vaccines may be available soon

{ jpost.com } ~ While a vaccine against the novel coronavirus is expected to take upward of a year to develop and test... other treatments for the deadly threat could be just a few months away, health experts say. More than 410,000 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and over 18,000 have died. Several countries have gone into lockdown as the number of those infected by the highly contagious disease continues to rapidly rise. Scientists around the world are racing to develop treatments and vaccines, which will have to undergo several rounds of testing and clinical trials before moving on to mass production. “More than 20 vaccines are in development globally, and several therapeutics are in clinical trials,” an official for the World Health Organization told The Media Line. “No treatment and vaccine exist yet, but researchers around the world are working hard for it.” While a vaccine will likely take between 12 and 18 months to be proven safe and effective and be produced for mass use, other effective treatments could emerge much sooner. Prof. Peter Jay Hotez, a prominent virologist and the dean of the Baylor College of Medicine’s National School of Tropical Medicine in Houston, Texas, told The Media Line that the earliest treatment that could work against COVID-19 would be a convalescent serum antibody therapy, in which the antibodies of a person who has recovered from the virus are injected into a sick patient. In a study published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases in 2014, researchers demonstrated how convalescent blood plasma might be effective to significantly reduce mortality rates, if administered to those who have contracted severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs) soon after their symptoms first appear. According to Hotez, the next treatment to emerge after this will most likely be “repurposed existing antiviral drugs in a few weeks or months, then new chemical drugs within a year, and a vaccine in one to three years.” Interestingly, Hotez and his team of scientists already developed a coronavirus vaccine years ago, following the 2002-2004 SARS outbreak, which spread out of China and ended up killing more than 770 people worldwide. However, when the vaccine reached the stage of human testing in 2016, he was unable to secure further funding, and the trials were never concluded. “At the time we manufactured it, people had lost interest in coronavirus epidemics and pandemics,” Hotez said, adding that researchers are now working to repurpose that vaccine for COVID-19....

Meanwhile her dawdling increases the death rate from suicide as despair overtakes hope among those who watch their livelihoods and futures slip away. It is likely that more Americans will die from economic anxiety and hardship that from the virus. Poverty kills and so does liar-Nancy Pelosi and her political boy toy Chuck scumbag-Schumer. Parenthetically, can anyone imagine dinky-Harry Reid letting liar-Pelosi telling Senate Democrats what to do? Americans are dying as we speak because liar-Nancy Pelosi remembers Rahm Emanuel’s adage that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste and exploits a global pandemic to achieve her liberal agenda: House liar-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s newly announced "relief" proposal, titled the “Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act,” cancels the U.S. Postal Service's $11 billion in debt and gives it $20 billion in cash. It mandates that the head of each federal department or agency “shall submit to Congress a report on the actions taken to increase the use of minority banks and minority credit unions to serve the financial needs of each such department or agency." It empowers the newly proposed COVID–19 Aid Oversight Panel to collect data on “employee demographics,” “supplier diversity,” “pay equity,” and “corporate board diversity" for any organization that receives federal funds in connection with the coronavirus pandemic….The liar-Speaker’s “relief” proposal makes early voting available in all 50 states. It mandates that each state must allow same-day voter registration. It has an entire section titled, “Federal employee collective bargaining and official time," referring to taxpayer-funded unions. It requires that airlines fully offset their carbon emissions. It contains new rules for improving “consumer information regarding release of greenhouse gasses from flights.”…Early voting? Student loan forgiveness? Offsetting carbon emissions? Bailing out the post office? Policing “corporate board diversity”? These have nothing to do with preventing further economic ruin or COVID-19-related deaths. They are merely items on the Democratic Party's wish list -- issues that excite their left-wing base. Americans want relief from the Chinese Wuhan virus and liar-Pelosi offers them nothing but Green New Deal pork and carve-outs to key Democratic constituencies. Her goody bag will not cure a single virus patient. It will not resurrect a dying economy. Thank God we elected President Trump, who got our economy going to the point it could survive, at least so far, the impact of this global pandemic. Thank God President Trump imposed a travel ban on a lying and perfidious China while Democrats like loose lips liar-Joe Biden were calling him racist and xenophobic. $2 Trillion Emergency Relief Package For Coronavirus Has Been Reached

