. No exemptions. Period. For anything. At all.

  • Paul...

The social distancing I was facetiously implying be done... was to fire all the offending teachers and administration... thus, removing all social contact with our children and educational institutions... tossing them out on their keesters... socially distancing them from our public schools.

  • Fine, so I would like someone to tell me how BLM And the teachers can protest but I cannot go into a restaurant and eat .  Hum THIS IS POLITICAL W/90 DAYS LEFT TIL THE ELECTION AND THESE DEM MARXISTS ARE DOING THEIR BEST TO GET CHINA UKRAINE JOE ELECTED GOD HELP US IF THAT HAPPENS.

WE HAVE TO RE-ELECT PRES TRUMP.    FIRE THESE MANIACS AND STOP ELECTING THE SAME PEOPLE OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

    • If Joe and his son have violated the law why is the AG not arresting them NOW... not latter?  Look the AG and the DOJ in general are not doing their jobs... they have been totally corrupted and President Trump needs to address the nation on just how serious it is .... listing the pending investigations which will never result in indictments without first cleaning out the swamp in the DOJ and FBI.

  • The world always can use more bartenders. Especially now that AOC has discovered the breadline that never quits

  • Thank God Pres. Trump is pushing for allowing praying to return to the public school system.  When pray was denied in the past that enbolden the underground communist entity that invaded the school system.

  • If the teachers don't show up for first day of school fire them!!

    • I am amazed at the lack of knowledge in this administration regarding the existing and long term rights of students to engage in student-led prayer on public school grounds... without being harassed or bullied.  the 1984 Equal Access Act provides statutory affirmation of the 1st Amendment rights of student-led prayer... the problem is that the DOJ is not enforcing the law...

The 1962 Supreme Court decision to ban prayer in the Public Schools was overturned by the 1984 Equal access Act and subsequent court decisions... This administration and its DOD have not been enforcing the laws... including violating the federal statutes that make it a felony to deny the civil rights of anyone under the color of law and the use of their office or position of power to deny others their civil rights.  Denying a child the right to pray in school is A CRIMINAL ACT and the DOJ has failed to enforce it...

Put the next public school official who denies a student their right to pray in prison... it is a federal felony.  Wake up DOJ do your job and stop acting as if you are concerned in these press conferences... and then quickly ignoring all the violations public school administrations are committing.

18 U.S. Code § 242.Deprivation of rights under color of law

    • At the time of our founding Benjamin Franklin actually contributed a few bibles to schools. Now the students are denied the right to even say a prayer.

The constitution makes it clear of the special right of religious expression. How we ever got to this state can only be blamed on the democrat party that houses so many of the devils henchmen.
