“I recently saw a headline that said, ‘Trump’s Popularity Leaves Political Analysts Perplexed.’
Seriously? Where are those analysts working, Mars? What don’t they get about it? I’m thinking these guys need a little education about what makes politicians super-popular with Americans in 2011.
Basically it boils down to two things: A politician in America becomes popular by simply speaking out on issues other politicians are afraid of and not backing down when opposition tries to force them to.
It’s the reason people have taken so strongly to men like Col. Allen West and Herman Cain. While everyone else has been completely namby-pamby and politically correct about Islam, both these men have addressed it in ways Americans want and need to hear. Despite the president’s preferences for all-things-Muslim, West videos go viral because he flat-out says Islam IS a threat. Period. West and Cain both have stated this clearly and succinctly, which is why they have such a huge following.
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is popular because she bravely stood up for her state in trying to provide more border security, despite strong opposition from the Obama administration. She could have cowered and disappeared after Obama and his gang started vilifying her regarding SB-1070; instead she kept on fighting and kept the public involved, telling them straight-out that the president had turned his back on Arizona. They not only turned their back on her, they completely ganged up on her (with the help of scary Mexico) by suing her state. Yet she still never backed down—and THAT is why she’s so popular.
Gov. Chris Christie became popular because of the Town Hall video in which he did a face-off with a teacher about unions. He said, ‘We can’t afford this anymore!’ and he didn’t back down (and still hasn’t). So Christie’s fiscal responsibility and common-sense approach to unions is the reason people like him.
Louisiana’s Gov. Bobby Jindal also stood up to the Obama administration during the BP oil spill. Jindal bravely told the American public, ‘The president isn’t doing enough!’ while he worked nonstop in the trenches with his people. That is why he’s popular.
Rep. Michelle Bachmann is popular because of her tireless work with the Tea Party and because she talks to every media source available about fiscal responsibility and how to cut our out-of-control budget. I first became aware of Bachmann about a year ago when I saw her in a viral YouTube video in which she was talking about people who were losing their car dealerships if they didn’t support nationalized GM. People fell in love with her when she called this type of bullying ‘Gangster Government’.
Sarah Palin is popular among Conservatives because she loves God, her family and her country—in that order–and isn’t afraid to say so. Despite constant criticism and unrelenting, brutal (and mostly very personal) scrutiny from the left, Palin has stayed true to who she is and won’t back down on the issues.
Rep. Paul Ryan is popular because instead of taking a scalpel to the budget, he’s trying to use a much-needed chainsaw to cut away the dead wood. Same with Rep. Marco Rubio and other freshmen politicians who realize the only way to make a real name for themselves politically is to stay true to their campaign promises and to remember that the American Conservative public is watching their every move with eagle-eyes. Unlike the old-school GOP, these new Congressmen seem to have a greater understanding that America is fed up with politics-as-usual. We’ve almost lost our country because of apathy and indifference, and they know we aren’t going to take it anymore.
This brings me to the pièce de résistance and the most recent cause for political strategists everywhere to scratch their heads until they’re almost bleeding: Donald Trump.
To be honest, I’ve never been crazy about The Donald. The first time I ever heard about him was in the 90’s when he very publicly dumped (and trashed) his ex-wife Ivana, followed by the young chippy he left her for, Marla Maples. Lots of juicy drama ensued, including his huge bankruptcy, his purchase of the cheesy Miss Universe Pageant and then in 2004 he became a TV star with his show, ‘The Apprentice’. Soap opera material, for sure. Donald was basically a joke, with his insane-crazy hair (what the heck IS that mess on his head??) and his strange orangey makeup with too-white concealor under his eyes…
But then, crazy-like-a-fox Trump started speaking out for America. He asked the ONE QUESTION that has caused regular people to be called ‘Birthers.’ Just when people were giving up on the issue—realizing it would take someone very rich and powerful to uncover the truth about the birth certificate issue—there he was, one of the richest and most powerful men in the universe. Trump, completely alone, stood up and asked the question we ALL want to know: “Where’s the birth certificate?”
He could have stopped there, but he also started talking—as a successful businessman– about fiscal responsibility and working to break our dependency with China. He spoke about the crazy moratoriums on oil drilling in America and he said that we WOULD drill here if he were President.
THESE are the reasons, political analysts from Mars, why Donald Trump and other outspoken politicians are so popular with the American public. I know there are other issues attached to Trump; his political contributions, some shady dealings with shady people. But if this man, with his crazy hair and New York-y cadence, can unravel the mystery of the elusive birth certificate and prove once and for all who Barack Hussein Obama really is, he WILL stand a good chance of winning the presidency in 2012 because that’s how we roll in America. We tend to LIKE people who respect us and our wishes; we LIKE people who defend the greatness of our country and are willing to FIGHT to save her.Not many of the people the ‘analysts’ are trying to force on us are worthy of that loyalty and respect, and yes, it IS that simple.”
