It was also Roosevelt's 1933 (EO 6102) that required all gold held by the Public to be surrendered, at a government fixed rate well below-par of $20.67 per once. Thus, devaluing all the Gold Certificates/Currency in circulation by nearly 60%. The very next year Congress passed the Gold Reserve ACT of 1934, raising the exchange rate for Gold Certificates by more than 2/3rds from $20.67 and once, to $35 dollars a once, where it remained until 1971.
Roosevelt's EO sucked over 60% of the value of the Gold Certificates/dollars in circulation, by demanding the gold supporting the dollar be surrendered well below-par value, and once the government-owned/held almost all the gold in circulation they inflated the rate of gold exchange rate for the dollar... Ron, I was born in 1950 so fdr was before my time and I don't know much about his "new deal" except that it was a push for bigger government to the detriment of We the People. I know much more about the slimeball lbj.

LBJ is the modern version of FDR... the New deal versus the War on Poverty and the Great Society social welfare programs of LBJ all have their roots in many of the FDR programs of the depression years. By the way, FDR's programs exacerbated the depression it was the war ... WW-2 that lead America out of the depression and the aftermath... of rebuilding the world American manufacturing leading the way... oops... where is that manufacturing today? China?
