According to minutes from the session, the keynote speaker, Bettina Love, opened by saying that America has "oppressed [people of color] for 400 years" and that teachers must "consciously tear down a system that oppresses people" and "build a new world."
The organization hosting the conference—CAST—has received more than $16 million in taxpayer funding under the Trump Administration and this conference on "abolition" was attended by Department of Education staff.
The speaker argued that the United States has a "racial contract" that "says it's okay for white people to kill blacks with immunity" and that President Trump deliberately allowed the coronavirus to kill people of color.
Dr. Love claims that "reform is not enough" and that public school teachers must push for "the abolition of prisons," overthrowing the capitalist wage labor system, "radically changing" the school system, and "tearing down structures" that impede "anti-racist education."
The speaker then demands that "white people need to get out of white emotionality" and must be "willing to give up" their "wealth." She claims that existing civil rights laws are "all racist" and that white teachers must be "co-conspirators" in the revolution.
American taxpayers are now funding revolutionaries who want to overthrow the country. The speaker explicitly rejects "reform" and argues that we must "start over" to "build a new world." The phrase "abolition" is shorthand for "abolishing the United States."
I call on @usedgov and @BetsyDeVosED to immediately launch an investigation into Department of Education grants that fund critical race theory and explicit anti-Americanism. These divisive trainings do not improve education for children and should not be funded by taxpayers.
*To clarify the opening tweet: as I explain later in the thread, I have coined the phrase "abolishing the United States" as a summary of the worldview expressed in the session and, thus, put it in quotations. (If Twitter had an edit button, I would clarify this above, too.)

Time to get rid of the Department of Education and send it back to the state. Parents should be more aware of what they are teaching their children, we don't get rid of the past but learn from it this is not a perfect nation but we are much better then other nations we are not perfect there was only one perfect person and he die on a cross
The department of education was implemented by Jimmy Carter. The department of education exercises power not granted by or found in the constitution. Our standing among nations education-wise was far higher before the Department of education was formed. Teachers are mostly unconscious of being William Ayers Marxist disciples. William Ayers of the 1970s weather underground infamy escaped justice and obtained an education Ph.D. He then finagled his way on to the committee that sets the curriculum for all the nations teaching colleges. Those colleges need to throw out everything Ayers had put in their curriculum. Control of local schools needs to be returned to the local school boards and yes I know some students will suffer almost as bad as they currently do. The Department of education needs to go away and most of its employees need to be banned from teaching anywhere.
Not the police but the DOE is what needs to be de funded. And that should be done immediately. They have been brain washing American kids for too long. They need to be shut down.
As they use our tax dollars to fund the meeting of many, many, deluded, and brainwashed, morons who aren't fit to lick the boots or critical thinking, commonsensical Americans, more less teach our children. I would like to see the public stocks brought back and idiots like this put on display for all to see and ridicule.
The 20 and 30 year olds have been indoctrinated in the communist way which is why we now have riots, burning and looting!! This age group must be rounded up , put in straight jackets tied to a bed in a small blue room with annointed gospel music by the Family Worship Center singers blaring and annointed preaching by Donnie and Gabriel Swaggart to re-program these individuals!!
