Follow-up Letter to NM Governor Mitchell Lujan Grisham (Re: Border Security or Lack Thereof)!

I again am taking the liberty of sharing the following letter that I recently sent to our NM Governor with you regarding security and/or lack thereof at our southern border:

Letter to Governor Lujan Grisham:

November 6, 2019

Honorable Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham:

On January 18, 2019, I wrote to your office regarding various gun control proposals that you supported on the campaign trail and which had recently been filed in the New Mexico Legislature, along with revealing some safety and security concerns that were expressed by several ranchers that currently reside at and/or near our southern border after discovering Islamic prayer rugs on their properties. I also included links to pertinent articles and/or reports pertaining to these disturbing issues in said letter.

On February 14, 2019, I again wrote to your office because of your actions that called for the removal of the majority of our National Guard troops from our southern border, which was revealed in several articles that were also included in said letter.

For your information and much to my dismay, I never received a response to either of my above letters, but be that as it may, today I am writing because of the tragedy that occurred recently near our southern border, where three (3) U.S. women and six (6) innocent children were murdered when a group of cartel gunmen ambushed them. I addition, six (6) more children were allegedly injured and one (1) young girl is still missing. What follows is a recent article that revealed said massacre, which I have taken the liberty of including in its entirety, along with including links to several other recent articles that I believe are pertinent to this extremely disturbing and unforgivable massacre-You Decide:

NARCO-TERROR: 9 U.S. Women, Children Murdered by Cartel Gunmen near New Mexico Border!-Posted on Breitbart.com-By Ildefonso Ortiz-On November 5, 2019:

A group of cartel gunmen ambushed and murdered three women and six children near a rural Mormon community in Mexico, close to the New Mexico border. Six more children, all from the same family, were also injured. One additional girl remains missing. Relatives stated that all of the victims are dual U.S. and Mexican citizens.

The attack took place on Monday when three women from the Lebaron family were driving their 14 children from the town of Bavispe, Sonora, to a rural Mormon community called La Mora. According to Mexico’s SinEmbargo.com.mx, Rhonita Miller Lebaron was driving one of the vehicles with her four children–two six-month-old twins and two ages 8 and 9–when her SUV got a flat tire. Her relatives turned back towards Bavispe to bring a spare.

When the relatives returned, they found large plumes of smoke coming from the roadside scene. The relatives found a charred SUV with their loved inside the vehicle. Soon after, a group of cartel gunmen attacked and forced them to run into the brush for cover.

The two other women and their children were struck numerous times by gunfire. Six of the children ran into the brush and survived, but one young girl is still missing. In the aftermath, cartel gunmen sealed the area for hours to keep news of the massacre from spreading. Lebaron family members in the U.S. took to social media to raise awareness about the murders.

UPDATE

Initial reports from the family said 12 members were killed. Over night, the number of dead adjusted to 10. Alfonso Durazo, Mexico’s Public Security Secretary, announced Tuesday morning that the death toll stands at three women and six children. Another six children were injured and one more remains missing as of Tuesday morning.

In addition to the above recent massacre, an El Paso Sector Border Patrol Agent recently returned fire and killed a shooter in southern New Mexico. Additionally, the week before said killing Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents encountered an alleged human smuggler who had a 9mm pistol in the door pocket of the vehicle driven by the smuggler and one day before that Brackettville Station agents allegedly found a backpack containing another 9mm pistol in an area where a human smuggler and a group of migrants had been found.  Said article also revealed that human smugglers are allegedly now arming themselves with firearms, which is now becoming a common trend. Officials say an El Paso Sector Border Patrol agent exchanged gunfire with a subject on Monday morning in Sunland Park, New Mexico. The agent returned fire, striking and killing the alleged shooter.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent came under fire near the Mexican border Monday morning after encountering a group of four people, according to a statement from El Paso Sector Border Patrol officials.

Officials tweeted the agent returned fire and that one person was transported to an area hospital. Doctors reported the subject died from his wounds at the hospital, officials stated. No Border Patrol agents received injuries during the exchange of gunfire, say federal authorities.

“During the encounter, the subject produced a firearm and shot at the agent,” El Paso Sector officials reported. “The agent returned fire striking the subject. An agent rendered aid to the subject until emergency medical personnel arrived.”

No additional information about the events leading up to the shooting is available at this time. The shooting will be investigated by the FBI and the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility.

Last week, Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents encountered an alleged human smuggler who had a 9mm pistol in the door pocket of the vehicle driven by the smuggler, Breitbart Texas reported. One day before that, Brackettville Station agents found a backpack containing another 9mm pistol in an area where a human smuggler and a group of migrants had been found.

“Smugglers arming themselves with firearms is becoming a common trend,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz said in a written statement. “This poses a threat to not only our agents but the community and those being smuggled as well.”

I am again hereby respectfully asking that, after having some time to review and digest the extremely disturbing information revealed in the recent articles and/or reports included above, you hopefully reconsider and reverse your action to remove the majority of our National Guard troops from our southern border because I believe that having some of our National Guard troops along our southern border will greatly assist in ensuring the safety and security of our New Mexico residents that reside not only along our southern border, but throughout New Mexico.  

Looking forward to hearing from your office regarding this extremely concerning and time-sensitive issue.

Please note that your non-response to my numerous letters regarding these and other extremely disturbing issues affecting and/or impacting our overall state will only inspire and motivate me to continue writing to your office until something is done to insure the safety and security of our beloved children and residents of this great state of ours.
