Political correctness versus common sense
By Robert Curry
{ americanthinker.com } ~ The masters of political correctness in America are moving fast.  For example, consider the explosion of so-called gender identities." In 2016, New York City released a list of 31 genders approved by the city's Commission on Human Rights... While writing my book Reclaiming Common Sense, I consulted Google to find out how many genders there were then and was told that the answer was 63. Today, while writing this article, I re-Googled that question, and it was revealed to me that the latest number is 112. Political correctness about gender identities is metastasizing rapidly, making it difficult for ordinarily busy people to keep up. And keep up we must, just as people living in the Soviet Union had to keep up with the constantly changing Communist party line. Not long ago, everyone understood the unchanging commonsense reality that human beings are either male or female. Today in New York City, the rules have been changed — and failure to keep up can have dire consequences. New York City's special 31 genders are surrounded by special legal protections. Businesses can now be fined as much as $250,000 for refusing to address someone by his preferred pronoun. As we have seen in the news, even in cities that have not yet have caught up with New York City in terms of imposing legal penalties, failing a test of political correctness about genders can result in public shaming or the loss of a job. There is more to this story. Consider the names given the genders officially approved by New York City's Commission on Human Rights. The names include "drag king," "drag queen," "butch," "femme queen," "gender fluid," "gender blender," "gender gifted," "gender bender," and "femme person of transgender experience." Talk about rubbing our noses in it! The commissioners have gone out of their way to be outrageously transgressive. This is not accidental. They are making it abundantly clear they are ridiculing normal people and the world of common sense — the more outrageous, the better. Why would they do that? Because the purpose of political correctness is to humiliate us. Under the cover of empowering people who deviate from normal, the proponents of political correctness are actually disempowering the rest of us...  https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/10/political_correctness_versus_common_sense.html

Senate Passes Ransomware Law

{ infosecurity-magazine.com } ~ A new law has passed the US senate which will demand the federal government ramp up its support for organizations hit by ransomware... The DHS Cyber Hunt and Incident Response Teams Act would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to build dedicated teams tasked with providing advice to organizations on how best to protect their systems from attack, as well as other technical support, including incident response assistance. Although the new capabilities would be available to all public and private organizations on request — including businesses, police departments, hospitals, and banks — senate minority leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer focused on protection for New York state schools in his comments on the legislation. “The Senate passing the DHS Cyber Hunt and Incident Response Teams Act is an important step in protecting upstate New York school districts from the swaths of ransomware attacks that take hostage the personal information and vital data of our students, school employees and local governments,” he said in a statement. “It’s critical that we use all available resources to protect New York students from cyber crooks, and enhance and increase our resiliency to these attacks. I’m proud of the role I played in pushing this sorely-needed legislation through the senate and won’t stop working until it’s signed into law.” One security vendor calculated last week that ransomware attacks have disrupted operations at 49 US school districts and educational institutions in the first nine months of the year, compromising potentially 500 K-12 schools versus just 11 last year. This makes the sector the second most popular for ransomware attackers after local municipalities. These have been battered by attacks over the past few months, with one campaign in Texas hitting 23 local government entities simultaneously. A similar piece of legislation to the DHS Cyber Hunt and Incident Response Teams Act has already passed in the House of Representatives, so the two will now begin the reconciliation process.  https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/senate-passes-ransomware-law/

Top Conservative Rumored To Replace Shep
Smith At Fox News – This Would Be HUGE

{ explainlife.com } ~ Most people who watch Fox News are well-aware of the liberal hosts who use their shows to bash President Donald Trump... But things kicked up a notch last week when left-wing anchor Shepherd Smith quit from his role as Chief News Anchor and Managing Editor of Fox News’ breaking news unit. In his absence, anchors Bret Baier, Chris Wallace, Brit Hume, Shannon Bream, Martha MacCallum, Bill Hemmer, and John Roberts are among the Fox News Channel news anchors who will do a stint in the 3 p.m. hour. But rumors are swirling that one of the most famous voices in conservative media could replace Smith: Rush Limbaugh. The rumors are gaining so much traction that Limbaugh addressed them on his radio program Monday afternoon. Limbaugh said he didn’t have any desire to accept the job if it were ever offered to him, but the fact that he even acknowledged the possibility speaks volumes. So many people want him to have a show on Fox News that Limbaugh said people have been “blowing up” his email, social media pages, and calling into his program to push him into taking over Smith’s program. Below is a partial transcript of Limbaugh addressing the rumors: A lot of people have said, “Rush, why don’t you, when you finish at 3 o’clock, why don’t you just turn on the camera in there and let Fox hire to you replace Shep Smith. I mean, you could segue from your show to the 3 o’clock audience over at Fox.” You know why this is being suggested, is because Shepard Smith abruptly left the network last week in circumstances that are still a bit cloudy and mysterious. Folks, let me tell you something. I have nothing left to prove. I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I have built radio stations. I have built audiences. I don’t need to prove I can do that anymore...  https://explainlife.com/top-conservative-rumored-to-replace-shep-smith-at-fox-news-this-would-be-huge-17041/?utm_source=Explainlife.com%20Newsletter&utm_medium=email
Democracy Dies In Darkness: scumbag-Adam
Schiff Just Banned A GOP Lawmaker From
Attending Key Ukrainegate Deposition

