Great Power Realignment - To Russia?
Shoshana Bryen
.
U.S. President Barack nObama, perhaps sensing futility, called Russian
President Vladimir Putin last weekend. The Kremlin's report of the
phone call posits the U.S. and Russia getting closer --
although, it appears, on Russia's terms.
.
{gatestoneinstitute.org} ~ The shelling of Syrian soldiers by the Turkish military is one more step back into Great Power politics -- historic Turkish-Russian enmity played out over Kurds and Syrians... The U.S. appears to believe 21st century wars cannot be won by military force and that battling parties can be induced to set aside their national and religious aims for a negotiated "peace." Meanwhile, the parties to the conflict are using their armies to pursue victory. Last week, Turkey attacked Kurdish fighters who were struggling to connect Kurdish territory in northern Iraq with a Kurdish enclave in northern Syria along the Turkish border. The Kurds, backed by Russian air power, want to oust Turkish-backed Syrian rebels from the Azaz region, in order to create contiguous territory from northern Iraq to Syrian Kurdistan, and prevent the Syrian rebels from being resupplied by Turkey. The net effect is to boost Kurdish-Russian cooperation; to provide relief for Assad's army in the north; to increase Turkey's hostility toward Russia; and possibly to put Turkey on a collision course with the U.S. -- if Ankara believes its position in NATO will protect it from Russian fallout. It should be noted that although Turkish troops attacked Syrians, they stayed clear of threatening Russia directly. The U.S. has urged both Turkey and the Kurds to decrease hostilities, but Turkey dismissed U.S. calls for a ceasefire. Attacks on the Kurds continued as Turkey began to fire on Syrian forces, and Turkey's President Tayyip Recep Erdogan did not rule out a ground attack inside Syria.        http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/7453/us-russia-syria-realignment

Cuba's Dissident Crackdown Peaks Ahead of
nObama's Historic Visit
  Ezra Fieser  Christine Jenkins

.
{bloomberg.com} ~ Even some supporters of President Barack nObama’s moves to strengthen relations with Cuba are questioning the timing of his planned visit to the Communist island next month... after arrests of dissidents by Raul Castro’s government reached a five-year high. nObama vowed Thursday that he’ll promote human rights during his historic visit, the first by a sitting American president since 1928. But more than a year of warming relations between the nations, separated by just 90 miles, have so far failed to slow the Cuban government’s crackdown on political dissidents. The Madrid-based Cuban Observatory on Human Rights said 1,474 people, including 512 women, were “arbitrarily” detained in January. The arrests have been climbing since the December 2014 announcement that the two governments would improve ties.        http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-02-18/cuba-s-dissid...

This Government Agency Offends the Constitution
and Needs to Be Eliminated
 Alden Abbott
.
.
{dailysignal.com} ~ A little-known federal government agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, imposes enormous costs on consumers and financial service providers through costly and unwarranted command-and-control regulation... What’s more, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau runs afoul of the constitutionally mandated separation of powers. Thus, both economic and constitutional concerns indicate that it is time for Congress to abolish the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and reallocate those of its functions that merit being retained to other existing federal regulatory agencies.  Creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was a key feature of the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010, which, as Heritage scholars have explained, represents a failed attempt to address the causes of the 2008 financial crisis in fact, it makes future financial crises and bailouts more likely.       http://dailysignal.com/2016/02/16/this-government-agency-offends-th...

nObama the Obstructionist
 Katrina Trinko
.
{dailysignal.com} ~ What a shock. Now that he’s at the White House—and facing GOP opposition to appointing a new Supreme Court justice in the mere months before a new president is elected... President Barack nObama seems to have changed his tune a decade after serving as a U.S. senator. As we detail in the below video, nObama used to think it was appropriate for senators including himself to block judicial nominees. In fact, he filibustered Justice Samuel Alito’s confirmation to the Supreme Court along with circuit court nominees Janice Rogers Brown, William Pryor, and Leslie Southwick. But White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday that nObama sees things a little differently now. Speaking about filibustering Alito’s nomination, Earnest said, per The Hill, “That is an approach the president regrets.” Thats a lie.        http://dailysignal.com/2016/02/18/obama-the-obstructionist/?utm_sou...

