  Secrecy Surrounds Dennis Hastert's Indictment
The Department of Justice unveiled an indictment against former House Speaker Dennis Hastert Thursday, accusing him of lying to the FBI and withdrawing cash in such a way as to hide the fact he was paying someone "$3.5 million in order to compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct." It's stunning enough that federal prosecutors brought charges against a politician of Hastert's caliber. But the question of the hour is why he was so willing to pay someone $3.5 million. Before entering politics, Hastert taught high school history and coached wrestling in Yorkville, Illinois. Someone in the U.S. attorney's office apparently believes paying a bribe is a greater crime than Hastert's misconduct. So they covered up the information because it's embarrassing to the former politician. He was once one of the most powerful politicians in the country and we are denied the ability to know whether this affected his leadership.More...  -The Patriot Post

Surprise! First Quarter GDP in the Tank
A month ago, the government pegged GDP growth at a tentative 0.2% for the first quarter of 2015. However, as we noted at the time, revisions knocked last year's first quarter GDP down by a staggering two percentage points — from 0.1% to -2.1% — meaning the economy actually contracted to start off 2014. That inevitably raised the question: Is a repeat in the offing? We now know the answer to that question, and it's a resounding yes. Today, Commerce Department revisions showed first quarter GDP was lower than initially reported. Instead of 0.2% growth — an already sluggish number — January-March GDP now stands at -0.7%. The Wall Street Journal reports, "The latest downgrade came after new data showed a wider trade deficit and a slower pace of restocking by firms than earlier estimates, damping demand at factories and service providers. Those developments added to an already bleak picture of weak consumer spending and a downturn in business investment." And according to Reuters, "With growth estimates so far for the second quarter around 2 percent, the economy appears poised for its worst first-half performance since 2011." A myriad of rehashed excuses are already flooding in — from winter weather woes to flawed government methods to a mere hiccup — but it's not like the economy ever gained much footing under the nObama recovery to begin with.  -The Patriot Post

Los Angeles Labor Leaders Want Minimum Wage Exemption
Oh the irony. Fourteen Los Angeles council members recently voted to incrementally raise the city's minimum wage to $15 an hour. Considering a whopping 50% of the city's workforce makes minimum wage, the new law is bound to have significant ramifications — which may explain this oddity from the Los Angeles Times: "Labor leaders, who were among the strongest supporters of the citywide minimum wage increase approved last week by the Los Angeles City Council, are advocating last-minute changes to the law that could create an exemption for companies with unionized workforces." Rusty Hocks with the Federation of Labor defended the proposed exemption by opining, "With a collective bargaining agreement, a business owner and the employees negotiate an agreement that works for them both. The agreement allows each party to prioritize what is important to them." Yet, as the Times notes, "For much of the past eight months, labor activists have argued against special considerations for business owners, such as restaurateurs, who said they would have trouble complying with the mandated pay increase." In other words, labor leaders want the flexibility to negotiate a mutually fair hourly wage — one that may very well fall below $15 — while forcing non-unionized businesses to comply with an admittedly harmful law. The Left, it seems, doesn't want to raise the minimum wage so much as coerce businesses into joining a union, which would then translate into political capital.  -The Patriot Post

The Debate Over the Death Penalty Has Just Begun
Nebraska lawmakers voted Wednesday to make that state the 19th to ban the death penalty. Republican Governor Pete Ricketts vetoed earlier in the week the bill that sought to repeal the state's death penalty statute. According to Nebraska law, it takes 30 of 49 senators in the unicameral legislature to override a gubernatorial veto. And 30 votes are exactly what death penalty opponents got. The original bill was passed last week and sent to Ricketts with 32 votes.
Ricketts stated in his veto of the original legislation, "Repealing the death penalty sends the wrong message to Nebraskans who overwhelmingly support capital punishment and look to government to strengthen public safety, not weaken it."
The governor burned phone lines and called in favors in an effort to sustain his veto, but he was ultimately unable to do so. Still, with a thin majority supporting the original ban, and the thinnest of majorities overriding Ricketts' veto, it is almost guaranteed that this issue will come up again next term. The governor vowed, "While the legislature has lost touch with the citizens of Nebraska, I will continue to stand with Nebraskans and law enforcement on this important issue."

