STATEMENT FROM CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE
Washington, Jan 13 - 2011
“Wednesday evening in Tucson, Arizona, President Obama
accurately said, ‘There is no way to know what triggered the
rampage that left six people dead, thirteen others wounded and
the nation shaken.’ And he further challenged us by saying,
‘we can be better.’ I agree.
“Also on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., on the floor of the
House, in tribute to Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, those
who lost their lives and the wounded, I said that ‘now it is
time for us to do our best, to be a servant and a leader
giving to others first, showing by example.’
“That is why I am so very, very disappointed that the
former Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, chose to
interrupt this spirit of harmony by interjecting an eight
minute discussion that was more divisive than it was unifying.
I am saddened because the day that she chose, was the day of
the Memorial Tribute, and that day should have been a time
when no one interjected themselves above the non-partisan
spirit of reflection and inspiration. Further, the use of the
term “blood-libel” was unfortunate and warrants a
clarification. I hope -- as we go forward, we can have a
collective unified voice against violence, and not focus on
our individual selves or any perceived personal slight. And we
should continue to reach out to each other.
“Finally, I join the President in saying again, ‘We can be
better,’ and I personally believe America is at her best when
she is doing her best.”

Dear Dennis,
I listened to the show today (Thursday, Jan.13,2011) and agree with your commentary and sentiments on the subjects of rhetoric and "blood libel" accusations being over the top from the progressive leftists, most of which have accused Sarah Palin of ignorance to the actual historical context of her reference to this. It may be well advised for these people to note that former Governor Palin is an avid supporter of Israel, and in no way anti-Jewish.
Secondly, I read the following statement directly from Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee's official U.S. Congressional Website of TX-18, in which I live. IT is deeply offensive, and despicable to publish such a public statement, in my opinion. I have included a track-back link for your reference.
You be your own judge if this is another scurrilous liberal, leftist attack, breach of protocol and decorum for a sitting Congresswoman to politicize issues as sensitive as this in official government documents. I don't think the former governor owes Ms. Jackson Lee any such clarifications, as she is not involved in any official business of the 112th Congress or hearings to my knowledge. I would have a few requests for clarifications of my own as a registered voter in her district, and a natural-born citizen of Texas and the United States. Every memo and request for response from me as an official constituent of Texas District 18 has been ignored to date.
