{ americanthinker.com } ~ I saw my Iranian refugee friend Kaveh in church this morning and asked him what he thought of the killing of Qasem Soleimani. “I’m a little unhappy with it,” he said. “My wife’s unhappy, too. So are our parents in Teheran.” “Why””  “Because he didn’t suffer.”... “You’re a Christian, right?” “Right.” “Trust me, brother, he’s suffering,” I said. I’m an ex-pat living next door to the Middle East, and I don’t think most Americans understand what a significant historic event this is. Most Iranians are completely fed up with the oppressive reign of the mullahs, and most Middle East countries are completely fed up with the organized terrorism being exported by Iran, which has been destabilizing the region for the last four decades. It all began when a rather gullible peanut rancher from Plains, Georgia, who occupied the White House for a mostly unfortunate four years, allowed the foxy old cleric to convince him that a Khomeini-led Iran would be friendly to the United States. Not long after that the U.S. embassy fell to an organized Iranian mob. To be fair, Khomeini wasn’t behind the embassy seizure, but he quickly understood that he held a huge bargaining chip in the face of the Carter-led USA’s lack of resolve. Mark Steyn, substituting for Rush Limbaugh last Friday, said that Soleimani arrived at Bagdhad Airport, collected his luggage, and then about five minutes later collected his seventy-two virgins. “The reason he got seventy two virgins,” Steyn quipped, “was because he was blown into seventy-two pieces.” Victor David Hanson accurately observes in the National Review that “Iran deeply erred in thinking that Trump’s restraint was permanent, that his impeachment meant he had lost political viability, that he would go dormant in an election year, that the stature of his left-wing opponents would surge in such tensions, and that his base would abandon him if he dared to use military force.” Why, pray tell, did Iran miscalculate so badly? Could it be that the mullahs were reading the same leftist propaganda the mainstream media has been spewing about Trump for years now, and, observing the recent vote for impeachment in the U.S. House of Representatives, grossly underestimating both Trump’s strength, and his huge popularity among the vast swathe of the United states sandwiched between the left and right coasts who pound nails, install tile, ride both farm and long-haul tractors, style hair, clean bedpans in hospitals, and wait tables?...

scumbag/liar-nObama launches 2,800 strikes

{ washingtontimes.com } ~ U.S. forces have now surpassed 2,800 strikes against targets in Iraq and Syria under President scumbag/liar-nObama’s war against the Islamic State... all as part of a conflict Congress has yet to specifically authorize — and amid worries lawmakers won’t ever act. Under intense pressure from Capitol Hill, Mr. scumbag/liar-nObama finally submitted a draft authorization for the use of military force against the Islamic State in February, but it’s since languished, caught in the stalemate between those who want tighter restrictions and those who want the president to have as free a hand as possible. Now analysts worry that inaction will set a dangerous precedent and leave Congress shorn of its warmaking powers. “I understand it’s unlikely that they’ll act, but it’s important for them to act,” Shoon Murray, an associate professor in the School of International Service at American University, said last week. “It does take away the war powers of Congress by Congress‘ own deference.” The U.S. military has been conducting strikes in Iraq for 10 months, and began striking directly at targets in Syria last September as part of Mr. scumbag/liar-nObama’s announced campaign to degrade the capabilities of the Islamic State. This past weekend’s attacks brought the total to 1,458 strikes in Iraq and 1,343 in Syria by U.S. forces. Coalition forces allied with the U.S. have conducted another 655 attacks on Iraqi targets and 95 in Syria. Mr. scumbag/liar-nObama has justified the attacks under his commander in chief powers and under the 2001 resolution authorizing force against al Qaeda, and the 2002 resolution authorizing the ouster of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Some lawmakers on Capitol Hill have said Mr. scumbag/liar-nObama is stretching those laws and that the strikes could be illegal — though they say they want to put them on firm footing by passing a new authorization... My-goodness, he didn't get impeach did he.