Why Do Liberals ‘Blame the Victim’ When It Comes to Islam?
(patriotsandpolitics.com) ~ When the outspoken critic of Islamic extremism, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, visited Bill Maher on his show ‘Real Time’, the two had much to say on the subject of the liberal targeting of Hirsi Ali and the overwhelming tendency of liberals to ‘blame the victim’ when it comes to Islam... Hirsi Ali has worked tirelessly to shed light on the treatment of women in Islam and during the interview, gave a very clear definition of Sharia law and what it means for those who have been deemed guilty according to its standards: Maher and Hirsi Ali agreed that the stance liberals have taken on Islam — to “try to justify so much in a culture that’s decidedly illiberal” is the improper one. Hirsi Ali called what radical Muslims do, “an assault on liberalism.”        http://patriotsandpolitics.com/ayaan-hirsi-ali-bill-maher-blame-the-victim-alive-and-well-among-liberals-when-islam-involved/

Houthi rebels in Yemen are holding multiple Americans prisoner
(Greg Miller & Adam Goldman) ~ The rebel group that has seized power in Yemen has taken at least four U.S. citizens prisoner, according to U.S. officials who said that efforts to secure the Americans’ release have faltered... One of the prisoners had been cleared for release in recent days only to have that decision reversed by members of the Houthi rebellion that toppled the U.S.-backed government earlier this year and now controls most levers of power in Yemen. The Americans are believed to be held at a prison in Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, which has been bombed repeatedly as part of an air campaign led by Saudi Arabia aimed at dislodging the Houthis from power. The United States has provided intelligence support to that operation.        http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/houthi-rebels-in-yemen-are-holding-multiple-americans-prisoner/2015/05/29/ac349cc8-0618-11e5-8bda-c7b4e9a8f7ac_story.html

US support for Iranian-backed Shiite militias ‘should not alarm us
(Bill Roggio) ~ In an interview with CBS News, General (retired) John Allen, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition To Counter ISIL, or the Islamic State, attempted to assure Americans that they should not be concerned with the US providing military and other support for Shiite militias, many of which are backed by Iran... Allen attempts to separate the “extremist elements” from the Popular Mobilization Force (or Committee), when the distinction is practically meaningless. The problem with Allen’s comments is that these so-called “extremist elements” are indeed the largest part of the Popular Mobilization Committee. In fact, when the Iraqi press and government refer to deploying the Popular Mobilization Committee, one or more of these groups are in the lead. If one read the post above your views would be different than Gen. John Allen.         http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2015/05/us-support-for-iranian-backed-shiite-militias-should-not-alarm-us-general-allen-says.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+LongWarJournalSiteWide+%28The+Long+War+Journal+%28Site-Wide%29%29

Mosque Protesters Call Jihadists Bluff – Jihadis Back Down
(Tim Brown) ~ The protest, referred to as Freedom of Speech Rally Round II, took place at 6pm on Friday. In response to the event, Islamists took to Twitter to post threats against protesters, even posting the event organizer's, Jon Ritzheimer, home address via Twitter...  Then, Islamists loudmouthed an attack on the event. Did it stop the event? Did protesters cower in fear? Did they shrink back from cowardly Islamists? Nope. Just the opposite. They showed up in droves and stood their ground and no jihadis raised their devilish heads. But make no mistake, they wanted the organizer, and other infidels dead. They just didn't have any courage to even attempt it like the two in Garland.       http://freedomoutpost.com/2015/05/mosque-protesters-call-jihadists-bluff-jihadis-back-down/

