washingtonexaminer.com } ~ Walmart announced Tuesday it will end the sale of handgun ammunition... a decision that comes as the retail giant faced pressure to curb gun and ammunition sales in the wake of a shooting at its store in El Paso, Texas. In an open letter to Walmart associates, CEO Doug McMillon said that the store plans to discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition and no longer sell handgun ammunition. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer will also no longer sell handguns at its stores in Alaska, marking a complete exit from the handgun market. Additionally, Walmart is asking its customers to no longer openly carry guns in its stores or in Sam’s Clubs where open carry is allowed under state law. “We know these decisions will inconvenience some of our customers, and we hope they will understand,” McMillon said. “As a company, we experienced two horrific events in one week, and we will never be the same.”The move by Walmart comes after 22 people were killed when a gunman opened fire at one of its stores in El Paso. Days prior to the massacre, a disgruntled Walmart employee in Mississippi shot and killed two other associates. After the rampage in El Paso, 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls and gun control groups urged Walmart to stop selling all firearms and ammunition, though the retailer refrained from changing its firearm policies in the days following the attack. During a call with investors last month, McMillon noted Walmart makes up roughly 2% of the nation’s firearms market and sells about 20% of the country’s ammunition. The decision to stop selling handgun ammunition will reduce Walmart’s market share to between 6% and 9%... This decision will not stop the shooting.

'Catastrophic decisions': Mattis savages scumbag/liar-nObama for 'failure'

washingtonexaminer.com } ~ Though former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis only mentions his last boss, President Trump, in the opening pages of his new book... the Washington establishment seems certain the tome on leadership is directed at him, with one observer calling it “mainly a 100,000-word subtweet.” Mattis says he won’t discuss a sitting president, though it seems clear he disdains Trump’s leadership style. But he is scathing about a former president in Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead, which is released today, and he doesn’t hesitate to name him: Barack scumbag/liar-nObama. The former general's opinion of scumbag/liar-nObama, for whom Mattis was head of U.S. Central Command from 2010 until 2013, might be summed up by a single entry in the book’s index: “scumbag/liar-nObama, Barack, strategic thinking lacking.” That entry points readers to a couple of the book’s most thoughtful passages on the necessity of allies and the dangers of alienating them. Those who have heard Mattis in his publicity campaign emphasize these points assume he’s speaking indirectly of Trump: for example, his disparagement of NATO. But Mattis makes clear in Call Sign Chaos that he believes scumbaqg/liar-nObama bungled Middle East policy and, as a result, sent American allies around the world a dangerous message. Mattis summarizes his time commanding CENTCOM, overseeing military operations in the Middle East and Central Asia until scumbag/liar-nObama fired him, in harsh terms: “It was to be a time when I would witness duty and deceit, courage and cowardice, and, ultimately, strategic frustration.” The general was in charge of two wars, in Iraq and Afghanistan, though one ended on his watch — or so the president said. “You know I say what I mean, and I mean what I say,” scumbag/liar-nObama said in fall 2012, as Mattis notes. “I said I’d end the war in Iraq. I ended it.” Mattis follows this up with an even more succinct statement: “Rhetoric doesn’t end conflicts.”...

Zarif's Inexcusable Warm Welcome in Europe

gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made a surprise appearance at the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Biarritz, France, which ended on August 26. Prior to his attendance at the gathering in France, he stopped in Sweden and Norway.. Denmark was not part of his itinerary, of course, due to Copenhagen's rocky relations with Tehran, over last year's assassination attempt against an Iranian Sunni separatist on Danish soil. The purpose of Zarif's trip to Europe, apparently, was to discuss ways to ease tensions in the Persian Gulf and rescue the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action(JCPOA) -- the nuclear deal with Iran from which US President Donald Trump withdrew in May 2018. Zarif's European tour spurred many human rights activists and Iranian opposition groups abroad to protest. Zarif, after all, represents a regime that is widely regarded as one of the world's leading violators of human rights. Those in Iran who raise a voice against Tehran's policies in any realm are often incarcerated: Among them are labor activists, lawyers and women's rights activists, children's rights activists, journalists, members of ethnic and religious minorities, environmental activists and even wildlife activists. Days before Zarif's trip, in fact, UN human rights experts called on the regime in Tehran to release three women recently sentenced to decades in prison for violating the law that women must wear the hijab. The demonstrations in Europe were aimed both at Zarif and at European authorities for hosting him. In Stockholm on August 21, peaceful protesters outside the Swedish Parliament were so harassed and beaten by police that Reza Pahlavi -- the Maryland-based heir to the throne of the former Iranian monarchy his father's ouster coincided with the 1979 Islamic revolution that ushered in the reign of the ayatollahs -- released the following statement...  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14804/iran-zarif-welcome-europe

