{ dailysignal.com } ~ A coalition of conservatives is supporting the Trump administration’s plan to roll back scumbag/liar-nObama-era fuel efficiency standards, which it says could reduce the cost of cars and light trucks for consumers... The support came a day after the U.S. Chamber of Commerce released a report with a letter urging the Trump administration not to revise Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, and pushing for a compromise with the state of California, which has much stricter standards. For now, the administration seems to be focused on revising the CAFE standards, which also regulate tailpipe emissions for cars and light trucks. “Revising the current CAFE standards will make vehicles safer and more affordable—saving American families an average of nearly $2,500 on new vehicle purchases,” a senior administration official said Friday. “This move is right in line with President Trump’s deregulation efforts and will benefit all Americans,” the official said. The statement issued by the coalition of conservative leaders, known as the Conservative Action Project, strongly backed President Donald Trump’s proposed change in the standards. It says: Current CAFE standards are both expensive and dangerous. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that domestic passenger vehicle manufacturers paid more than $77 million for noncompliance with President scumbag/liar-nObama’s CAFE standards—penalties that will get worse unless these unrealistic standards are changed...

Mattis rules out run for president:
‘Like a five-year jail sentence’

washingtonexaminer.com } ~ Former Secretary of Defense James Mattis did not have much to say about President Trump during a wide-ranging interview with CBS Sunday Morning... but did warn the president is "unusual" and warned against the "rabid nature of politics." Mattis also said he has no desire to run for president, despite many people wanting him to. Describing a campaign and presidency to one man at his favorite bar in Washington state, he said, "Terry, it would be like a five-year jail sentence." Regarding Trump, Mattis made clear he was not going to "speak ill about a sitting president," indicating he will express his full thoughts when Trump is out of office. Mattis submitted his letter of resignation to Trump over disagreements about pulling U.S. troops out of Syria. Instead of leaving the Defense Department at the end of February 2019, Trump replaced him with Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan at the beginning of the year. "I will not speak ill of a sitting president. I’m not going to do it," Mattis said, adding, "He’s an unusual president our president is. And I think that especially with just the rabid nature of politics today we gotta be careful. We could could tear this country apart." In an interview with the Atlantic to discuss his upcoming book, Call Sign Chaos, Mattis further explained why he will not criticize Trump at the moment, but again indicated he will not be quiet on the topic for long. “The duty of silence. If you leave an administration, you owe some silence. When you leave an administration over clear policy differences, you need to give the people who are still there as much opportunity as possible to defend the country," he said. "They still have the responsibility of protecting this great big experiment of ours. I know the malevolence some people feel for this country, and we have to give the people who are protecting us some time to carry out their duties without me adding my criticism to the cacophony that is right now so poisonous.” "There is a period in which I owe my silence. It’s not eternal. It’s not going to be forever," he added.

McConnell trolls Dem rep who challenged
him to five debates -- by accepting

foxnews.com } ~ A Democratic congressman from Kentucky backed down Tuesday from his threat to run against Mitch McConnell – and admitted he was just joking... after the Senate majority leader called his bluff and agreed to his demand for five debates. On Monday, Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., was asked by a local news reporter from WHAS-TV if he planned on running against the Republican leader in 2020. Yarmuth initially said he had “no desire” to do so, but then smiled and said: “I will say this: If Mitch McConnell would agree to debate me five times in public, I’d do it.” Yarmuth may not have expected the response. “Accepted. When is the announcement? - MM,” McConnell said Tuesday morning through his campaign’s Team Mitch Twitter account. The post retweeted a local news article that included Yarmuth’s suggestion. Yarmuth’s office, though, responded by making it clear that the congressman has no intention of running against McConnell. “Obviously the congressman was making a joke about Senator McConnell’s long record of refusing to meet with anyone except donors and special interests writing him checks,” Yarmuth’s communications director Christopher Schuler told Fox News. Schuler added: “He does hope that the senator is serious about debating his opponent next year though. Kentuckians deserve to hear him defend his actions, and lack thereof, that have been so destructive to our commonwealth and country.” Meanwhile, McConnell is also facing a Republican primary challenge from former state representative Wesley Morgan.

