Ted Cruz: U.S. Colleges Are Raising a
by libertyplanet.com ~ Senator Ted Cruz addressed far-left indoctrination occurring at colleges and universities during a recent Young America’s Foundation National Conservative Student Conference... Speaking to the crowd of students, the 2016 presidential candidate said American “colleges and universities are trying really hard to raise a generation of pansies.” Cruz argued that places of higher learning shield students from “ideas that are scary” with preposterous “safe spaces.” The Senator maintained that young adults should instead be taught to tackle and engage with these types of ideas. Cruz remarked, “if you are a university administrator, the ideas that are represented in this room are terrifying.” Driving home his point, Cruz said, “there are no safe spaces in this room.” While speaking to the students, the 2016 presidential candidate challenged them to “defend liberty” because it both “works” and is “powerful.” He claimed Democrats have gone “stark-raving nuts” in their defense of socialism, which Cruz touted as having proven to be a “manifest disaster.” TheBlaze reported that the Senator “challenged Hollywood leftists to put their money where their mouths are and hop inside inflatable rafts at the southern tip of Florida and head toward the ‘socialist utopia that is communist Cuba’ if they hate capitalism so much.” Cruz admonished the left for being “so darned angry” and devoid of a sense of humor. He advised conservative students to avoid liberals’ fallacies and to attempt to “have fun” in spite of the nation’s current political struggles. When Cruz concluded his speech, he answered questions from the audience. One student relayed the outrageous political correctness that has taken over debate competitions on college and university campuses. The student shared that debate participants are forced to write their gender pronouns on a board. This individual also revealed that those who debate must “trigger warn” before unleashing any “edgy” content. Debaters can also get “equity called” for offensive statements. Allegedly, debate “gender minority” tournaments are also a thing. These matches exclude males...

The request tracks Democratic promises to scrutinize Kavanaugh even after his confirmation to the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh’s White House records before voting on his nomination,” Democratic Reps. scumbag liar-Jerry Nadler of California and Henry Johnson of Georgia wrote in a letter to the Archives. scumbag liar-Nadler chairs the Judiciary Committee, while Johnson leads a subcommittee that oversees the federal bench. “Now and as always, the Court’s fidelity to the principles of equal and impartial justice, as well as the public’s faith in the integrity of the judiciary, are foundational to maintaining the rule of law,” the pair wrote elsewhere. Kavanaugh held two positions in the Bush administration. From 2001 to 2003 he was a lawyer in the White House counsel’s office. Thereafter, he served as staff secretary until his confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 2006. The National Archives has processed records from Kavanaugh’s tenure as White House counsel, according to the scumbag liar-Nadler-Johnson letter. Additional items will be available pursuant to the Presidential Records Act beginning in 2021. The letter asks for records relating to Kavanaugh’s tenure in both posts. Democrats asked the Archives to produce documents from Kavanaugh’s service in the White House counsel’s office, and to release records from his staff secretary files as they become available. “Chairman scumbag liar-Nadler’s request is so far outside the scope of judicial ethics, it’s harassment,” said Republican Georgia Rep. Doug Collins, the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee. “Senate Democrats spent months launching false accusations in an attempt to smear Justice Kavanaugh’s reputation and block his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, and now House Democrats want to follow suit with yet another fishing expedition to tarnish his good name.”... The novel, first published in 2014 in Hebrew, was translated into English and won the 2017 Man Booker Prize. SpaceX successfully launched Israeli communication satellite Amos-17 into orbit from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Tuesday night, promising increased internet connectivity for sub-Saharan Africa once operational. Manufactured by Boeing Satellite Systems International, Ramat Gan-based Spacecom’s Amos-17 satellite soared into the Florida sky at 19:23 p.m. local time (02:23 a.m. Israel time) on-board a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle, en route to its 17°E orbital position over central Africa. The satellite separated from the launcher’s second stage 33 minutes after ignition as planned, and is in constant contact with its ground station. Amos-17 will commence a sequence of in-orbit tests in the coming weeks, expected to take approximately three months, prior to beginning commercial operations. “Amos-17 places us directly into the exciting growth of Africa’s Sub-Saharan vibrant markets,” said Spacecom CEO and president David Pollack following the launch....

