Singing in church is now illegal in California

Gavin Newsom on Twitter: "In the absence of national leadership ...

Californians are still free to attend their house of worship. But they’re forbidden from singing or chanting.

Updated COVID-19 guidelines issued Wednesday by the state Department of Public Health require churches and other houses of worship to “discontinue singing and chanting activities.”

In previously allowing religious organizations to reopen in late May, the state merely said these institutions should “strongly consider discontinuing singing, group recitation, and other practices and performances.”

Health agencies such as the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say shouting or singing can spread the coronavirus just as easily as coughing or sneezing.

California’s health department agrees, and as Gov. Gavin Newsom begins tightening protocols during a resurgence of the pandemic, it now says singing and chanting are outright banned.

“Activities such as singing and chanting negate the risk reduction achieved through six feet of physical distancing,” the state said in its new guidelines.

  • WE WILL SING UNTO THE LORD, HALLELUJAH GLORY TO GOD!!

  • Let's face it. California is an unsuccessful and failed state. Maybe we should just kick them out of the union along with other states on the coasts plus Illinois. Who needs this liberal sum anyway?

  • Some normal Calif citizens need to check out any mosques and see if the have the same restrictions.

    • CA need to fight what is theirs.....religious freedom. Is anything worth fighting for anymore???

  • Hard to believe this would happen on our "free country."  How long it stands remains to be seen. And how in the heck did CA align this with COVID19 safty?

  • How much longer will people keep taking it before it all explodes?

  • Any excuse or regulation so as to thwart people from practicing their religious expression. Something in the Constitution prohibits this, yes? Oh year, in the 1st amendment of the US Constitution.