{ thefederalist.com } ~ Rep. scumbag-Adam Schiff, D-Calif., just banned a key Republican lawmaker from the deposition of a former anti-Trump national security official believed to be at the center of ongoing Ukraine proceedings... sources tell The Federalist. Schiff tossed Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., out of the deposition. Although the U.S. House of Representatives has not approved a resolution authorizing a formal impeachment investigation, House Democrats have nonetheless insisted that they have full authority to subpoena all documents and testimony they desire, even if specific committees lack the jurisdiction to demand particular information. scumbag-Schiff, whom liar-Pelosi tapped to lead her party’s anti-Trump impeachment efforts, chairs the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), which only has jurisdiction over the federal government’s intelligence agencies and related components. According to the Congressional Research Service, formal impeachment proceedings are typically referred to the House Judiciary Committee. Gaetz sits on that committee; scumbag-Schiff does not. The House has yet to approve a resolution granting broad impeachment investigative authority to any of its committees. Several officials told The Federalist that they believe Fiona Hill, who was subpoenaed last week to share her knowledge of allegations of wrongdoing against Trump regarding a phone conversation he had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 25, is one of the unnamed sources for the anti-Trump whistleblower whose August 12 complaint fanned congressional impeachment fires. Hill was reportedly planning to testify about her knowledge of the ouster of Marie Yovanovitch, a controversial figure who was removed from her post as U.S. ambassador to Ukraine in May. scumbag-Schiff has come under fire for blatantly lying about his staff’s interactions with the anti-Trump complainant. Although he falsely denied that neither he nor his staff had any interactions with the complainant, his team had actually coordinated with the complainant before the complaint against Trump was even filed. scumbag-Schiff has also raised the ire of transparency and open government advocates by selectively leaking incomplete and out-of-context information against Trump while stubbornly refusing to release full transcripts of his depositions of federal officials subpoenaed by his committee.  scumbag-Adam Schiff should be the one to be banned, not  Matt Gaetz.  https://thefederalist.com/2019/10/14/democracy-dies-in-darkness-adam-schiff-just-banned-a-gop-lawmaker-from-attending-key-ukrainegate-deposition/?utm_source=The+Federalist+List&utm_campaign=57700518e8-RSS_The_Federalist_Daily_Updates_w_Transom&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_cfcb868ceb-57700518e8-83771801

{ npr.org } ~ A decision in the latest court case to threaten the future of the Affordable Care Act could come as soon as this month... The ruling will come from the panel of judges in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, which heard oral arguments in the Texas v. Azar lawsuit. An estimated 24 million people get their health coverage through programs created under the law, which has faced countless court challenges since it passed. In court in July, only two of the three judges — both appointed by Republican presidents — asked questions. Says Nicholas Bagley, a professor of law at the University of Michigan: “Oral argument in front of the circuit went about as badly for the defenders of the Affordable Care Act as it could have gone,” “To the extent that oral argument offers an insight into how judges are thinking about the case, I think we should be prepared for the worst — the invalidation of all or a significant part of the Affordable Care Act.” Important caveat: Regardless of this ruling, the Affordable Care Act is still the law of the land. Whatever the 5th Circuit rules, it will be a long time before anything actually changes. Still, the timing of the ruling matters, says Sabrina Corlette, director of the Center on Health Insurance Reforms at Georgetown University. “If that decision comes out before or during open enrollment, it could lead to a lot of consumer confusion about the security of their coverage and may actually discourage people from enrolling, which I think would be a bad thing,” she says. Don’t be confused. Open enrollment begins Nov. 1 and runs at least through Dec. 15, and the insurance marketplaces set up by the law aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. That’s not to underplay the stakes here. Down the line, sometime next year, if the Supreme Court ends up taking the case and ruling the ACA unconstitutional, “the chaos that would ensue is almost possible impossible to wrap your brain around,” Corlette says...

Brutal wipeout for Democrats in Louisiana,
and the press trying to keep it quiet
By Monica Showalter
{ americanthinker.com } ~ The last of the Louisiana state election numbers are in, and it's not pretty for the Democrats. Not only does its moderate Democratic governor, John Bel Edwards, face a runoff, as noted here, but the state Senate has taken a supermajority... And a whole bunch of key state offices went squarely to Republicans. Funny how the press isn't covering this much. But Guy Benson at Townhall is, and he found a Democratic Party "decimated": Among statewide office-holders, the incumbent GOP Lieutenant Governor (68 percent), Attorney General (66 percent), Treasurer (60 percent, and Agricultural Commissioner (58 percent) were all re-elected  without the need for a run-off, under the state's 'jungle primary'-style system. It also appears that the solid Republican majorities in both state legislative chambers will remain intact — with the GOP expanding its Senate advantage into super-majority territory by picking up a pair of Democratic seats: The Hill, which also had a look, but ran an anodyne headline that didn't match the content of its three-alarm fire for Democrats, noted that this Democrat loss came in a special election, and those normally don't draw large numbers of voters, but this one did. And not only did the Republicans take a Senate supermajority, but they almost snapped away the state House, too: Amid record turnout for what is usually a sleepy off-year, irregular election, Louisiana Republicans locked up enough seats in the state Senate to amount to a super majority. The party came within seven seats of winning a super majority in the state House, too, with eight runoff elections to come in November. What's more, the outlook continues to get strong for the GOP in Louisiana because the Republicans have consolidated: the GOP gubernatorial candidate third-place finisher, Ralph Abraham, endorsed the second-place finisher, Eddie Rispone. This makes the whole thing sound like a wave election, with a big warning to the Left for 2020... https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/10/brutal_wipeout_for_democrats_as_final_louisiana_numbers_roll_in.html

