Liberal New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow claimed over the weekend that the U.S. was "edging closer" to another civil war.
In a Saturday op-ed, Blow argued that the ongoing debate over Texas' recently passed abortion law, and the invoking of former Vice President John C. Calhoun by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, reminded him of the debate over states' rights and slavery, both of which Calhoun was a proponent, in the decades leading up to the American Civil War.
A key component of women’s rights and body autonomy is being snatched away as we watch," Blow wrote, referencing the Texas law restricting abortions remaining in place while abortion providers were allowed in a Friday decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to continue challenging it.
Blow specifically pointed to Sotomayor's dissent against the law, which read, "This is a brazen challenge to our federal structure. It echoes the philosophy of John C. Calhoun, a virulent defender of the slaveholding South who insisted that States had the right to ‘veto’ or ‘nullif[y]’ any federal law with which they disagreed."
Blow wrote that he found Sotomayor's invocation of Calhoun "striking," and claimed that there were "too many uneasy parallels" between the run-up to the Civil War in the 1800's and the debate over Texas' ability to restrict abortions today.
"I see this country on the verge of another civil war, as the Calhounian impulse is reborn," Blow wrote.

Revolutionary War would be the more appropriate comparison. Most of us remember only the First Part of Our Declaration of Independence. When the Second half, the "Charges against the Crown and Parliament" are included, it becomes readily clear and understandable that as a "Result of Our Voice being removed from all Government Decisions related to Our Futures, Well Beings and Freedom, We have No Choice but to replace the Current Government with One Representative of The People." The Document is the Declaration and The Charges. The "Civil War" was one group of peoples denying another group of peoples their "Bill of Rights" under the Constitution.

Blow better hope and pray that a civil war does not occur. American against american is something we do not need to see. Blacks are 13% of the population and a civil war would most likely eliminate the race along with the socialists, and lefties that support them. So, I hope there is no civil war.

I cannot quite seem to pinpoint the exact date when "Execution of a Murderer" was determined to be Cruel and Unusual Punishment, and "Abortion" became Normal Personal Choice. I do remember a time when these were reversed.

If there is a Civil War, patriotic Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and all the other ethnic groups that make up the Conservative movement and who are armed to the teeth (much to the dismay of their leftist would-be masters), will be willing to give their blood and their lives in the fight to free this country from the creeping tyranny coming out of leftist enclaves like New York, LA, Chicago and Washington DC!
