President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new national monument during his Independence Day speech at Mount Rushmore on Friday night, dubbing it the National Garden of American Heroes.

Trump said he had already signed an executive order directing the garden’s construction. The monument will feature statues of great Americans from every walk of life, from music and art to industry, science, and the military, Trump said. The announcement came at the end of his South Dakota speech condemning protesters for tearing down monuments to America’s founding generation.

The White House released text of Trump’s executive order on Friday evening. The order established the Task Force for Building and Rebuilding Monuments to American Heroes, which will be chaired by Interior Secretary David Bernhardt.

  • Excellent idea... a great way to introduce our children and new immigrants to the true history of our forefathers.

  • that will be a great move for him on the behalf of the American.

  • Not a bad list though I'm not at all sure why Lincoln (the Great Fabircator and architect of the Civil War than claimed over 750,000 lives of our own citizens) is on it.

  • I think the first statue in there should be one of President Trump. A man who has,  up to this point, saved America from the communists. I hope another 4 yr. Term will get at least two more conservative judges and more recovery for EVERYONE!

  • It is amazing how many great ideas Trump has, and these ideas cover so many different areas not just money.

  • They should make sure that there is a plaque explaining who they are and what they did so the stupid generation will finally get a History lesson

  • I think Sgt. Alvin York should be included.

    • And Pat Tillman, a professional football player who gave it up to serve -- and die for -- his country.

    • That would be an awesome choice for our military representation...
