The head of Atlanta’s police union confirmed Wednesday that officers from the Atlanta Police Department in Zones 3 and 6 walked off the job Wednesday afternoon.

Vince Champion, southeast regional director of the International Brotherhood of Police officers, said that police officers had stopped answering calls midshift, in response to charges against Officer Garrett Rolfe who is accused of murdering Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta.

“The union, we would never advocate this. We wouldn’t advocate a blue flu,” Champion said. “We don’t know the numbers. Apparently we’re learning that command staff are asking outlying counties for support and aren’t getting it.”

Decaturish has calls out to public affairs officers in Gwinnett, DeKalb and Cobb counties for confirmation. A message to the spokesperson for Atlanta Police was not immediately returned.

Zones 3 and 6 cover south Atlanta, where Rolfe killed Rayshard Brooks after a June 12 DUI arrest turned into an altercation. Rolfe fired three bullets at Brooks as he fled with a taser in hand. Video of the shooting suggests Brooks pointed the taser at officers as he fled.

A protest the next day descended into vandalism and the arson of the Wendy’s restaurant where the shooting occurred. Police and state fire officials have offered $30,000 in reward money for tips leading to the arrest and prosecution of the arsonists.

Champion accused Paul Howard, Fulton county’s district attorney, of lying about what is happening in a press conference earlier today when Howard suggested that officer Devin Brosnan had turned state’s evidence and is testifying.

  • The good news is that the police has legal temporary immunity and it's hard to really prosecute them. We need a strong police that enforces the law. Doing that they obviously follow the law and should never be prosecuted.

  • Has anybody considered the possibility that the DA overcharged him with the intent of causing chaos when he is acquitted? Look at what happened after the Rodney King officer's were acquitted? Look at the situation, a drunk driver resists arrest and becomes a "victim".

    • It is very disturbing that we must consider such conduct by our DA's and in general the ENTIRE LEGAL PROFESSION.... from the supreme court justices to the local magistrates and DA's... the legal system in the US is quite capable of orchestrating such an event... for the purposes of destabilizing our government.   That is why Pres. Trump should declare MARTIAL LAW... suspending the courts and civil judicial system while he cleans out the corruption in government.

  • The Dumb A55 that laid the murder charge is the one that should be in jail.  What has happened?...... george soros backed by the NWO who got Ohomo usurped into the Whitehouse emboldened the uncivilized members of the blacks to reinstitute Rodney King style racism and racial division.  Now the lame stream media and socialist demonicrats are doing all they can to fan the fires.  We really need PRESIDENT Trump in control of our military now because they might be needed.  I would LOVE to see the traitors and criminals behind all of this blown away!

  • At some point the NORMAL American citizens have to come out in masses to let these reprobates know who is in charge. Perhaps we should start withholding our TAX dollars since they are not using it for the benefit of the people but using it for the thugs,

  • BLM a.k.a.. Communist Revolutionists incognito, inend to make the whole Police force quit if we don't defund them. No one is seeing this? If so.we're finished1

    • We should come to the defence of the police (on TV, on social media platforms, in the press). George Floyd was a different case, OK, I get it. But in general, the police faces real immediate danger in some areas, communities. Some guys drink, smoke, they react super violently. Police officers are just defending themselves under threat. No wonder why the arrest of Brooks looks completely out of control. We don't know what we would do in a similar situation (in the shoes of a policeman). I don't see how the police officer involved can be accused of intentional murder when he was responding to a 911 call and a guy threatening to use the TAZ (stolen from the police). That's a big joke. Bias DA.

Something must happen here, let's protest too! Let's denounce the lies and support law enforcement agencies!

I was reading that Black Lives Matter leveraged several millions in donations following the death of George Floyd and the protests. As far as I'm concerned violent protesters shouldn't get any money, and to do what? Recruiting rioters through Craigslist? I'm completely disgusted by what I see.

  • BLM a.k.a. C

  • Rayshard Brooks was resisting arrest, he took a weapon from the cop and could have hurt him and other people with it.

I can't blame Rolfe's colleagues for giving up. We can't compare this case to the Floyd's case

    • I agree..if he had TAZ'd the policeman he could have taken his gun also...am glad fellow police are not coming to the defense of the "left" and "filling in"
