A group of leftist anti-Trump teens, who attempted to use Chinese social media platform TikTok to cause turnout to plummet for a Republican rally in Staten Island, ended up accidentally donating to the GOP instead.
Braved by a similar stunt at the Trump rally in Tulsa in the summer, the teens thought they could pull it off again, but they were wrong.
This time, Republican officials were savvy enough to spin the attempted sabotage in their favor and it ended with tens of thousands in donations going to the GOP from the TikToker's own pockets.
The New York Post reported:
“On Sept. 19, out-of-staters using fake, frequently lewd names began signing up online for the ‘TRiUMPh Rally,’ a free get-out-the-vote event."
Staten Island GOP chairman Brendan Lantry said they "had about 1,500 RSVPs from Staten Islanders."
“Then all of a sudden, we started seeing the numbers tick up to 10,000, 15,000, 75,000. We knew something was not right,” Lantry added.
Lantry’s wife Jessica began looking for where the RSVPs were originating from before tracking down a TikTok video with over half-a-million views from a 19-year-old Brooklynite known as Felisrae.
Felisrae was urging followers to sign up for the event, but not attend.
The vent holders added a non-refundable $5 fee to reserve tickets in an attempt to discourage the Trump-hating TikTok frauds.
“But they kept coming. From Colorado and California and Chicago and Houston, all over the country,” Lantry said.
“They hate this president so much that they’re willing to donate to the Republican Party to troll him.”
The anti-Trump teen ended up donating $15,785 via the reservation fee, according to the Post.
The outlet also noted that “[no] seats were provided at the open-air rally, and the event drew 2,500 locals, who filmed a get-well message for Trump as he recuperated from his bout with COVID-19.”
