DHS to build 20-mile wall along border in New Mexico

{ washingtontimes.com } ~ Homeland Security began building a border wall in New Mexico on Monday... moving to replace vehicle barriers with a modern fence that will deter pedestrians attempting to cross in the remote desert west of El Paso. The 20-mile project has been on the books for some time and the contract was awarded Jan. 22, meaning it was finalized before the recent fight over border wall money in the new 2018 spending bill. But the administration says it wouldn’t have been built but for President Trump’s push for more border wall. “We need effective barriers to deny the entry of illegal aliens and contraband,” said Aaron A. { washingtonexaminer.com } ~ FBI agents raided the office of President Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen on Monday... at the request of special counsel Robert Mueller, Cohen's attorney said. The New York Times reported that the raid collected documents related to Cohen's October 2016 payment of $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels, who says she had an affair with Trump. Cohen claims he paid Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, without Trump's knowledge, amid questions about whether the payoff is an illegal campaign contribution. { dailycaller.com } ~ Dan Crenshaw was on patrol in Helmand province of Afghanistan in 2012 when an IED blast ripped through his body... Crenshaw, a Navy SEAL, was medevaced out of the area and put into a medically induced coma. When he awoke, he was totally blind. Doctors told him he would never see again. Were it not for undergoing risky, experimental treatment — he might not have. Crenshaw regained sight in one eye but lost the other. The major physical setback could not stop Crenshaw. He redeployed, taking the fight back to the enemy even though he was one eye down. When he returned home to Texas, Crenshaw married the woman of his dreams, enrolled at Harvard and remained living the American dream. Even thought the Taliban took his eye, they could not take his freedom or American spirit. Alan Dershowitz Goes After Robert Mueller

{ dailycaller.com } ~ Harvard professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz appeared on New York’s AM 970, and he had some harsh words for special counsel Robert Mueller... “I don’t think he cares whether he hurts Democrats or Republicans. But he’s a partisan and a zealot.” Dershowitz also said, “Those of us in Boston don’t have such a high regard for Mueller because we remember this story. The government had to pay out tens of millions of dollars because Whitey Bulger, the notorious mass murderer, became a government informer against the mafia.” He told the story of Whitey Bulger, then said the incident is “regarded in Boston as one of the great scandals of modern judicial history. Body of Tennessee double-murder
suspect believed to be found, sheriff says

{ foxnews.com } ~ A body found in a wooded area in Mississippi on Monday is believed to be the remains of a 23-year-old Tennessee man... suspected of killing his mother and friend -- then detailing the murder in a twisted Facebook post. Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson confirmed the body of Casey Lawhorn was found in Vossburg, Miss., the state’s department of public safety said in a news release. The body was located in a wooded area, about 100 yards from where Lawhorn’s vehicle was discovered abandoned on Interstate 59 in Jasper County. The vehicle was located Sunday evening. Lawhorn’s death came a day after a twisted Facebook post detailed the double-murder. “What I did is unforgivable. And prayer is a waste of time, nothing happens after death, but if there is a hell, I'm going to be in the lake of ice at the bottom,” read a post on a Facebook page purportedly belonging to Lawhorn. “However, as I sit here in Mississippi, writing this on the side of I-59 south after my car broke down, what I look forward to is the nothingness after death. I've spent a lot of time thinking about murder, wondering what it feels like. Judge Okays Infringing the Second Amendment
by Nate Jackson: The AR-15 is not protected by the Second Amendment, according to a federal court ruling Friday. In his decision in Worman v. Baker, U.S. District Court Judge William G. Young declared, “Assault weapons and LCMs [large capacity magazines] are not within the scope of the personal right to ‘bear arms’ under the Second Amendment.” Furthermore, he argued, “Because the undisputed facts convincingly demonstrate AR-15s and LCMs are most useful in military service, they are beyond the scope of the Second Amendment … and may be banned.” He insisted, “The test is not the AR-15’s present day popularity but whether it is a weapon ‘most useful in military service.’” You know what else was “most useful in military service”? The single-shot musket, at the time the Bill of Rights was crafted. It’s pathetically laughable to assert that the Founders meant what Young contends. Quite the contrary, the usefulness and popularity of the AR-15 mean that it is the epitome of what the Founders intended to protect. Moreover, Young even acknowledged the difference between the AR-15 and the M-16, if only to dismiss it: “The AR-15 design is almost identical to the M16, except for the mode of firing [emphasis added].” Young should have realized that semiautomatic vs. fully automatic makes all the difference. The fact that these two rifles look alikedoes not trump the fact that they function very differently. The deliberate leftist conflation of the two, simply due to some entirely cosmetic features, is solely for the purpose of undermining Second Amendment rights. We suggest Young take the time to learn the error of his ways.
Young concluded by boasting of his ruling, “Justice Scalia would be proud.” Like Scalia, Young is an appointee of Ronald Reagan, but Young’s claim is outrageous, and if Scalia were alive to correct him, he would hammer this mendacious twisting of his words.
As for Massachusetts’ law, bans on popular semiautomatic rifles with certain cosmetic features that have nothing to do with lethality are merely for show; they do not “save lives” as the state’s attorney general insisted after the ruling. Instead, they rob citizens of a tool useful in actually exercising their constitutional right.
Eventually, the Supreme Court is going to have to stop avoiding gun cases and settle this matter.
