4063662454?profile=original           Is Black History Month still necessary with Barack Obama Election

Has Black History Month met its end with the re-election of Barack Obama? One could make a solid case for calling a halt to the month of February as an official celebration of the achievements of Black Americans, since many of the injustices of the past have died away along with the perpetrators. In the 21st Century should not the focus be on a unified America that celebrates and acknowledges the achievements of all Americans throughout the year?

The advent of Black History month began in 1926 as the second week in February, and was known as Negro History Week. Its creator, black historian Carter G. Woodson was clear about its purpose and eventual end. He insisted at the time that the holiday be eliminated, when “black history became fundamental to American history.”

Last year, noted international author Maya Angelou appeared to agree when she explained in an interview, "We want to reach a time when there won't be Black History Month, when black history will be so integrated into American history that we study it along with every other history," according to Fox News.

Well, it appears apparent that the jury is in and the verdict is clear, the need for Black History Month has met it original purpose. Woodson’s edict was that the need for the month to continue into perpetuity was not its purpose. Black history has been mainstreamed into what it always has been, and that is; part of America’s history. Even Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman strongly asserted in a Sixty Minutes interview, "Black History Month is ridiculous… Black History is American History!"

Well it seems that Barack Obama’s election has sealed the deal on that, considering that February was chosen as the official month to honor Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. Lincoln freed the black slaves and, is it not fitting that the end of this holiday has indeed run its natural course with the election and re-election of the first black president of the United States?

Americans have an opportunity to move on and stop reliving the practices and outrages of racism which once permeated every aspect of the nation’s culture. Blacks have been elected governors, and congress has growing numbers of black elected leaders. Now with a president who is black, where again is the need for Black History Month?

It is unnecessary to keep track of black achievement in areas of professionalism and other fields of achievement. These achievements are American achievements, and should not continue to be segregated or celebrated by racial designation.

The nation should be focused on celebrating the future of a united nation where racial designations have no purpose or place. If America is to truly become one nation, indivisible with justice for all, then it must do away with the categories and the special designations which continue to keep Americans separate and apart. Is this not now the spirit and practice of reverse racism?

  • Daniel C. Brown Jr;

You have insulted the ketchup industry in your heinz 57 comparison to O; but there is a similarity of color preference; both being red; but now, I, by that statement, join you in disgrace for suggesting the red color of a tomato includes it in the communist state of affairs; not to say tomatoes don't exist in communist arenas; but I am certain if a tomato had a choice it would grow in a free environment; a tomato being a perfect creation of God; but alas, their roots disallow travel.....they are doomed to existence where God decides they will grow; and just as the rain falls upon the just and unjust, as scripture states.

Tomato roots are self-evident whereas O's roots are covered up by a myriad of traitors to America with all manner of crap fertilzing the continuous lies; he being the spokesperson for the evil that continues to terrorize our nation; and those roots no doubt reach around the globe!

  • The reality is that skin color doesn't define intelligence to rule the masses; at least not in an ideal government; which we will NEVER attain; so all this discussion is moot.

The black community went to great lengths historically to get Black History Month and I see no good coming from getting rid of it. The common black takes great pride in what has been accomplished with Black History Month and I for one white do not believe taking it away from them is a good move; but in fact it would be disasterous.

Black History Month has generated a freedom of expression for the masses that would not have otherwise existed and has given confidence to those growing up to reach out and make something of themselves in a free society that recognizes their rights should be equal to everyone else.

Morgan Freeman DOES NOT represent the common black. I love his acting and respect his talents which were given him by God; but I question his purpose for making this staement at this time and feel it is subversive in nature and counterproductive to racial tension.\

This action he has taken reaches most deeply into the souls of the black children who continue to struggle for equal recognition; and especially those who feel they are discriminated against; AND YES, THIS DISCRIMINATING ATTITUDE STILL EXISTS IN CERTAIN PARISHES!!!

This is something we as a nation must continue to work hard to eradicate; to ensure we never forget the wrongs against the black community that can never be made right.

Skin color is not a deciding factor on any earthly life issue in God's eyes. Scripture records skin color creation as a result of disobedience; just as many other changes God has made to us to remind us we are mandated by God to obey.

Skin color is not a factor where benefits to mankind arise in a black or white genius. God gifts all who use them for God's glory regardless of skin color; and all benefit regardless of skin color from those benefits.

I disagree that Black History Month is isolationist and segregationist. Those thoughts are in the minds of the beholder who decide for themselves whether they are racist or open-minded on the issue.

I have black friends who I don't see as black but as individuals and they know how I feel. Those who continue to acknowledge the racist issue fan the flames for hotter rhetoric.

We need to throw some water of reason an the subject to let it cool down slowly.

  • This president is a little white and a lot of muslim; his presence has nothing to do with the Black community.  He is not one of them.  Do we need a white caucus?  If not, then why do we need a black caucus?

  • the democrat party, the communist, socialist, marxist and progressives, are united in two basic concepts......power and victims. they must have the victims to control with their ideology, and they must have the power of control in order to accomplish that. so without victims, and the low information population....the commies, marxist and democrats, just dont exhist. black history month will never be over...it may change a little, but the message will be the same....the struggle for equality, no matter how much money is dumped into it, no matter how many black presidents you elect....the struggle will never be over....and so indirectly all of us who are not of color, will become the victims....and thats just fine with them.

  • I was informed obamalama was arab-black/white. not a true mulatto.  Arabs in the United Arab Emirate call him a (PUG-muslim).

  • Really what we need is divine intervention in the form of a massive earth-shattering event that destroys us all because the next life will be eternal bliss and no more garbage from mankind.

  • Of course he's black, and whatever else he calls himself to gain leverage. Truth doesn't matter because lies rule the day. Every time he opens his mouth another lie comes out and his supporters love him all the more.

  • The average black feels color is very important simply because blacks have everything to gain playing the race card and nothing to lose. Skin color will never go away because they won't let it.

Morgan Freeman is rubbing it in the white man's nose and he knows it.

  • I think Morgan freeman makes a good point realistically. The less we emphasize people skin color the less color matters and the more american we all look.

  • I WANT NO HISTORY MONTH . THE CRAP THEY TEACH KIDS IN GOVT SCHOOLS THESE DAYS ,
MIGHT AS WELL BE SKIPPED ALL TOGETHER .