slump-Trump Accused Of
Financially Threatening Woman
Suing slump-Trump University

.
.
{lidblog.com} ~ Court papers reveal that Donald slump-Trump is accused of threatening to financially ruin a former student of slump-Trump University who is suing the Billionaire Bloviator for fraud... In 2005, slump-Trump opened slump-Trump University, a for-profit but non-accredited school where he would bestow his industry expertise upon the masses — aka anyone who forked over up to $60,000. That same year, he licensed his name to an affiliate program called the slump-Trump Institute. slump-Trump University wasn’t a real school it a series of real estate workshops in hotel ballrooms around the country. In 2010, four students sued the “university” for “offering classes that amounted to extended ‘infomercials,’ ‘selling non-accredited products,’ and ‘taking advantage of these troubled economic times to prey on consumer’s fears.’” 2011 saw the enterprise go belly up and in 2013, the New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman sued slump-Trump and slump-Trump University for allegedly defrauding students. In three pending lawsuits, including one in which the New York attorney general is seeking $40 million in restitution, former students allege that the enterprise bilked them out of their money with misleading advertisements. http://lidblog.com/trump-accused-of-financially-threatening-woman-s...

Americans Oppose Invasion
– Why Can’t We Stop It?
 Rick Wells
.
.
{rickwells.us} ~ The South Carolina GOP primary provided a chance to harvest information aside from simply which candidate the Republican voters prefer... The American people are watching as their country is being destroyed, our sovereignty eroded and our borders erased under the regime of Hussein nObama and his henchmen, Jeh Johnson at DHS and John hanoi-Kerry at the State Department. The record turnout provided an unprecedented opportunity to poll the average South Carolinian to get a feel for where they stand on several issues, two of them relating to foreigners entering and remaining in our country. On the issue of illegal aliens, individuals who have no right to be in the United States and do so in violation of our federal immigration laws, over forty percent of the voters favored deportation. As for a temporary pause on the immigration of people from Muslim countries, the sentiment is strongly in favor of such an action, with 73 percent indicating support for such a freeze and only 24 percent against the idea. The numbers in New Hampshire were similar, with 65 percent favoring a pause.       http://rickwells.us/archives/26377

Chilling Details: Hamas Plot to
Assassinate Netanyahu in Terror Attack
 Ruthie Blum
.
.
{algemeiner.com} ~ Details of a thwarted Hamas-hatched plan to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were revealed for the first time on Sunday, after a two-month interrogation of the suspects involved, the Hebrew news site Walla reported... According to the report, the plot was made public with the Attorney General’s indictment last month of two of the terrorists, including the head of the cell, a 25-year-old from Kfar Yassuf in the West Bank who had rented an apartment in the Abu Dis neighborhood of east Jerusalem. Ahmed Azzam was in the advanced stages of establishing Hamas infrastructure in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, with funding and direction from Hamas in Gaza, the indictment said. To this end, he had purchased chemical materials and rented the apartment in east Jerusalem, where he set up an explosives lab. Also, according to the indictment, Azzam recruited the terrorist who was tasked with transporting the bombs beyond the Green Line.        http://www.algemeiner.com/2016/02/21/chilling-details-emerge-from-t...

