Unlike other schools, charter schools are funded by the public but operated privately, sometimes as a for-profit school. They are not under control of education departments, so these schools are free to hire and fire teachers and administrators as they see fit. Many foreign nationals are attracted to charter schools because it allows them to run American schools while being supported by taxpayers’ dollars. Some of these nationals include Turkish investors with ties to Fethullah Gulen, a radical Islamist and multi-billionaire who is at the top of the largest chain of U.S. charter schools. He is known to be pushing radical Islam in a number of ways in the U.S., and is a man whom the FBI has attempted to take down but cannot touch..

A banking crisis begins in the United States and then spreads to Europe, where even sovereign debt is no longer safe. Individual countries are locked into a single monetary regime and unable to stimulate their economies. Am I my describing the Great Recession? Yes, but I’m also describing the Great Depression of the early 1930s. Now let’s push the comparison a bit further. At the time, the Depression was widely viewed as representing the failure of unbridled capitalism. Monetary policy was assumed to be expansionary but ineffective. So far I’m still describing both the 1930s and recent history. Today, however, the Great Depression is seen very differently, thanks to the path-breaking research of Milton Friedman and Anna Schwartz. Even former Fed Chair Ben Bernanke admits that the Federal Reserve caused the Great Depression, with a highly contractionary monetary policy. The U.S. Navy sailors were humiliated by being forced to kneel with their hands behind their heads in a submissive position. Then Iran had videos of this degrading scene distributed worldwide. To add insult to injury,Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei recently awarded medals to the five Revolutionary Guard naval commanders for “capturing” the 10 U.S. soldiers.

At about the same time, Iran reportedly had one of their Ghadir class submarines targeting the carrier. There should be no doubt that these acts are provocative and are a form of “conditioning” of U.S. Naval forces to accept Iran’s aggression tactics as the norm. This is unacceptable.

The Persian Gulf must be treated as a war zone. The United States must send a clear message that these provocative acts will not be tolerated. The nObama administration had foolishly hoped that with the recently completed and implemented sham nuclear weapons agreement on January 16, Iran would modify its behavior by becoming a more responsible member of the international community. They were sadly mistaken. The current belligerent attitude of Iran should come as no surprise. After all, they have been at war with the United States for over 36 years, starting with the takeover of our Tehran embassy in November 1979. Then came the bombing of our Beirut embassy and the U.S. Marine Barracks in 1983, plus a whole host of other terrorist actions that have caused the loss of life of thousands of American military and civilian personnel. All with no response from the world’s superpower.