Mark Steyn Turns Hilly Clinton Upside Down, Heels Over Head!
(politibrew.com) ~ The ever interesting and straight to the point, Mark Steyn appeared on Hannity last evening and brought his cut to the chase style with him, like a steam locomotive with a cow catcher mounted up front working overtime... The main cow caught and tossed in this case is running for president on the prog side of the political spectrum. She's a rich angry white woman whose name rhymes with distillery. Before Hannity went to Mark though, he showed some clips of Hilly deigning to answer a press question or two on camera after emerging from her self-imposed quarantine. She's like a BS extruder isn't she? I mean it just oozes from the rotting flesh and bone contrived contraption she is. "Yikes! Hey Mr. Brew. That was way harsh, sir!" I know little camper. Shhh, I'm not done yet. Mark Steyn starts by saying that Hilly Clinton is treating the American electorate as if they're dumber than a bunch of rocks, which could be a spin-off to Jeff Foxworthy's show about adults competing with fifth graders. He also said Clinton's lawyer misled congress about her use of private e-mails, then he calls ABC's George anchor "George Stuffhispantswithcash".         http://politibrew.com/politics/2462-mark-steyn-turns-hillary-clinton-upside-down-heels-over-head

 Terrorist Rockets Hit Israel
(Adam Kredo) ~ A terrorist rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed in Southern Israel near the heavily populated town of Ashkelon, the Israeli Army confirmed Tuesday afternoon... It was not clear if Hamas or another splinter faction was responsible for the attack, which comes following a relatively long period of calm between Israel and the Palestinians following an intense war last summer. Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Peter Lerner confirmed that “at least one rocket launched from Gaza struck Southern Israel” late Tuesday. No one has been reported as injured as a result of the strike.       http://freebeacon.com/national-security/terrorist-rockets-hit-israel/

Federal Judge Denies DC’s Request to Immediately Stay Gun Ruling
(Stephen Gutowski) ~ A federal judge on Thursday denied the District of Columbia’s request for an immediate administrative stay on a ruling declaring part of the city’s gun carry law unconstitutional... In a ruling issued on May 18th, Judge Frederick J. Scullin said the District’s requirement that applicants for a gun carry permit demonstrate a “good reason” to carry a gun violated the Second Amendment. The DC Attorney General’s Office filed a request on May 26 for an immediate administrative stay in order to avoid issuing permits to those denied under the “good reason” clause while they filed an appeal. Thursday's order rejects that request and schedules a July 7 hearing on whether to grant a long-term stay pending the city’s appeal of the May 18 decision. The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) praised Judge Scullin’s decision.       http://freebeacon.com/issues/federal-judge-denies-dcs-request-to-immediately-stay-gun-ruling/

U.S. Intelligence: Iran Sending More Fighters to Yemen
(Bill Gertz) ~ Iran has dispatched additional paramilitary forces to Yemen to aid pro-Tehran rebels seeking to take control of the strategic southern Arabian state, according to recent U.S. intelligence reports... The Iranian leadership earlier this month ordered militants from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force, along with Lebanese Hezbollah fighters, to Yemen, where Saudi Arabia and other Sunni Arab states are seeking to defeat an insurgency led by Houthi rebels that currently control large parts of the country. A State Department official said the Sunni Arabs in nearby states are opposing the Houthis and seeking to prevent Iran from establishing a foothold on the peninsula.        http://freebeacon.com/national-security/u-s-intelligence-iran-sending-more-fighters-to-yemen/

