Thank you Col. Your counsel please: who charges Mattis with treason and how is the charge adjudicated? Does a conviction of treason mean the death penalty (I hope)? Firing squad? The President would suspend Mattis... relieving him of his duties... PENDING an Article 32 Investigation to determine if there was indeed a violation of military law and charges are warranted. The President can appoint a Senior Officer or take it upon himself directly to rule on the findings of the Article 32 Investigation... If the Article 32 investigation finds probable cause to charge Gen. Mattis with a violation(s) of the law, he could then be bound over by Presidential order... to stand trial by Courts-martial... or the President could take other administrative action as he deems appropriate. The convening authority for such an action would be the President as Commander in Chief... with the Secretary of Defense doing all the leg work, investigation, and conducting any trial or other admin action the President orders.
Woodward is not exempt from treason by reason of the 1st Amendment protections afforded journalist... if he commits treason or conspires to violate the law he is subject to prosecution under civil authority.... the FBI or local law enforcement in the jurisdiction where the alleged crime occurred.
James Mattis resigned as Secretary of Defense at the end of February 2020. Aren't we beating a dead horse here?

The Obama Administration had 8yrs to seed the DOD with Deep State Operatives ... favoring a New World Order and the fundamental transformation of the United States fundamental elements of government... and it's economy. Pres. Trump needs to take a personal and direct role in reviewing all of the top officers and commanders to ensure they continue the tradition of non-political service. Those senior officers who oppose the President's policies and publically resist his orders need to be retired or court-martialed on the very first offense... the very first brush with resistance too the President's lawful execution of his office as Commander in Chief.
If we, and he, don't concentrate right now on his re-election in November, none of this is going to matter very much. The Bernie Bro socialist Democrats with their partners in Big Tech will have a free for all field day completing the bankruptcy of the USA, silencing all opposing voices and submitting our country to the New World Order, with the United Nations and China firmly leading the way.