jpost.com } ~ Hezbollah has set up a production and conversion site for precision missiles near the town of Al-Nabi Sheeth in Lebanon’s Bekaa... Israel’s military announced on Tuesday, saying the facility was established in recent years as a site for the production of weapons led by Iran and Hezbollah. Various activities to facilitate the manufacture and conversion of precision-guided missiles at the facility have lately been identified, including the establishment of a dedicated assembly line for precision weapons, and the transfer of sensitive and dedicated equipment.  “This facility is of superior importance to the Hezbollah precision-missile project, which is why Hezbollah, in fear of strikes, evacuated precious and unique equipment from the compound to civilian locations in Beirut,” the military said. The facility has a number of machines designed to manufacture the motors and missile warheads for missiles capable of hitting within 10 meters from its target. Iran, the IDF said, is providing special machinery, trains production operators, and regularly provides guidance and support. The facility is divided into different sections, including for motor production, quality assurance, logistics, and the manufacturing of explosives for warheads. Last week the IDF announced that Hezbollah – which has been working on the expensive and classified precision-missile project since 2013 – has been attempting to build factories to produce precision missiles in southern Lebanon, Beirut and the Bekaa under the guidance of senior Iranian officers. Israel was alleged to have struck a base last week belonging to the Palestinian PFLP-GC terrorist group near Qusaya in Lebanon’s Bekaa, close to the border with Syria, causing material damage but no casualties. Hezbollah has over 130,000 rockets and missiles with varying ranges and payloads, and while the group has been working on this project since 2013, they only have several dozen precision missiles.  https://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Hezbollah-setting-up-precision-missile-site-in-Lebanons-Bekaa-Valley-600515

Force In Lebanon Fails To Keep Peace

The Hezbollah terror group fired several anti-tank guided missiles at an army base and a military jeep just inside northern Israel’s border with Lebanon on Sunday afternoon, causing no injuries, the Israel Defense Forces said... Military sources said that the vehicle was empty when it was struck, but that soldiers had been inside half an hour earlier. IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus initially said that the armored jeep had been painted with a red Jewish star, identifying it as an ambulance, but later retracted the claim and clarified that the vehicle had been used as an ambulance but was not marked as such. In response to the attack, the Israeli military said its artillery cannons and attack helicopters fired approximately 100 shells and bombs at Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said no Israelis were so much as “scratched” by the Hezbollah attack. “There were no Israeli injuries, not even a scratch,” Netanyahu said, smiling, at the opening of a Honduras diplomatic office in Jerusalem. Clearly the United Nations Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has failed to maintain peace and ensure that Hezbollah stop their attacks on Israel. U.N. peacekeepers were sent to Lebanon in 1978 following the passage of U.N. Security resolutions 425 and 426. After the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, the U.N. Security Council passed resolution 1701, which in part called on UNIFIL to assist the Lebanese military in establishing an area free of any armed personnel, assets and weapons other than the government and UNIFIL. The budget of UNIFIL for 2018-19 was $481 million. The U.S. is the biggest donor to U.N. peacekeeping, paying around a quarter of its total $6.5 billion budget...

CA Court Overturns Conviction Against
Steinle Killer

Thomas Gallatin:  If there wasn’t already more than enough insult added to injury in the sad case of the death of Kate Steinle at the hands of a five-time deported illegal-alien felon, a California appeals court on Friday overturned the lone conviction against her killer. In the case against Mexican national Jose Ines Garcia-Zarate, the First District Court of Appeals overturned his felony possession of a weapon conviction on a seeming technicality. In its decision, the court noted that the trial judge failed to give the jury “the momentary possession instruction.” The court explained, “It is undisputed that defendant was holding the gun when it fired. But that fact alone does not establish he possessed the gun for more than a moment. To possess the gun, defendant had to know he was holding it.”

You might need to read that last sentence again.

So, as things currently stand, all charges surrounding Steinle’s death have been either dismissed or overturned. Even the Steinles’ civil suit against the city of San Francisco for its “sanctuary city” laws, which directly led to Garcia-Zarate being released rather than detained for immigration authorities, was dismissed earlier this year.

Upon hearing the news, acting U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Ken Cuccinelli responded, “Kate Steinle was tragically killed because San Francisco proudly proclaims itself a sanctuary city. How many more innocents will die [before] sanctuary cities stop harboring violent criminals? This defies common sense, public safety, [and] human decency.”

The good news is, while California has failed to hold Garcia-Zarate accountable, he is still in custody facing federal charges for possessing a firearm and being in the U.S. illegally. That trial is scheduled to begin in January.   ~The Patriot Post