Palestinians: hanoi-Kerry and
the Game of Obfuscation
Khaled Abu Toameh
.
Palestinian Authority leaders, official television, schools and media outlets often display maps showing Palestine stretching from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea. The maps do not show the existence of Israel.
.
{gatestoneinstitute.org} ~ U.S. Secretary of State John hanoi-Kerry is back in town. This time he is meeting with Jordanian and Palestinian leaders about "ongoing security issues in the region and continued tensions between Israel and the Palestinians."... For those not involved in political newspeak, here is a translation: "Ongoing security issues" = the Islamic State terror group (ISIS). "Tensions between Israel and the Palestinians" = the ongoing wave of Palestinian stabbing, car-ramming and shooting attacks that began October 2015. Jordan and the Palestinian Authority (PA) fighting ISIS? Now that's an idea! Jordanian King Abdullah and PA President Mahmoud Abbas ending "tensions" between Israel and the Palestinians? Let's think about that.        http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/7480/palestinians-john-kerry

The Growing Threat of ISIS Unleashing a
Weapon of Mass Destruction
 James Phillips
.
.
{dailysignal.com} ~ The apocalyptic ideology that propels the Islamic State (also known as ISIS) is by now well known. Much less widely known are the use of chemical weapons by ISIS in Iraq and Syria... and the disappearance of radioactive materials in Iraq that could be used in a “dirty bomb,” a radiological weapon of mass destruction (WMD). Reuters reported the disappearance of 10 grams of a “highly dangerous” radioactive isotope used to test oil and gas pipelines in southern Iraq, which Iraqi authorities fear may have fallen into the hands of ISIS. The Iridium-192 material, classified as a Category 2 radioactive source, could permanently injure people exposed to it for only a few hours, or kill people exposed to it longer. The radioactive isotope was stolen in November from a storage facility in the southern city of al-Zubair, which is more than 300 miles away from ISIS-controlled territory. But ISIS has launched attacks nearby.    http://dailysignal.com/2016/02/19/the-growing-threat-of-isis-unleas...

Expert: U.S. military could topple
like Jenga blocks
 Bob Unruh
.
.
{wnd.com} ~ An expert on military preparedness says the United States armed forces could topple like a Jenga block tower if President nObama’s social agenda is allowed to continue... “If the nObama administration continues to remove resources from the Jenga block tower’s base, while loading burdens of social engineering on the top, the structure will become increasingly unstable and eventually fall,” contends a new report from the Center for Military Readiness, referring to the block-stacking game. CMR is run by Elaine Donnelly, who was appointed by Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger to the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services. Later, President George H.W. Bush appointed her to the Presidential Commission on the Assignment of Women in the Armed Forces. She also the author of “Constructing the Co-Ed Military” and wrote a chapter called “Defending the Culture of the Military,” published by the Air Force University Press in 2010 in the book “Attitudes Are Not Free – Thinking Deeply About Diversity in the U.S. Armed Forces.”        http://mobile.wnd.com/2016/02/expert-u-s-military-could-topple-like...

Hilly's Manservants, Exposed
Brent Bozell
.
.
{townhall.com} ~ Liberals who remember "Doonesbury" surely recall the joke about George H. W. Bush pledging to "put his manhood in a blind trust" so he could be Ronald Reagan's vice president. But when it comes to covering Hilly Clinton, reporters now have been exposed putting their own manhood in a blind trust. It turns out they submit to orders made by her longtime publicist, Philippe Reines.
.
They have tossed aside all vestiges of objective journalism -- in fact, journalism itself -- to please the boss.
.
It's an ugly set of transactions, conducted in secret. To try and gain access to the very inaccessible Clinton, flattery is one method, but press dictated by the campaign is the real coin of the realm.
.
Gawker used the Freedom of Information Act to get to the exchanges between reporters and Reines, the Hilly Clinton gatekeeper. Their new find is Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic, who has worked in the political-news departments at ABC and CBS. The headline: "This Is How Hilly Clinton Gets the Coverage She Wants."
.
In July 2009, Hilly was delivering a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations. Ambinder wanted an advance copy of the speech, a normal request, sometimes granted, sometimes not. Reines had a novel response. He insisted on conditions. "You must describe her tone as 'muscular,' and you must note that her most prominent underlings at the State Department George Mitchell, Richard Holbrooke would be seated in front of her to convey her command of the staff."
.
"Got it," Ambinder shot back. Later that day, he published a story doing Clinton's bidding right at the top, touting a "muscular speech" Clinton would deliver that day in front of her rival "power centers" in the State Department.
.
Mike Allen at Politico and Mark Landler at The New York Times also used copy that showed Reines was orchestrating Clinton's press clips with them as well. Both reporters used the adjective "muscular" and both cited the other envoys in front of her. They needed to stay on Team Hilly.
.
Ambinder never stopped being a lap dog. Days later, he emailed Reines to coo over a "Meet the Press" appearance: "She kicked A on MTP." A 2010 email from Ambinder to Reines on a press conference covering the WikiLeaks outrages oozed: "This is an awesome presser. ... She is PITCH f#$*& PERFECT on this stuff."
.
When contacted by Gawker, Ambinder pleaded that this was an "incomplete" record:
.
"The exchange is probably at best an incomplete record of what went down. That said, the transactional nature of such interactions always gave me the willies. ... At no point at The Atlantic did I ever feel the pressure to make transactional journalism the norm."
.
The Atlantic added this lame note on their website above Ambinder's 2009 piece: "On February 9, 2016, Gawker called the reporting of this post into question. It is The Atlantic's policy never to cede to sources editorial control of the content of our stories."
.
No it's not. That answer is about as honest as The Atlantic's reporting.
.
Last November, Gawker exposed Mike Allen at Politico emailing Reines offering to host Chelsea Clinton at a very cozy Politico brunch: "No one besides me would ask her a question, and you and I would agree on them precisely in advance. ... The interview would be "no-surprises'."