{ americanthinker.com } ~ Give us a break…. and by “us” I mean the current and former members of the FBI and DoJ that are facing the justified skepticism of the citizens we swore to protect... Due to the actions of a few, the overall trust of the American public, previously enjoyed by both agencies is arguably at an all-time low. Tinfoil hat folks excepted, the general public has always extended the benefit of the doubt to FBI agents in the performance of their duties. This deference was hard-earned by investigators and prosecutors who made the thousands of prominent cases that forged the Bureau’s reputation. The misuse of their positions has already cost the malefactors their jobs. Whingeing over treatment at the hands of those that hurt their feelings only brings further discredit to the organization that once employed them. To the recently fired/resigned employees most well known for their inappropriate personal relationship and ill-advised communication over government devices: As FBI employees receiving assigned government phones, we were all asked to sign an acknowledgment that we had certain responsibilities with respect to usage of those devices. Along with the restrictions that one would expect; primarily for official business, minimal personal use allowed, don’t discuss or transmit classified material, etc. was the reminder that we had no expectation of privacy in using the device. We were further reminded that any digital communication over said devices, be it an email, text, instant message, dialed and/or received telephone numbers would be archived at FBIHQ. For an experienced investigator, the last tidbit is what’s known as a clue. The thinking agent understands, and is reminded annually, that any communication over the “Bu phone” is going to be captured, archived, and preserved for whatever use the owner of the device the government, and by extension, the taxpayer deems appropriate. The part about “no expectation of privacy” is a powerful hint that the government does not need a warrant to look at anything on your government issued device at any time for any reason.  Every agent who has worked a case of any significance understands the rules of the road in bringing that case for prosecution. The idea that “investigators” in the most senior positions were unaware that it was wildly inappropriate to have prejudicial and highly inflammatory text conversations about the subject of an investigation….over government devices, defies reason. The fact that these individuals were immediately dismissed from their roles in the Mueller investigation when this activity came to light, validates the assertion that their actions were unacceptable. Had these investigators been working a criminal case, all of their communications over these devices would have been discoverable by the defense. Any prosecuting attorney would have “had their heads” for effectively wrecking his or her case...  https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/01/redeeming_the_fbi.html

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Hungarian police recently discovered two tunnels used to smuggle migrants into Hungary from Serbia. The tunnels were found at the same time that Hungarian police reported a five-fold increase... in the number of migrants attempting to enter Hungary. Hungary is not alone: Border authorities in countries across the European Union are struggling to stanch renewed flows of illegal migration. More than 126,500 migrants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East illegally entered the EU during 2019, according to the International Organization for Migration. On November 29, Hungarian police detained 44 migrants who were found walking along a highway near Ásotthalom, a village in southern Hungary. Police later learned that the migrants had crossed into Hungary from Serbia by crawling through a 34-meter (112-foot) hand-dug tunnel. The oval tunnel, only 50 cm (20 inches) wide and 60 cm (24 inches) high, had been dug as deep as six meters (20 feet) underground. It had gone undetected because of thick foliage in the area and because the soil that was dug out of the tunnel was dumped into a nearby canal. A second tunnel was found in the village of Csikéria, around 40 km from Ásotthalom. That tunnel was 21.7 meters (70 feet) long. No migrants were found there. Police said they were deploying drones to search for other possible tunnels. At the height of the migration crisis in 2015, Hungary built two razor-wire fences on its southern borders to stop or divert the flow of migrants making their way to Western Europe. The newly-discovered tunnels were built underneath those fences...  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15270/europe-people-smuggling-gangs

Soleimani funeral stampede in Iran leaves

{ foxnews.com } ~ At least 40 Iranians were crushed to death Tuesday in a stampede that erupted during the funeral for Qassem Soleimani... the general killed last week in a U.S. airstrike, the country’s state media is reporting. The gory episode in Soleimani's hometown of Kerman, which also reportedly left more than 200 injured, came as the U.S. Maritime Administration is warning ships across the Middle East to be on alert for possible retaliatory attacks from Iran. “Unfortunately as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions," Pirhossein Koulivand, the head of Iran’s emergency medical services, told state media. The cause of the stampede was not immediately clear. Videos posted online showed people lying lifeless on a road and others shouting and trying to help them — and the incident has now delayed Soleimani’s funeral services. It’s not the first time that chaos has erupted at a funeral for an influential Iranian figure. In 1989, a funeral procession in Tehran for Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini was interrupted when his half-naked remains toppled out of an open coffin live on state television. Mourners had blocked the path of a truck carrying the deceased leader of the Iranian revolution and tore at his burial shroud, knocking his body to the ground. That led the broadcast to be cut short and his body airlifted by military helicopter away from the crowd until his remains could be rewrapped...