Request to Require -- Tolerate to Mandate

Tom McLaughlin

{ tommclaughlin.blogspot.com } ~ In its early days, what we now know as the “LGBT Community” begged society for tolerance of “alternative lifestyles.” Then it asked for acceptance. After gaining some measure of political clout, it demanded “rights.” Lately, it is imposing conformity by legislating civil penalties against people who adhere to biological facts and religious beliefs about LGBT issues. How soon before it criminalizes dissent? How soon will we discover as Cool Hand Luke did that if you don’t, “Get your mind right,” you’ll “spend a night in the box.”
th.jpeg
Last week I saw two stories alerting me that it’s just around the corner. The first was in National Review about a former 30-year Emergency Room doctor in the UK who didn’t have his mind right and was fired. His offense? He said he wouldn’t use a “preferred pronoun” when treating a hypothetical “transexual.” He’d refuse to call a man who claimed he was a woman “she.” He said — as a scientist — that it’s impossible for a man to change into a woman. “If somebody has male XY chromosomes and male genitalia,” he said, “I cannot in good conscience call them a woman.” As a Christian, he believes God created humans: “Man and woman he created them,” he said, citing Genesis, Chapter 5: Verse 2.

Dr. Mackereth
Doctors in the UK, however, work for the government and the LGBT lobby mandates conformity from all government employees. It determined that Dr. David Mackereth didn’t have his mind right and could no longer practice medicine. At fifty-five, he was out of a job. Government would force him to ignore science, deny his religious faith, and lie in order to continue practicing. “I knew it could be the end of my work as a doctor,” he said, “but I could not live with myself if I didn’t speak up. It would be dishonest — and I didn’t want to live a lie.”

The second story was in The Federalist: “Starting July 1, 2020, all Illinois public schools are legally required to teach children LGBT history and only buy textbooks that include the topic. NPR affiliate Illinois Public Radio labeled Christian and conservative opposition to this law while it was being considered as stemming from ‘hate groups.’”
lgbt-queer-history.jpg
According to government-sponsored radio in Illinois, Catholics who believe Catholic doctrine that homosexuality is intrinsically disordered belong to a “hate group.” How long before Catholics are charged with “hate crimes” and imprisoned?
liberal-intolerance1.jpg
I’ve watched the steady advance of leftist control in public education ever since my own career began in 1975. In 2000, I had to pick out a textbook for 8th graders, but all texts by the standard publishers contained a pronounced left-wing bias and they were costly. I told the principal if I could pick save him money and purchase two cheaper texts for each student: leftist A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn and conservative: A Patriot’s History of the United States by Schweikart & Allen — I could get both for far less the price of one standard text. I could then compare and contrast perspectives in each of my lessons. He said that would be fine if I were to continue teaching, but what if I retired? What was the likelihood that whoever replaced me could do that?
howard-zinn-284xfall.jpg
I had to admit it wasn’t likely and had to pick one of the standard, leftist texts: Prentice Hall’s The American Nation, the most-used text in the country at the time. I didn’t like it but figured I would offer students contrasting perspectives from other sources when the bias got too strong. As bad as The American Nation was, it seems middle of the road now compared to what is mandated in Illinois — as well as in California, Colorado, New Jersey, and Oregon where similar laws have been passed. The left controls education thoroughly now, kindergarten to graduate school, and the LGBT lobby is riding high.

Illinois teachers' guide from Human Rights Campaign
Illinois’ Evanston/Skokie schools adopted a curriculum like what will be mandatory next year across the state. The equal sign logo of the Human Rights Campaign — the nation's largest, most powerful LGBT lobby — is stamped all over the materials. Children 3-5 are told about Jazz, a boy who wanted to be a girl. They see a video in which he reads from a book about his transition that made him happy. At the end, Jazz says: “To all the kids out there who are seeing this book for the first time, I just want to say that you can be like Jazz. You can be your true self.”
youcanbelikejazz.jpg
Illinois teachers' guide from Human Rights Campaign
The left insists homosexuals and transgenders are born that way, but what if they aren’t? Research at Brown University strongly suggests that: “‘Rapid-onset gender dysphoria’ transgenderism may be a social contagion linked with having friends who identify as LGBT, an identity politics culture, and an increase in internet use.” Are public schools turning into laboratories for LGBT identity culture?