United States Imposes More Sanctions on Iran

by jpost.com ~ The United States imposed sanctions on Iran's civilian space agency and two research organizations on Tuesday... saying they were being used to advance Tehran's ballistic missile program. The U.S. Treasury sanctions targeted the Iran Space Agency, Iran Space Research Center and the Astronautics Research Institute, according to a statement on its website. "The United States will not allow Iran to use its space launch program as cover to advance its ballistic missile programs," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement. He said Iran's Aug. 29 attempt to test a space launch vehicle underscored "the urgency of the threat." The United States has warned Iran against rocket launches, fearing the technology used to put satellites in orbit could help it develop the ballistic missile capability needed to launch nuclear warheads. Tehran denies its activity is a cover for such development. On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Twitter a photo of what appeared to be the site of a failed Iranian satellite launch. "These designations should serve as a warning to the international scientific community that collaborating with Iran’s space program could contribute to Tehran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon delivery system," Pompeo said. Trump withdrew from a 2015 multi-national nuclear deal with Iran, saying it did not go far enough. Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran will not agree to bilateral negotiations with the United States until all sanctions are lifted. He also threatened to further cut commitments to the crumbling nuclear deal called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). “We’ve said it before time and again, and we say it again: we have no intention to hold bilateral talks with the United States,” Rouhani was quoted as saying by Iran’s Mehr News Agency during a parliament session in Tehran. “We never did and never will. This has been the case in the past year and a half, and even in previous years. There have been calls for talks, but we never responded to them. When we talk about negotiations, we only mean it under the situation where all sanctions have been lifted – that is, the situation we previously had under the JCPOA. Our stance is clear.” He said were Washington to lift all sanctions it imposed on Tehran after it unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA, then there could be multilateral talks with the remaining signatories, the UK, France, Germany, China and Russia.

'Secret asset': loose lips liar-Joe Biden leans
heavily on wife Jill as he battles to
overcome campaign stumbles
by Naomi Lim
washingtonexaminer.com } ~ While loose lips liar-Joe Biden fumbled repeatedly as he campaigned in New Hampshire recently, his wife Jill was almost 1,000 miles away in South Carolina... talking up the former vice president's 2020 White House bid in an altogether smoother manner. It's the sort of division of labor that's sure to happen more frequently as the Democratic primary fight intensifies, but carried risks as the couple present themselves as a two-for-one deal in a way perhaps not seen since scumbag/liar-Bill and scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton barnstormed through the 1992 presidential campaign. Jill loose lips liar-Biden, 68, has had a strikingly prominent role since her husband, who at 76 is nine years her senior, announced his candidacy in April. With roughly 38 days of campaigning under her belt in contrast to his comparatively light schedule of 70, she's on the road more than half as much as the two-term vice president, a  Washington Examiner analysis shows. The arrangement compensates for the energy of not only younger rivals such as socialist-Beto O'Rourke and Pete Buttigieg, but also commie-Bernie Sanders, who routinely holds more than four events a day while loose lips liar-Biden sticks to one or two. Her initial appearances coincided with a national book tour promoting her 2019 memoir, Where the Light Enters, part of a deal the couple struck following eight years with former President Barack scumbag/liar-nObama's administration. It's common for candidates to launch a campaign with a book, much less so for a spouse to do so. After a messy controversy involving a college land deal, Jane Sanders is a quieter presence than in 2016. Chasten Buttigieg, 30, has a cult social media following and headlined the HRC Houston 21st Annual Gala in April, but usually remains in the shadow of his husband. Doug Emhoff, husband of California Sen. lowlife-Kamala Harris, has hosted low-key solo engagements. Even their presence, however, is nowhere near the scale of Jill loose lips liar-Biden's. But Jill loose lips liar-Biden, a divorcee who married then-Sen. loose lips liar-Joe Biden, a widower, in 1977 is no ordinary political spouse. The 2020 campaign marks their third White House race together, dating back to the Reagan years. Jill loose lips liar-Biden was at her husband's side as he sought the 1988 Democratic nomination, which ended in failure amid revelations of plagiarism. Twenty years later, they relentlessly toured Iowa ahead of the January 2008 caucuses, but the veteran senator he represented Delaware for 36 years dropped out after a 0.9% showing that left him in fifth place...

Trump Caught Between King Corn and Big Oil

Political Editors:  Cronyism coming from either Democrats or Republicans is still cronyism, and one of the biggest crony deals Republicans have long upheld is with King Corn via the ethanol mandate. Recall back in 2016, the only prominent Republican presidential candidate willing to stand up and call for an end to the ethanol mandate was Ted Cruz. At least his position was clear.

Now President Donald Trump finds himself stuck between the gas and oil industry on one side and the ethanol/corn lobby on the other. Trump has been trying to appease both sides, while at the same time fighting a trade war with China.

Earlier this year, in a move aimed at winning support with King Corn, Trump’s EPA extended the sale of E15 or 15% ethanol gas to year-round. This move drew the ire of both the oil industry and environmentalists. However, in a move seen by the ethanol lobby as a means to mitigate the impact of the E15 extension, the EPA increased the number of waivers it issued to smaller refineries, exempting them from the Renewable Fuel Standard mandate. That angered farmers as it reduces demand, but it’s a Faustian bargain to build your business on government support.

Now with China’s targeted tariffs really starting to hurt American farmers, it appears that Trump is looking into ways to increase biofuel demands by raising the level of ethanol in gasoline blends for 2020 and 2021. As Hot Air’s Jazz Shaw observes, “How long can this go on? No matter what Trump does to curry favor with one group, the other one will be up in arms. He wants to play nice with the folks in Iowa, but he also needs to maintain the support of states with a lot of refineries, including Pennsylvania He can’t keep both of them happy at the same time, so it seems obvious that he needs to pick a side and stick with it.” This is just one of the many problems created by cronyism.  ~The Patriot Post