Robin Smith:  When the younger generation is looking for hope, where do they turn? Why are some younger adults rejecting hope and community that comes from the assembling of hearts seeking strength in faith?

According to a December 2019 analysis by the American Enterprise Institute’s Daniel Cox, four in 10 Millennials (individuals 23 to 38 years of age) cite that they are religiously unaffiliated. Writing around Pew Research data that point to the fact that this age group is a product of parents who raised their children without the influence or connection to religion or faith, Cox declares, “Millennials are leaving religion and not coming back.”

AEI’s own data show that 17% of Millennials surveyed acknowledged the absence of a faith-based belief system in their upbringing. Contrast that to only 5% of Baby Boomers — aged 55 to 75 years old — who reported a lack of a religious influence in their nurtured years. Further, just one in three Millennials noted attendance in a weekly religious service during their childhood compared to half of Baby Boomers.

Over the last 10 years, according to Pew, there has been a 12% decline in adults who identify as Christians with individuals who label themselves as having no particular beliefs at 26% and the aggregate of Christians down to 65%.

That Law of the Harvest is more than theory — seeds sown do bring forth a crop. Parents erroneously believing their hands-off manner permitted their offspring to find their own way and even pursue some “enlightened” value system honoring the Secular Trinity of Me, Myself, and I were instead sewing seeds that today demand an intellectual approach to faith rather than, well, simple faith to a simple Gospel of grace and the forgiveness of sin.

Inarguably, every single person has a belief system based on exposure to information or through experience. We all believe in something and adhere to some set of mores. It’s just a matter of the object of that belief system whether it’s the monotheistic God of the Judeo-Christian faith, or some other framework that drives a personal definition of morality.

And, that personal definition of morality is growing more relevant in not only the generational divide of faith but is literally dividing the flocks of the faithful and churches.

Look no further than the separation just announced in the Methodist denomination. The split is based on whether Holy Scripture is to be honored in sanctioning marriage as holy matrimony between one man and one woman — treated as a covenant modeled after Christ and His Bride the Church — or whether same-sex marriage is permitted. It’s a manifestation of cultural approvals transcending Biblical Truth. Some personally view same-sex marriage as without consequence and others say what God says, which is that sexual sin — of all sorts — is still sin, but still covered by grace when confessed.

The current split in the religion that was originally founded to reform the Church of England from within by John Wesley is, ironically, taking the similar path faced during the original days of Reformers in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Wesley’s teachings based on the “methodical” devotion and study applied to one’s life that all should have access to God’s salvation through love fell within the Protestant Reformation that declared that the Bible be the standard of teaching and worship.

Today, many Methodists have sacrificed the standard of Truth on the altar of personal whim.

So, in addition to parents without a commitment to faith raising children of the same philosophy, the cultural influences on the definition of right versus wrong have eclipsed the Gospel. But churches themselves have some responsibility in the loss of membership.

If teachings in the church say, “You’re ok, I’m ok, we’re all ok” and “We’ve got grace, so let’s just live as we so desire,” it is no different than the opinions shared at the neighborhood bar, nonprofit, or secular organization. Why would young adults need a community of faith when they’ll hear the same advice and opinions and get the same acceptance at their favorite watering hole among friends who will commiserate and honor the time-tested truth that misery loves company?

In a series on the decline of religion in America, The Washington Times wrote of doctoral candidate Rev. Stephen Koeth at Columbia University teaching one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s sermons, which included references to the road to Jericho and the Good Samaritan. Not only did the class have no knowledge of the dangerous setting of the famous parable of ministry, but they didn’t have any understanding of the basis of the parable itself — the Good Samaritan — whose actions transcended cultural and economic constructs.

Do you think this same group could articulate details about climate change or the need for “safe spaces” from harmful speech?

Again, those churches reflecting and echoing cultural norms and teaching a social-justice agenda rather than Truth from the Bible are not remarkable, inspirational, or courageous. But churches that do boldly teach the hope of Christ in each of us through the forgiveness of sin are indeed the beacons of light daring to say the same thing that God Himself says about our past, our present, and our future.

So where will Americans of all ages find their hope? The brilliant and fearless Paul sums it all up in Galatians 6:8, “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”   ~The Patriot Post
