National World War II Memorial is vandalized - U.S. - Stripes

The morning after peaceful protests in Washington, D.C., turned violent, images show several historic landmarks have been defaced or fallen victim to vandalism.

"Y'all not tired yet," was spray-painted outside the Lincoln Memorial, while "Do black vets count?" was seen written on the World War II Memorial.

In the wake of last night's demonstrations, there are numerous instances of vandalism to sites around the National Mall," the National Parks Service said in a tweet Sunday. "For generations the Mall has been our nation’s premier civic gathering space for non-violent demonstrations, and we ask individuals to carry on that tradition."

Washington, D.C., reported massive looting and destruction of property in Georgetown and City Center overnight Saturday. Businesses in the district have been urged by government officials to stay shut down overnight Sunday as more demonstrations are expected.
