Supreme Court Upholds Double Jeopardy Rule
That Might Weaken Reach Of Trump’s Pardons

{dailycaller.com} ~ The Supreme Court left undisturbed Monday a legal rule that allows state and federal governments to prosecute individuals for the same conduct despite the Constitution’s ban on double jeopardy... The case was closely watched because of its possible ramifications for President Donald Trump, given continued speculation that he could pardon confidants facing criminal convictions like Paul Manafort. The pardon power authorizes the president to grant clemency for federal crimes, but does not reach state matters. The Fifth Amendment’s double jeopardy clause prohibits multiple prosecutions for the same offense. An exception to this rule called the separate sovereigns doctrine allows state and federal governments to bring successive prosecutions for the same crime. Monday’s decision leaves the doctrine in place, meaning any person Trump pardons remains exposed to state prosecutions. Former special counsel Robert Mueller was working with the New York attorney general to build a case against Manafort as of August 2017. Other Trump associates, like Roger Stone and former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, face purely federal charges. The case was one for unexpected ideological bedfellows. Justice Samuel Alito delivered Monday’s opinion for a seven-justice majority, while Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Neil Gorsuch dissented. “All told, the evidence does not establish that those who ratified the Fifth Amendment took it to bar successive prosecutions under different sovereigns’ laws — much less do so with enough force to break a chain of precedent linking dozens of cases over 170 years,” the Court’s decision reads....

John Dean Have to Do With Anything?
Liberals online were pumped about former White House Counsel John Dean testifying before the House Judiciary Committee on Monday. And why wouldn’t they be? Dean, who was a central character in the Watergate scandal of the 1970s... has since become a liberal activist, publishing entire truckloads of books and articles that play right into the Democrat agenda. And, you know, since Richard Nixon was a president and there was an investigation and almost an impeachment…well, obviously Dean will have a lot to testify about. Because, um, yeah. Reasons. At this point, scumbag liar-Jerrold Nadler might as well call Rachel Maddow to testify. Why not? She has as much personal knowledge of the Trump investigation as Dean does. And she would undoubtedly be even more willing to talk all about the many so-called crimes that Trump and his associates have committed. If Democrats are determined to stage stunt show spectaculars on C-Span, why stop at unrelated figures in government? Call Maddow. Call Jennifer Rubin. Put Ana Navarro at the witness table. Hell, why don’t we just sit scumbag liar-Nadler himself down there and let his fellow Democrats ask him questions?Seems to us, we could save a lot of time and money if the Democrats would just carefully read the Mueller report, line by line, and absorb the conclusions. There was no collusion with Russia. That’s the big takeaway. That’s the invalidation of their years-long propaganda campaign against the president and his supporters. If they would just take a moment, breathe deeply, and come to grips with that exclamatory point, we could move on as a country past this dark episode in American history. But no, they have convinced themselves that it isn’t true. Or, at least, they have convinced themselves that they can convince the public that it isn’t true. That if Trump wasn’t guilty of collusion, he must still be guilty of something. Obstruction? Sure, why not. And if not that, then cheating on his taxes. And if not that, then being really mean to migrants. Something, anything. Because they just can’t simply drop it and resolve to beat Donald Trump politically in 2020. They just don’t believe they can do it.

Why Trump's Latest Polling Numbers Matter
Thomas Gallatin: We are 17 months out from the 2020 presidential election, so why should anyone care that recent polling (including from President Donald Trump’s own pollsters) shows him far behind his Democrat opponents in several key states? Because pollaganda is real and effective. It’s how the Leftmedia shapes and moves public opinion, all while gauging its success. In other words, polling more often than not is a reflection of the effectiveness of the media’s messaging as people simply report back what they’ve been fed.
For the entirety of Trump’s presidency, 90% of the mainstream media’s reporting on him has been negative. No previous president has had to contend with such an onslaught of media antagonism on a daily basis, and yet in spite of this Trump has seen remarkable success in implementing his America First agenda. The question is, how many Americans are aware of this? How many realize that the strong economy they are now enjoying is largely due to Trump’s policies?
But there are also important caveats regarding the White House’s internal polling. Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale explained, “These leaked numbers are ancient, in campaign terms, from months-old polling that began in March before two major events had occurred: the release of the summary of the Mueller report exonerating the President, and the beginning of the Democrat candidates defining themselves with the far-left policy message.”
Yet, as everyone knows and as the 2016 election proved, the only real poll that ultimately matters is on Election Day. And 2020 Election Day is still a long way off, with Trump just this week set to formally announce his reelection bid in Orlando, Florida. Moreover, Trump’s Democrat challenger has yet to be determined, with that challenger sure to be bloodied by the time they face off against Trump. Speaking of the Democrat field, the current frontrunner, loose lips liar-Joe Biden, has seen his big lead weaken while a new CBS poll shows hard-leftist Elizabeth dinky-Warren moving into second, overtaking the fast-fading socialist commie-Bernie Sanders.
One final note: At this same point in his presidency, Ronald Reagan polled nationally at 35% favorability; Trump is currently at 37%. Reagan went on to win the 1984 election in a 49-state landslide. Why? Many historians point to Reagan’s economic turnaround, which likewise may prove to be the trump card that gets Trump reelected. However, Democrats and the Leftmedia will do everything in their power to convince Americans that voting for Trump will bring about the end of the country, and they’re pushing a recession to make their predictions come “true.”