{ dailycaller.com } ~ Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell confirmed early Wednesday morning that a bipartisan deal for a nearly $2 trillion emergency relief package to address the coronavirus pandemic has been reached... McConnell said the deal “will get more equipment to the heroes on the front lines” and that “this is a wartime level of investment.” The Majority Leader also added that “this has been a long week for the Senate,” and that they “are going to pass this legislation later today.” “Ladies and gentlemen we are done. We have a deal. Much of the work on bill text has been completed and I’m hopeful over the next few hours we’ll finish what’s left and we will circulate it early in the morning,” White House Legislative Affairs Director Eric Ueland said. The text is set to come out later Wednesday. Two GOP Senate aides told the Daily Caller there was no way the vote would happen Tuesday night, as many expected it would, instead there was an announcement of a deal. North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows was on Capitol Hill late, telling reporters the deal will happen “very very soon.” This comes as the Senate again failed to pass a procedural cloture vote Monday. The vote was 49-46. Republicans needed 60 yes votes to pass the vote. On Sunday night the Senate tried to pass a cloture vote but failed 47-47 as no Democrats would jump on board. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Sunday that the bill would include $75 billion for hospitals and that two-thirds of all new money in the bill would go to states. If these things were read off to you in a vacuum, you probably have a vision of a person in your mind, and that person isn’t a Republican. You’d be right. Borysenko is a lifelong Democrat. She says that’s ending in the fall, however, in part because of what House liar-Speaker Nancy Pelosi pulled on the COVID-19 relief bill. You may have seen the bill yourself: House Democrats larded their proposal with tons of liberal wish-list items. Let’s take a look at some of the provisions, per Fox News. U.S. Postal Service bailout? Check. A $15 minimum wage for any company accepting federal assistance? Check. Union-boosting provisions? Check-plus. Forcing states to do same-day voter registration and prohibiting them from “imposing additional conditions or requirements on the eligibility of a voter to cast an absentee ballot such as notarization or witness signatures, and prohibits requiring identification to obtain an absentee ballot?” Check, of course. It’s not like we didn’t know what this was all about. Democratic House Majority Whip scumbag-James Clyburn of South Carolina reportedly summarized it quite nicely: “This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision,” he told members of the House Democratic caucus on a conference call, according to reports. This was angled by liar-Pelosi as a matter of standing up to big business. “The Senate Republicans’ bill put corporations first, not workers & families,” she said in a tweet Monday. “Today, @HouseDemocrats will unveil a bill that takes responsibility for the health, wages & well-being of America’s workers: the Take Responsibility for Workers & Families Act.”....

{ wnd.com } ~ Former Vice President loose lips liar-Joe Biden’s first video briefing from his Delaware home got off to a rough start Monday... when the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee struggled out of the gate and committed a number of gaffes during a prepared speech. loose lips liar-Biden announced Friday that he would begin holding his own shadow briefings about the coronavirus in a promise to hold President Donald Trump accountable for his response to the public health crisis. As scheduled, loose lips liar-Biden appeared Monday at a podium from inside his Wilmington estate. The roughly 15-minute briefing quickly devolved into a series of mishaps and apparent equipment malfunctions, which led to the candidate being mocked across social media. While the former vice president attempted to assure Americans he has the answers to the country’s health and economic problems, he appeared both lost and unprepared at times. At the opening of the briefing, loose lips liar-Biden had to be reminded by his staff that the conference had begun. The candidate sat for a number of moments in silence as the camera rolled. While waiting for the already live briefing to begin, loose lips liar-Biden touched his face, apparently forgetting warnings from health authorities that people should refrain from touching their faces in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. loose lips liar-Biden later appeared to momentarily forget what he was talking about when delivering remarks about the rising number of coronavirus cases. loose lips liar-Biden said government officials must, “Beef up the number of responders dealing with the crush -- these crush of cases. And, uh, and in addition to that, um.” The 77-year-old then waved his hand under the podium and continued, “In addition to that, we have to -- make sure that we, uh -- we are in a position that -- we are -- well, let me go to the second thing. I've spoke enough of that.” Some speculated loose lips liar-Biden might have been dealing with a teleprompter malfunction. In praising governors across the country for their leadership, loose lips liar-Biden referred to Massachusetts Gov. Michael Swartz The message of protecting seniors from the spread of China Virus is important because, according to the CDC, the virus is far more lethal to them due to their weakened physical status and less robust immune systems. Theirs is the age group singled out by the CDC to remain home as much as possible and keep 30 days’ worth of groceries on hand.
On the other hand, the youth of this country are on an indefinite coronavirus vacation. Most secondary schools have begun with a two-week hiatus concluding next week — although it will certainly be extended for at least another couple of weeks, if not the rest of the school year. But those in college will likely finish this semester by taking their classes online from home.
Protection only goes so far, though. Despite the loss of athletics and social events around campus, students determined to participate in the annual rite of spring break were crowding Florida beaches and nightspots. “If I get corona, I get corona,” said one reveler to The Washington Post. “At the end of the day, I’m not going to let it stop me from partying.”
That same feeling of invincibility was expressed by another young beachgoer: “It’s really messing with my spring break,” she complained. “I think they’re blowing it way out of proportion.”
But try telling that to the increasing number of Millennials being admitted to hospitals due to the coronavirus. Many other young people are asymptomatic, however, and they’re bringing home more than just a tan. This is bad news for all those they come in contact with (especially the elderly), which is why these spring breakers are of greatest concern to public-health officials.
The adults have since taken charge, though, and an incensed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis lowered the boom on the celebration. While the state’s beaches aren’t officially closed, the bars and nightclubs are. And that may be enough to break up the party. “The message I think for spring breakers is that the party’s over in Florida,” DeSantis declared. “The bars are closed … so we would just tell those folks maybe come back next year when things are better.”
Nor is it just Florida beaches: The mayor of Ocean City, Maryland, was also urging people to stay home. “While we look forward to the time when we can welcome you again, now is not the time to visit Ocean City,” said Mayor Rick Meehan. As a nearby escape from the Beltway regions, the town was inundated last weekend with St. Patrick’s Day revelers despite the cancellation of their annual parade and a confirmation that a holiday weekend visitor later tested positive for COVID-19.
While it’s unlikely that many senior citizens were mingling with the spring-break crowd, many of those college students will be back home with their families soon. And with the incubation period of the virus estimated to be as long as 14 days, hitting a jam-packed beach clearly wasn’t the best of all ideas. ~The Patriot Post
