If you ever wathced them build a high rise... OMG! Hundreds in total ... Skinny, Dirty - but I'll admit extremely hard working guys. A bunch were opening cement bags from a massive pile, a huge amount had wheel barrows and a few Senior guys with garden hoses filled them with water. They all were either shovel or hand mixed. Then like ants they'd run up the stairs... wheel barrows sloshing on a make shift ramp till they got to what ever floor was to be poured. I can't fathom in the Tropical heat and humidity how any of this met structual rigidity!
Yep... Settling Traffic tickets in person at gun point - been there done that! I remember just after I had arrived, was tranisiting thru Corundo to the Base. We were stuck at the Bridge transition back to 2 way traffic. Remember young boy window washers... well they ran up and squirted ??? all over my wind screen eventhough I gave them the finger wag. Whe they realized I hit with internal washer fluid and wipers, they tossed a heavy murky liquid all over my windshield and ran away. As I was trying get it off... a PNP tapped on my drivers side and he told me what amounted too "he just ticketed me for having an obstructed view". My fine was $20... LOL. He goty his $20 and I endured a scary drive trying to see where the heck I was going!

While stationed there I rented on Embassy row. The Edificio overlooked Paitilla Airport a major invasion staging point. The PNP had used my roof for an AA / M-G battery. My Ex an Attorney and her family still reside there! During the invasion her Father "Norman" owned Gas Stations... There is a famous foto of him protecting one from looters with an old .38 revolver. He gave gas to all the US Units... free on a handshake that the US would repay him later. Sadly they renigned and he had to sue. Re: The Canal... Yes the Chinese wasted no time... everything assosiated with the canal... all realestate commercial / residential at both ends...seized... Boom! What a mess Carter created!

Marlene I remember when my mom told us we're going to the United State of America I didn't know what to think because I was 5 years old back than my home town which is Haiti is a socialis government and they give us light and water whenever they want to, I don't want that to happen here in America unfortunately some people want to.
