Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, said on Wednesday, "It's outrageous" the way Gen. Michael Flynn was treated by the FBI.

Grassley spoke on the day the Justice Department dropped the criminal case against Flynn, who was President Trump's first National Security Adviser.

Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador, but recently disclosed evidence shows the FBI went to Flynn's office four days after Trump's inauguration, hoping to trap Flynn in a lie. This happened after the FBI said it was prepared to close its counterintelligence case against Flynn because it had found no wrongdoing.

"First of all, he was entrapped," Grassley told Fox News's Brett Baier Thursday evening. "Entrapment is unconstitutional. It's a violation of your due process.

"Secondly, this thing would not be exposed if it hadn't been for (Attorney General William) Barr taking the bull by the horns and knowing something was wrong and going in and knowing where things were wrong, how to straighten it out.

"We haven't heard the end of Bill Barr's good work, because everything that's going on with the Durham investigation is another example of still other shoes to drop."

Baier asked Grassley if he thinks there are more "shoes to drop...that will shock Americans?"

"Not in regard to Flynn's part of it," Grassley said, "but in regard to Russiagate and in regard to FBI influence and malpractice and also in regard to a lot of FISA things, yes, I think there's more shoes to drop and I think there will be prosecutions."

The Justice Department's request to drop Flynn's case must be approved by a federal court in Washington.

  • Col., I would state that any War among Fellow Americans that killed more Americans than all of our other Wars added together is indeed of a "Moral Disgrace", especially when a simple understanding/compromise could have been reached without undue emotional attachment to the issues. The War was not paid for in "Blood", it was paid for in ignorance and gullibility. Refusal to understand the difference in Ideologies between peoples throughout our Histories has been responsible for the destruction of entire Ways of Life, and Civilizations, of Learning and Science and Art.

We won our American Revolution, Twice, with next to nothing! If both Houses of Congress had been willing, the Monies would have been found to "Purchase the Property owned by the Southerners" found distasteful to those of the North. There was a Warbecause of stubborn, ignorant, stupid, people, who believed the conflict would end in months, not Years!

    • Simple understanding/compromise... it is amazing to think that our ancestors were so ignorant that they did not attempt compromise and understanding. However, greed and pride... overruled common sense. Like today, we are heading for civil war over foolishness like debating the faults of our nation that occurred centuries ago. We have problems right now that need reason and moral compromise... HOW"S THAT WORKING OUT.

It should be noted that reason and compromise have failed in nearly every culture and empire man has established... so, you know something we don't?  The solution to mankind's problems is contained in God's law and moral order for society ... There is no other code, ethical model, or moral standard that can lead mankind to peaceful coexistence... than God's Word and his law.

    • Why should the north purchase or reimburse slave owners for their immoral choices... in addition, the North emancipated their slaves without reimbursement based on moral necessity... What would have happened if the North paid the South for their slaves and then shipped them all... every one of them back to Africa... what then?  Who is going to work their fields, and supply their domestic labor and tradesmen? The South should have voluntarily emancipated their slaves... and employed them as share-croppers, domestics and tradesmen... they would have come out better than holding them as slaves... certainly better than enduring a civil war which took them over 100yrs to recover from.

    • Thank you for a very thought out reply. It was a moral issue despite other important factors. The Civil War was fought over slavery despite what CSA and Lost Cause adherents say.

    • what happened to the East and the West?

    • What you're describing was foretold in the Scriptures. Due to our fallen nature, the curse of war, slavery, and disease will continue until Jesus returns and rights matters. Nevertheless, we're called to try and stand for justice and mercy.

    • Exactly

    • so true and we have to understand who bring justice and mercy.

  • The flaw in your argument Col. is that the Emancipation Proclamation only freed the "Slaves in the South (The Rebel States). The Slaves in the Northern States, such as Maryland, remained Slaves! The next flaw is that Emancipation did not occur until later in the War, not "Around the Corner" as stated, so the Fair Market Price would have been "What had been established prior to Military Engagement."

Regardless, the Physical Costs alone far exceeded the total amount of all "Census Totals" of Slaves accounted for at the time, and not using the Greatly inflated figures from sources such as the DAR. Once again, refer to the documents gathered at the time of occurrence.

The Bill of Rights is explicit and succinct, and does not allow the Constitution to override it in any manner. The Bill of Rights only exists due to the fact that the States refused to Ratify the Constitution, unless they were explicitly included to "Protect the Citizens from the Government." All Ten Amendments !