{ jpost.com } ~ When Israeli lunar lander Beresheet crash-landed onto the Moon in April, watched live by millions across the world... the spacecraft left a rather serious dent in the lunar surface. According to a report published Monday by American magazine Wired, however, Beresheet may have left more on the Moon than previously thought. The SpaceIL spacecraft was apparently carrying thousands of microscopic tardigrades, also known as "little water bears," which are among the most resilient animals known to man. The tardigrades, only 0.5mm in length when fully grown, joined the lunar-destined journey as part of an initiative led by the Arch Mission Foundation, founded by Nova Spivack. Aiming to maintain a backup of planet Earth around the Solar System, Beresheet carried the foundation's lunar library – a tiny 30-million page archive of human history and civilization, human DNA samples and a few thousand dehydrated tardigrades. Based on the foundation's analysis of the spacecraft's trajectory and the composition of their lunar library, Spivack told Wired that he was quite confident that their payload mostly or entirely survived the impact. Engineers lost contact with the spacecraft only minutes before it was due to complete the historic lunar landing on April 11, making a high-velocity crash-landing inevitable. Reaching the moon was a feat previously completed only by the United States, Russia then the USSR and China, backed by giant sums far exceeding Beresheet’s modest NIS 350 million ($99m.) budget. "For the first 24 hours, we were just in shock," Spivack said. "We sort of expected that it would be successful. We knew there were risks but we didn’t think the risks were that significant."....

BWXT May Stop Making SSBN Missile Tubes,
Leaving Single Supplier

{ news.usni.org } ~ A key manufacturer of missile tubes for the Columbia-class submarine program is weighing not building anymore after its current commitment... leaving only one company to build the critical component for the Navy’s next ballistic missile submarine. BWX Technologies is discussing its future missile tube work with Columbia-class prime contractor General Dynamics Electric Boat, but the company has not yet firmed up a contract, Rex Geveden, chief executive of BWX, told analysts during a Tuesday morning conference call. The current order of missile tubes is expected to be completed by 2021. “At this point, we have not received any incremental orders for missile tube continuous production. As we have mentioned on prior calls, in the absence of any additional orders we plan to reallocate most of that CAPEX to support future growth in the core of Navy business,” Geveden said. The production facilities for missile tubes can switch over to making the nuclear reactors BWX builds for the Columbia-class and Virginia-class submarines and the Ford-class aircraft carriers, he said. The switch wouldn’t cost much capital investment, since the heavy equipment can be used to manufacture both products, Geveden said. If BWX does pivot its missile tube manufacturing facilities to nuclear reactor work, the company will save about $10 million, as BWX would not have to invest as much into expanding other reactor-build facilities. “Right now, we have more work than we have capacity for,” Geveden said of BWX’s reactor business. During the last quarter, Geveden said, BWX hired 100 new workers to meet demand, which increased with the Navy’s plan to buy a third Virginia-class submarine during Fiscal Year 2020. The Navy had been on pace to buy two Virginia-class submarines a year. “Because of the volume, because of the demand signal, we have mandatory over-time going at all of our plants, all five of our North American nuclear reactor plants,” Geveden said. With missile tube production, BWX faces twin challenges of finding and retaining highly trained workers while trying to earn a profit manufacturing complex products with little commercial appeal. BWX is not the only firm facing these pressures. The health of the defense industrial base is highlighted in Pentagon report released in October which details how scores of firms have succumbed to the same pressures facing BWX’s missile tube business....