Agenda 21 Inspectors are at it Again, Knocking on Doors to go Inside
(rickwells.us) ~ We have two choices; demand and insist on the return of our government to our rightful hands or we can continue to accept the encroachment of authoritarianism under the UN banner... This video highlights some areas of abuse which are currently under way in this nation.      (jewishworldreview.com) - Is US President Barack nObama an anti-Semite? This question has lingered in the air since his first presidential bid in 2008. It first arose due to the anti-Semitic sermons that Jeremiah Wright, his pastor for more than 20 years, made as nObama and his family sat in the pews.
.
Throughout the six-and-a-half years of his presidency, nObama has laughed off the concerns.
.
But he has not dispelled them. And this failure has hurt him.
.
So last week, nObama went to significant lengths to answer the question about his feelings toward Israel and the Jewish people once and for all.
.
The timing of his charm offensive wasn't coincidental.
.
nObama clearly believes he has to dispel doubts about his intentions toward Jews and Israel in order to implement the central policy of his second term in office. That policy of course is his nuclear deal with Iran.
.
nObama's agreement with the mullahs is supposed to be concluded by the end of next month.
.
nObama argues that his deal will prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power. But as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained in his address before the joint houses of Congress in March, from what has already been revealed about the nuclear deal nObama seeks to conclude, far from preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear arms, the deal will provide several pathways for Iran to at a minimum become a threshold nuclear state, capable of developing nuclear weapons at the drop of a hat. If Iran cheats on the deal, it can develop nuclear weapons while the agreement is still in force. If it abides by the agreement, it can develop nuclear weapons as soon as the agreement expires.
.
Beyond his desire to conclude a nuclear deal that will empower a regime that has pledged to destroy Israel, there are nObama's reported plans for changing the way the US relates to Israel at the UN Security Council.
.
For the past half-century, the US has used its veto power at the Security Council to prevent substantive anti-Israel draft resolutions from passing. But nObama and his top advisers have hinted and media reports have provided details about his intention to end this 50-year policy.
.
nObama reportedly intends to enable the passage of a French draft resolution that would require Israel to withdraw to the indefensible 1949 armistice lines.
.
As these two policies, which bear directly on Israel's ability to defend itself and indeed, to survive, near implementation, nObama is faced with the fact that he has a credibility problem when it comes to issues related to the survival and existence of the Jewish state.
.
In a bid to address this credibility problem, last week he invested significant time and effort in building up his credibility on Jewish issues. To this end, he gave an extensive interview to Jeffrey Goldberg at The Atlantic, and he gave a speech before Adas Israel, a large, liberal Conservative synagogue in Washington, DC.
.
To a degree, nObama was successful. He did put to bed the question of whether or not he is anti-Semitic.
.
In his interview with Goldberg, nObama gave a reasonable if incomplete definition of what anti-Semitism is. nObama said that an anti-Semite is someone who refuses to recognize the 3,000-year connection between the Jews and the Land of Israel. An anti-Semite is also someone who refuses to recognize the long history of persecution that the Jewish people suffered in the Diaspora.
.
According to nObama, an anti-Semite is someone who refuses to understand that this history of persecution together with the Jews' millennial connection to the Land of Israel is what justifies the existence of Israel in the Land of Israel.
.
Moreover, according to nObama, anti-Semites refuse to understand that Israel remains in mortal danger due to the continued existence of anti-Semitic forces that seek its destruction.
.
And that isn't all. As he sees it, even if you do understand the legitimacy of Israel's existence and recognize the continued threats to its survival, you could still be an anti-Semite.
.
As nObama explained to Goldberg, there is still the problem of double standards.
.
In his words, "If you acknowledge those things, then you should be able to align yourself with Israel where its security is at stake, you should be able to align yourself with Israel when it comes to making sure that it is not held to a double standard in international fora, you should align yourself with Israel when it comes to making sure that it is not isolated."
.
To his credit, nObama provided a clear, well-argued and constructive definition of anti-Semitism.
.
But there's a bit of a problem. Right after nObama provided us with his definition of anti-Semitism, he endorsed and indeed engaged in the very anti-Semitism he had just defined.
.
As Goldberg, who is sympathetically inclined toward nObama, put it, nObama "holds Israel to a higher standard than he does other countries."
.
Both in his interview with Goldberg and in his speech at the synagogue, nObama judged Israel in accordance to what he defined as Jewish values.
.
According to nObama, Jewish values require Jews to prefer the interests of others over their own interests in order to "repair the world."
.
As nObama reads Israeli history, the state's founders didn't only seek to build a Jewish state.
.
