{washingtonexaminer.com} ~ A House-Senate conference committee is beginning work on a package of border security policies that, it is hoped, can win the support of both Democrats and Republicans... The final product is certain to include several measures that already have full, bipartisan approval: more immigration judges, more technology to detect illegal drugs at ports of entry, more humanitarian aid for migrants in custody, etc. The hang-up, of course, will be a border barrier. President Trump insists on money — his demand is $5.7 billion — that would build new steel-slat barriers along about 230 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border. About 80 miles of that would replace current, dilapidated, inadequate fencing, while 150 or so miles would cover currently unfenced areas. On the other side are Democrats led by House Speaker Nancy Pulosi, who has called a border wall "an immorality between nations" and denies evidence that a barrier would increase border security by decreasing the number of illegal crossings into the United States. Pulosi won the 35-day partial government shutdown by sticking to her position. The new negotiations will test whether she and other Democratic barrier deniers can prevail again. The need for new and improved barriers along some parts of the border is in the news almost daily. Take, for example, the events of Jan. 24 near Lukeville, Ariz., in the Tucson Sector of the border. Even though there is a six-lane crossing at Lukeville, migrants seek to enter the United States illegally in nearby areas that have ineffective fencing. Thus, on the 24th, Border Patrol agents found a large group — 242 people, most from Central America — who illegally crossed the border west of Lukeville...

{jpost.com} ~ Paris will repatriate around 130 men detained in Syria who are suspected of ISIS ties, according to a report published by BFM TV in France... The men are currently being held by the Syrian Democratic Forces, the partner of the US-led anti-ISIS Coalition. As the US contemplates withdrawing from Syria there were concerns about the detainees future and the threats they pose. “All those who will return to France will be judged in court. If the judge estimates that it will be necessary to incarcerate them, and that will be the usual case, they will be put in jail," French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner told the station on Tuesday. Castaner, the Minister of the Interior since October of last year, faces a difficult choice because many European countries and members of the Coalition have refrained from repatriating up to 600 of an estimated 3,200 ISIS members and their families held in Syria. Hundreds of these detainees are from European countries, some of the 5,000 ISIS members from Europe who went to Syria and Iraq and committed genocide against the area's population, including Yazidis in Iraq in August 2014.  Many of the foreign ISIS members are suspected of the most brutal crimes of the organization, including the famous “Beatles” cell of ISIS members from the UK who executed Steven Sotloff and James Foley. Two alleged members of the group from the UK were captured by the SDF and are held in Syria. The UK moved to strip them of citizenship in 2018. Last week a woman from Trinidad was reunited with her sons who had been kidnapped by the ISIS-member father and taken to Syria. The sons were found by the SDF after having been abandoned, and were taken to Camp Roj in Syria where ISIS families, including many foreign wives, live...

English, science, and social studies must be taught,” Judicial Watch said.  “Schools must provide samples of teaching schedules, textbooks, and lesson plans. Non-compliant schools risk withdrawal of funding for things like textbooks and transportation, and students ultimately could be forced to go to another school. Students that resist transfer risk being declared ‘truant’ and legal steps to challenge parental competency could follow. This month alone, the PA security forces have arrested nine Palestinian journalists, according to the Palestinian Committee for Supporting Journalists. One of the journalists, Yousef al-Faqeeh, 33, a reporter for the London-based Quds Press News Agency, was taken into custody on January 16. On January 27, a PA court ordered al-Faqeeh remanded into custody for 14 days. His family said that they still do not know why he was arrested. Al-Faqeeh's wife, Suhad, said that PA security officers raided their house; when Yousef asked whether they had a search warrant, they proceeded to arrest him. "They took him to an unknown destination and did not provide a reason for his arrest," she said. "They also confiscated his computer and mobile phone." The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the arrest of al-Faqeeh and called on the PA to release him immediately...

by Culture Beat:  Planned Parenthood recently released its annual report for last year. Unsurprisingly, in reviewing the report it’s apparent that abortion is still the organization’s number one business, though PP is still attempting to distort this reality.

The abortion mill claims that the procedure amounts to only 3% of its business. But that’s a cleverly disguised farce. Alexandra DeSanctis of National Review explains, “Planned Parenthood arrives at this statistic by dividing the abortion procedures for the year (332,757) by the number of ‘services’ the group provided (9.7 million). The report defines a ‘service’ as a ‘discrete clinical interaction,’ such as the administration of an STI test.”

DeSanctis continues, “Consider what this means in practice. If a woman visits a Planned Parenthood facility to obtain an abortion, and, while she’s there, is also given a pregnancy test, an STI test, a cancer screening, and contraception, the abortion procedure would be just 20 percent of the ‘services’ she received. This is why the group takes pains to list its annual ‘services,’ which is much higher than the number of patients Planned Parenthood saw last year (2.4 million). Using this deceptive formula, the report manipulates the data to make it appear as if abortion is a tiny fraction of its work, though a much higher percentage of actual patients who visit Planned Parenthood clinics are there, first and foremost, to obtain an abortion.”

This deceptive practice is nothing new for PP. Back in 2015, PP CEO Cecile Richards admitted to Congress that none of PP’s clinics had mammogram machines. This was a significant acknowledgement as a prevalent myth among Planned Parenthood’s fanbase is that the organization provides mammogram services for women. It’s one of many lies that weave the fabric of an evil institution.  ~The Patriot Post
