Police in New York have launched an investigation after a flagpole at a memorial honoring five firefighters who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks was cut down by vandals.
The damage at the patriotic display in Washingtonville, north of New York City, was discovered early Wednesday, according to the Times-Herald Record.
Washingtonville Police Chief Brian Zaccaro told the newspaper that those behind the vandalism used a tool to sever the flagpole about five feet from its base and then scrawled a message on the part left standing.
Police would not disclose the nature of the message, but did reveal that an eagle figure attached to the flagpole was found next to a toppled sign at the St. Mary's Parish Center about a half-mile away.

We need to find a US-owned Island in the deep Pacific and turn it into a Devils Island type prison ... where the inmates are marooned on the island and left to fend for themselves... US Coast Guard and surgically removable GPS implants being the security. A no-entry zone 100 miles around the Island covering both the sea and air. Provide the prisoners basic tools, livestock, and seed to grow their own food. Conduct a monthly muster and physical head-count. Other than that let them establish their own rules for maintaining order on the Island.
More prisons are not the answer!! Only execution will stop the lawlessness!!
You should not execute individuals for cutting down flag poles... or other similar infractions of the law. Strong prison sentences will do with the costs of keeping the inmates reduced through a system of Devil Island complexes.
