In the name of environmentalism, many on the left have proposed switching the nation’s energy from reliable fossil fuels to new green energy sources that rely on the good fortune of clear skies and proper wind velocity to power America.
As if that weren’t enough cause to hesitate to indulge in such wishful thinking, another vulnerability has become painfully apparent as a third of the contiguous U.S. was plunged into subzero temperatures Monday due to a polar vortex weather pattern, according to CNN.
Not only have freezing temperatures created an excessive draw on the power grid as residents struggle to keep warm, but generating electricity has also become a major issue for areas that rely on sources such as solar and wind power.
In Texas, freezing temperatures and winter precipitation have caused some of the state’s wind turbines to seize up, costing 12,000 megawatts in power on an already taxed state grid, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
In addition, The Dallas Morning News reported that 2 million Texans did not have power Monday due to the stress on the state’s power supply and the necessary implementation of rolling blackouts.

I live on a lake which was built as a "cooling pond" for a 2.4GW coal-fired power plant. It's running just fine this morning! Our lights are on, the fridge & well pump are running, and we're a nice & toasty 70F.

We need to install several hundred Nuclear Powered Electric Plants... Nuclear power is the cleanest and safest form of energy in the world. We have the Uranium resources to fuel our energy needs for a thousand years... there is no need to pay what we are for energy.. the Big Energy Companies are rigging the game... fixing the prices for our energy and keeping Nuclear Power under raps as they don't have a majority interest in uranium production.
It is time to demand Nuclear Power and to shut down big oil and energy... they are raping America and blaming the environmentalist. The people must wake up to the lies and the manipulation of their energy reserves. Tell Big Oil it is over... no more fixed markets... jail them for anti-trust violations and price-fixing.
Yep, I've always hoped that Duke Energy would put a new-era nuke plant here when they de-commission the coal plant. Wouldn't bother me one bit!
Ron, I would absolutely agreeexcept to one proble. All livingh things and machines have exhaust in some fashion. What do we do with nuclear waste? Send it to space. It ruins water and earth? Do you know something thay I do not know which is very possibe.
Nuclear waste is no longer a problem... we can REPROCESS IT... as fuel for new classes of reactors. It can be used again... see:

A key, nearly unique, characteristic of nuclear energy is that used fuel may be reprocessed to recover fissile and fertile materials to provide fresh fuel for existing and future nuclear power plants. Several European countries, Russia, China, and Japan have policies to reprocess used nuclear fuel, although government policies in many other countries have not yet come round to seeing used fuel as a resource rather than a waste.
A new reprocessing system makes nuclear waste a resource for fueling reactors... the waste is recyclable again and again. Minimal by-products are produced and they can be burnt or sent into the sun.. where they can be consumed.
Nuclear Energy is SAFE, EFFICIENT, and CLEAN... the Big Oil companies don't want us using it as it is CHEAP and abundant... it would BANKRUPT EXXON, BP, Mobile, and the rest of the oil and coal operations... WE ARE BEING LIED TO ... by BIG ENERGY and our elected officials. We need to build a couple of hundred nuclear power plants ... immediately. Watch the price of oil and coal bottom out ... with Gasoline selling for less than a Dollar a Gallon... yes, it is possible but not probable as the PRICE FIXING and Anti-Trust violations go un-prosecuted.

You are absolutely correct about nuclear energy. However, it takes years to get these plants up and running. Until that time, we need fossil fuels.Wind and solar obviously are not going to do it.
I would also say we need the government to stop any stimulant packages for wind and solar. and if the Dems are really serious about the climate chnge myth; all government planes, including Air Force 1 and 2 and Marine 1 and 2 should be grounded. No more private jets for old boot leather (Kerry) and the wicked witch of the west (Pelosi).
The only reason it takes years to get a nuclear power plant operational is the RED TAPE and excessive regulatory INSPECTION processes used to get them approved and to build them. Most of those processes were deliberately created to slow down and add huge expenses to building the plants ... making them unprofitable or high-risk and expensive ventures to build. 80% of Frances's electricity comes from nuclear sources and they built them all rapidly and safely.
Once more the blacklisting of Nuclear Power is all about PRICE FIXING and Anti-Trust manipulation of the Energy Markets to SCREW the US Consumer. If 80% of our electricity was supplied by nuclear power gasoline would be under a dollar a gallon and other petroleum-based products would be much, much, cheaper... not to mention our Carbon Emissions would be cut in Half... doing nothing more than using Nuclear Power. It simply too cheap and clean for the Big Energy folks to allow and most of the environmental folks would be out of a job.
Well, let us get The Donald back in the WH and cut the red tape.