JUST IN->  Pelosi Announces House Resolution To Condemn Trump’s ‘Racist, Xenophobic Tweets’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced Monday that Democrats will offer a resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s “racist” tweets against Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Pelosi wrote a letter to House Democrats announcing that they will draft a resolution to condemn Trump’s “racist” tweets against progressive Democrats.

“This weekend, the President went beyond his own low standards using disgraceful language about Members of Congress,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote.

“This morning, the President doubled down on his attacks on our four colleagues suggesting they apologize to him,” she added. “Let me be clear, our Caucus will continue to forcefully respond to these disgusting attacks.”

President Trump taunted the “squad” of far-left first-term progressive Democrats on Sunday, telling them to go back and fix the places they came from before telling the rest of the country what to do.

Trump’s tweets caused an uproar amongst the media and Hollywood celebrity classes, and now, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D–TX) hopes to capitalize on the president’s message by condemning them in Congress.

Lee said she will draft a resolution of condemnation.

“Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee will be drafting a Resolution of Condemnation for the words used by President Trump about four members of the House of Representatives over the weekend,” Jackson Lee’s office wrote:

Donald J. Trump  @realDonaldTrump

....it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

President Trump’s remarks seemed particularly directed at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who is a former Somalian refugee.

Omar said Friday that the president “shouldn’t be in office” and told an audience of high school students that America was failing to uphold its promise to be a just society.

Rep. Omar said Trump was “stoking white nationalism” after he tweeted that some progressive congresswomen should “go back” to where they came from.

“You are stoking white nationalism because you are angry that people like us are serving in Congress and fighting against your hate-filled agenda,” Omar wrote:

Ilhan Omar  @IlhanMN

As Members of Congress, the only country we swear an oath to is the United States.

Which is why we are fighting to protect it from the worst, most corrupt and inept president we have ever seen. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1150381394234941448

“America's answer to the intolerant man is diversity, the very diversity which our heritage of religious freedom has inspired.” -RFK

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez claimed Monday that President Trump’s remarks serve as the “hallmark language of white supremacists.”

President Trump tweeted Monday that Democrats need to apologize for the “foul language” and “terrible things they have said”:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our Country, the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President, for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said. So many people are angry at them & their horrible & disgusting actions!

Donald J. Trump  @realDonaldTrump

If Democrats want to unite around the foul language & racist hatred spewed from the mouths and actions of these very unpopular & unrepresentative Congresswomen, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I can tell you that they have made Israel feel abandoned by the U.S.