{ dailycaller.com } ~ Lawyers representing Boy Scout sexual abuse victims called on Congress to act in a Washington, D.C., Tuesday press conference... The Abused in Scouting (AIS) legal team announced their first case filed against the Boy Scouts of America at a Washington, D.C., press conference, claiming that there has been thus far no Congressional oversight involved in the massive sex abuse scandal within the Boy Scouts. The lawsuit was filed Monday in Pennsylvania and the plaintiff, who has remained anonymous, alleges that he was assaulted hundreds of times by a scout leader in the 1970’s. The file contains the names of over 300 alleged sex abuse predators from 48 states and the District of Columbia. North and South Dakota are the only states that have not spoken out to the AIS team, the lawyers said Tuesday. “Each one of these 350 abusers has probably dozens of other victims who have not come forward,” lawyer Stewart Eisenberg told reporters. The legal team told those gathered that over 800 abuse survivors between the ages of 14 and 88 have revealed tales of abuse to AIS after the organization began running nationwide ads encouraging survivors of abuse to speak out. Lawyer Andrew Van Arsdale spoke to the courage of those who have come forward thus far, saying that their decision to speak out is no easy one. These men “can still smell the scent of the man who crawled into their sleeping bag,” Arsdale told reporters. But Arsdale pointed out that AIS’s video calls on survivors to protect children by identifying their abuser, and that after abuse victims had seen the video, “the phones calls didn’t stop.”....

{ freebeacon.com } ~ The nonprofit group Union of Concerned Scientists continues to operate behind the scenes to encourage, promote, and orchestrate positive publicity for government lawsuits against energy companies... according to emails obtained via open records. this June, Santa Cruz mayor Martine Watkins traveled to Honolulu to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors summer meeting to talk about her city's lawsuit against Exxon and other energy producers. The California mayor was also boosting a resolution voicing support for cities' rights to sue oil companies and others. Emails obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show that the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) first approached Santa Cruz officials about the idea of Mayor Watkins appearing there. "If Mayor Watkins would be interested in these speaking opportunities, we would also request a briefing for her—and other relevant staff, possibly in your office as well—to help prepare for the activities," one of the emails from UCS to Santa Cruz read. "UCS has some new information to share that could be of interest." The emails show that UCS was willing to underwrite most if not all of Watkins's travel. Watkins appears to have paid travel expenses out of her own pocket, but UCS paid for her conference registration fees....

{ livescience.com } ~ In recent years, dozens of people in the United States who bought prepackaged salads at their local grocery stores found unexpected extra ingredients mixed in with their kale and romaine... frogs, lizards, rodents and even a bat. In 10 instances, the animals were still alive. Perhaps, that made the encounters less gruesome … or infinitely worse. Researchers recently reviewed reports of these animal discoveries dating back to 2003, describing their findings in a new study. They presented 40 examples of bagged salads purchases in 20 states that included unwelcome wildlife stowaways; 38 of these encounters took place during the past decade. 9 Disgusting Things That the FDA Allows in Your Food. The scientists collected data on incidents that had been covered by news outlets online, noting details such as the date and location of the animal discoveries; the type of produce; whether the produce was boxed or bagged; and the animal species — and if it was dead or alive. For the dead animals, the scientists recorded "whether the animal was whole or partial," they wrote in the study, published online July 20 in the journal Science of the Total Environment. Of the animals found in salad, about 53% were frogs and toads, and most of the frogs were in the treefrog group. Around 23% of the salad animals were reptiles, while nearly 18% were mammals and the rest were birds, the scientists reported. Most of the mammals were rodents, but the one instance of a bat in salad — a Brazilian free-tailed bat (Tadarida brasiliensis) found in Florida in 2017 — received significantly more media attention than other animals, likely because bats are known vectors for many diseases that affect people, the researchers explained. They also noted that animal appearances were three times more common in bags of conventional vegetables than in organic greens....

James Brantley, the owner of Southern Provision LLC, was sentenced to 18 months for each of three felony counts and six months for the misdemeanor. Judge J. Ronnie Greer, presiding judge for the U.S. District Court for Eastern Tennessee, ruled Brantley may serve the time concurrently. He must also pay $1,423,588.00 in restitution. Maximum penalties for the two tax felonies, a wire fraud violation, and the misdemeanor of employing unauthorized aliens might have sent Brantley, 62, to prison for more than 25 years. Most of the action in the Brantley case occurred last year. It went public in April when agents of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided the Southern Provision slaughterhouse in Bean Station, TN, taking 104 undocumented aliens into custody. The Bean Station establishment has operated under a grant of inspection from USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service since 2004 for both meat slaughter and processing....