They set out to build Utopia.
.
nObama explained, "I care deeply about preserving that Jewish democracy, because when I think about how I came to know Israel, it was based on images of... kibbutzim, and Moshe Dayan, and Golda Meir, and the sense that not only are we creating a safe Jewish homeland, but also we are remaking the world. We're repairing it. We are going to do it the right way. We are going to make sure that the lessons we've learned from our hardships and our persecutions are applied to how we govern and how we treat others. And it goes back to the values questions that we talked about earlier — those are the values that helped to nurture me and my political beliefs."
.
In his address at the synagogue, nObama made his expectations of Israel explicit. As he sees it, Israel's concerns for Palestinians should outweigh its concerns for itself. "The rights of the Jewish people... compel me to think about a Palestinian child in Ramallah that feels trapped without opportunity. That's what Jewish values teach me."
.
In other words, when nObama thinks about Israel, he cannot avoid blaming Israel for the feelings he assumes Palestinian children feel.
.
It is important to mention that in neither of his attempts to address concerns about his perceived biases regarding Jews did nObama note the behavior of the Palestinian Authority. He ignored its endemic corruption and authoritarianism.
.
He ignored the wild anti-Semitic incitement and indoctrination practiced at all levels of the Palestinian governing authority. He ignored the longstanding Palestinian refusal to accept an independent state that would peacefully coexist with the Jewish state.
.
So in the end, nObama's charm offensive did provide a clear answer to the question of whether he is anti-Semitic.
.
It bears noting that the fact that nObama failed his own test of anti-Semitism doesn't necessarily mean that he hates Jews. It is certainly possible that he likes Jews.
.
But loving Jews and being an anti-Semite are not mutually exclusive.
.
Consider anti-black bigots. Over the years, plenty of racists have professed, and perhaps even felt, love for black people.
.
They discriminated against blacks not because they hated them but because they believed that blacks were inferior to whites. It was due to their "love" for blacks that they insisted on holding them to lower standards than whites, or on segregating them from whites, lest they be embarrassed or set up for failure.
.
In other words, the fact of their "love" didn't make them less bigoted.
.
Likewise, the possibility that nObama loves Jews doesn't make his compulsion to judge Israel by a separate standard from other states and nations, including the Palestinians, any less bigoted.
.
On the other hand, both in his interview with Goldberg and in his speech at Adas Israel, nObama gave reason for concern that he harbors little goodwill for Jews or sensitivity to the unique dangers they face.
.
Goldberg raised the concern that the anti-Semitism at the heart of the world view of Iran's dictator Ali Khamenei makes him irrational. nObama didn't merely reject the notion, while denying the long history of eliminationist anti-Semitism, nObama rejected the notion that anti-Semitism can outweigh rational interests like regime survival and economic prosperity.
.
In his words, "Well the fact that you are anti-Semitic, or racist, doesn't preclude you from being interested in survival. It doesn't preclude you from being rational about the need to keep your economy afloat; it doesn't preclude you from making strategic decisions about how you stay in power; and so the fact that the supreme leader is anti-Semitic doesn't mean that this overrides all of his other considerations."
.
If that wasn't enough to show that nObama rejects the notion that anti-Semitism can and often does serve as the deranged anchor of policy- making by anti-Semites, he proceeded to equate Iran's annihilationist anti-Semitism with the country club anti-Semitism American Jews once were subjected to by their fellow Americans.
.
"If you look at the history of anti-Semitism...there were deep strains of anti-Semitism in this country," he said.
.
By rejecting the policy significance of anti-Semitism for the Iranian regime, nObama exhibited yet another anti-Semitic behavior. nObama asserted that if you fail to recognize the danger that anti-Semitism constitutes for Israel's survival, then you are an anti-Semite.
.
nObama's statements about the Palestinians also indicate that he feels little love for Jews. As has been his consistent practice since assuming office, in his charm offensive last week, nObama continued to ignore the fact that if the Palestinians were primarily interested in a state, rather than in the destruction of the Jewish state, they could have had one at almost any time since the release of the Peel Commission report in 1937 that first suggested partitioning the land west of the Jordan River between a Jewish and an Arab state. His consistent refusal to deal with this simple fact, and his insistence on blaming Israel for the Palestinians' expressed misery despite Israel's repeated offers to partition the land in exchange for peace raise serious questions about his intentions toward the Jewish state.
.
As nObama rightly understands, in the coming months, as he tries to sell his nuclear deal with Iran and his anti-Israel positions at the UN to the American public, the question of whether or not he is an anti-Semite will become more salient than ever before.
.
Now that he has answered the question, Israel needs to act in accordance with Jewish values, and choose life even at the expense of good relations with the nObama administration.
