The fate of New York City statues commemorating two of the nation's Founding Fathers will be decided by the wife of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Speaking during a Friday morning press conference, de Blasio backed his decision to promote New York City first lady Chirlane McCray to a city commission focused on "racial justice and reconciliation" that will assess whether statues of Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson should be removed.

“This is exactly the kind of thing that this new commissions needs to examine,” de Blasio told reporters. “I think it is the time to evaluate the entire look and feel of this city, and a commission that’s focused on justice and reconciliation can really think about a bigger approach. I’m going to charge them with that task.”

McCray, who will be charged with deciding the fate of a Washington statue in New York's City Hall, has already overseen a task force to consider building new statues throughout the city. In 2017, McCray drew heated criticism for her commission's decision to forego building a statue for Italian American nun Mother Cabrini.

As rioters and looters raid the streets of New York City, now is the time for "handcuffs" and not empty rhetoric, retired New York Police Department (NYPD) Detective Pat Brosnan asserted Tuesday.

In an interview on "America's Newsroom" with host Ed Henry, Brosnan -- the founder of Brosnan Risk Consultants, an NYPD supplier -- said he almost wanted to "throw up" watching New York City stores broken into and fires being lit.

"I’ve got to be honest. I can't take it. It’s so, so bad," he remarked.

"But, listen," urged Brosnan "America [is] burning. The time now is for handcuffs, not rhetoric."

According to Brosnan, empty rhetoric is absolutely useless in a time when curfews are ignored.

"Let's talk about the power of words. We are talking about community discussions with the mayor and discussions that somehow or other will sway the wilding criminal mobs that are lighting America on fire. The reality is, it’s past that. That is behind us now," he told Henry.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday tried to blame President Trump and the federal government for the ongoing fiscal crisis in New York City while still refusing to reopen the city and let people get back to work.

The pair refuse to reopen small businesses in New York City despite the number of coronavirus deaths and hospitalizations hitting all-time lows this week.

On Tuesday, 55 people were hospitalized in the city. There were 74 deaths across the entire state. But the city remains closed until further notice with few details being released about how and when it will reopen.

Commercial landlords are not collecting rent from retail tenants which is triggering an 'alarming' drop in tax revenue that could deplete essential public services and residential tenants are breaking their leases to flee the Big Apple.

A chorus of small businesses have spoken out against de Blasio and Cuomo for holding them 'prisoner' by not allowing them to do business while Costco, Walmart and Home Depot, for example, have been able to throughout the pandemic. They plan to start reopening next week and say they are consulting a lawyer about their legal rights.

On Wednesday, de Blasio - who is still collecting more than $9,000 a month in rent from three properties in Park Slope on top of his $258,000 mayor's salary - said he would 'aggressively' shut them down. He blamed the city's 'fiscal crisis' on Trump and complained that there was 'literally no timeline' on when he might see some financial help from the government.

As New York City quickly became the global COVID-19 epicenter, city officials ordered that many sites across the city be converted into field hospitals. At the time, experts said the growing pandemic would easily overwhelm the city's hospital system.

One such site transformed into a hospital was the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, which was designed to treat nearly 700 patients.

According to The City, the field hospital was "slated to open in mid-April but wasn't ready for service until May 4." But by the time construction was completed, New York's coronavirus-related hospital population had dropped significantly, meaning the city no longer needed the field hospital.

And now, the site is being demolished.

What's worse, city officials reportedly expect the Federal Emergency Management Agency — via the taxpayer — to pick up the $20.8 million tab for constructing and tearing down the temporary site.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has threatened to lay off or furlough front-line workers because of the budget crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic — but in the last several weeks, he’s made nearly $2 million in hirings or promotions of at least 10 people, including several communications jobs and a records director position.

“The unfettered spending and deception from the de Blasio administration never stops, even during a financial crisis,” fumed Councilman Robert Holden (D-Queens).

“While Office of Management and Budget Director Melanie Hartzog claims that the city is in a hiring freeze, we see nothing but high-paying hirings and promotions as the mayor talks about potentially laying off or furloughing essential workers. This is a disgrace,” he said.

Hartzog clarified during a City Council budget hearing last week that there is an exception for hirings related to COVID-19, health or safety.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, along with his wife Chirlane McCray, traveled to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park over the weekend, where they took a stroll and were heckled by locals in the area.

While de Blasio and his wife wore protective face coverings, one local who filmed the couple walking through the park on Saturday considered their outing to be “nonessential travel.”

Darren Goldner, the local who filmed the video, scolded de Blasio and his wife for having four of their SUV security entourage vehicles to escort them to the park eleven miles away from their residence.

“Seriously, you guys have a park. You live in a park,” Goldner said as he filmed the couple. “You don’t need to non-essentially travel to Brooklyn. Come on you won’t even open roads for people of all backgrounds. I’m not going to give it a break. This is selfish behavior.”

New York City will close at least 40 miles of streets to vehicular traffic “over the next month,” Mayor de Blasio said Monday, with an ultimate goal of 100 miles closed during the duration of the coronavirus outbreak.

The goal is to provide space for New Yorkers to exercise and avoid dense crowds in parks, he said during a press conference.
The city will focus on streets “in and around our parks,” de Blasio said, eyeing the “hardest-hit communities.”

The city will also expand some sidewalks, he added.

“It is very unfortunate that people are concerned about the coronavirus because it is not anything that is taking place in the state of New York. There is nothing whatsoever preventing you from coming to this wonderful neighborhood.” Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer from Chinatown, February 14, 2020

RAIR Foundation USA has uncovered a little-seen video of powerful New York City politician Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer downplaying the Wuhan coronavirus. In the video, she pushes citizens to come to Chinatown on February 14, 2020, weeks after President Trump’s travel ban from China.

With nearly half of all Chinese coronavirus deaths in America so far and over double of the deaths per million citizens, it is quite reasonable to question why New York City has been so disproportionately impacted. Obviously, New York City is a heavily-populated urban center, but even so, Los Angeles, San Francisco-Oakland and San Jose have more citizens per square mile.

President Donald Trump said the US Navy hospital ship Comfort will leave New York City as soon as possible after Gov. Andrew Cuomo said it was no longer needed in the city's fight against the coronavirus.

The USNS Comfort was deployed to New York City on March 30 to help the city's hospitals as they struggled with a tidal wave of coronavirus patients.

The Comfort's initial mission was to aid these hospitals by taking all non-coronavirus patients. But it turned out there weren't many non-coronavirus patients to take, prompting criticism when it became known that only 20 patients were received on the 1,000-bed ship in its first day.

Following the outrage, Cuomo asked the president to sign off on the ship taking coronavirus patients, to which Trump agreed.

But to take coronavirus patients, the ship had to be reconfigured into a 500-bed hospital to avoid spreading the virus. But the Comfort never came close to reaching capacity, thanks in part to the opening of a makeshift hospital at the Javits convention center.

China's infamous wet markets have recently drawn the attention of the world after it was revealed that the coronavirus outbreak originated from one such wild animal market in the city of Wuhan that sold meat, fish as well as exotic animals, usually in unsanitary conditions, making them a hotbed for deadly bacteria and viruses like COVID-19.

However, China isn't alone as a shocking new report has revealed that New York City also has dozens of similar wet markets all over the city.

New York City's wet markets

An investigative report by animal rights organization, PETA, has revealed that New York City is riddled with more than 80 wet markets that sell and slaughter a variety of species including goats, sheep, chickens, guinea hens, rabbits, pigeons, Muscovy ducks, and quail, for human consumption
