As Barr mulls declassification,
a familiar tune from critics
by Byron York
washingtonexaminer.com } ~ In February 2018, the House Intelligence Committee released the so-called Nunes memo. In four pages, the document, from the committee's then-chairman Rep. Devin Nunes... revealed much of what the public knows today about the FBI's reliance on the Steele dossier in pursuing since-discredited allegations that the Trump campaign and Russia conspired to fix the 2016 election. Specifically, it revealed that the FBI included unverified material from the dossier in applications to a secret spy court to win a warrant to wiretap Trump foreign policy volunteer adviser Carter Page. All that was classified. To release it, the committee appealed to President Trump, who made a declassification order. That is the only way Americans know about the Page warrant. From that knowledge came later revelations about the FBI's use of confidential informants and undercover agents to get information on Trump campaign figures. It is good that the public knows such things, just as it is good that the public knows what is in the dirty cop-Mueller report. But in the days before the Nunes memo was declassified, many of the nation's top current and former intelligence officials, members of Congress, and analysts in the press warned that declassification would do grave damage to American national security. It didn't happen. Now, some of the same people are issuing somber warnings of the damage that will be done if Attorney General William Barr declassifies documents showing what else the nation's law enforcement and intelligence agencies did in the 2016 Trump investigation. In 2018, former CIA Director scumbag/commie-John Brennan said of the Nunes memo: "I never witnessed the type of reckless partisan behavior I am now seeing." Recently, scumbag/commie-Brennan called the Barr declassification project "a reckless, reckless initiative." In 2018, Rep. scumbag-Adam Schiff, of the Intelligence Committee, said the Nunes memo "crosses a dangerous line." Recently, he said the Barr initiative marks "a new and dangerous phase." In 2018, former Attorney General scumbag-Eric Holder called the Nunes memo "unheard of" and "dangerous" and "irresponsible." Recently, he called the Barr initiative "the height of irresponsibility" and "a dangerous precedent." Many others echoed scumbag/comie-Brennan's and scumbag-Schiff's and scumbag-Holder's sentiments. The problem is, they were wrong then, and they are likely wrong again now...   https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/byron-york-as...

Improving the Treatment of Veterans
by Larry Alton
americanthinker.com } ~ Of all people in society, veterans deserve the most respect, yet often receive the least. This is unfortunate and detrimental to the fabric of our nation... And while we can gripe about the state of the VA all we want, it ultimately comes down to how we, as private citizens, treat these individuals. One of the more unfortunate realities of civilized society is the way in which good people let political opinions and beliefs directly affect the way they view and interact with other people. A political belief is often used as grounds and justification for mistreating people and violating their basic human rights. Sometimes the political belief is valid and carries weight, while other times it’s quite petty and shallow – but that’s not the point. The point is that we, as a culture, continue to let our deep-seated political affiliations ransack our common sense. This reality plays out in arenas all across the country, but is perhaps nowhere more striking than in the treatment of veterans who have fought in battles that large segments of the population have disagreed with. The Vietnam War is a great example of this. Millions of Americans were against the Vietnam War -- as were many of the soldiers who were thrust into battle. But these latter individuals had no choice. When their names were called, they responded with obedience and followed the orders they were given -- often doing so with great courage and pride. Yet when they returned home, many Vietnam veterans were greeted with vitriol and disrespect.“We were not honored, but were treated as the face of an unpopular war,” Vietnam veteran Bob Feist recalls. Much of the disrespect was subtle and insinuated, while other actions were quite blatant. Culturally, many vets were given the label of “baby killers.” “We were shamed and embarrassed,” Feist says. “My car with a military base sticker was ‘egged.’ I bought a wig to hide my military haircut.”...

Trump Says Iran Nuclear Deal
Possible as Sanctions Sting
by jpost.com:  U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday a deal with Iran on its nuclear program was possible, crediting economic sanctions for curbing activities... Washington has said are behind a spate of attacks in the Middle East.  "I really believe that Iran would like to make a deal, and I think that's very smart of them, and I think that's a possibility to happen," Trump said during a news conference with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.  "It has a chance to be a great country with the same leadership," Trump said. "We aren't looking for regime change -- I just want to make that clear. We are looking for no nuclear weapons."Tensions have risen between Iran and the United States after this month's attack on oil tankers in the Gulf region. Washington, a firm backer of Tehran's regional rival Saudi Arabia, has blamed the attacks on Iran, which denies the accusations. The United States has deployed a carrier strike group and bombers to the Mideast region and an extra 1,500 troops to the Gulf, prompting fears of a conflict. Trump's comments came after his national security adviser John Bolton said on Saturday that the United States had "deep and serious" intelligence on threats posed by Iran, without providing details. Trump, on a four-day visit to Japan, welcomed Abe's help in dealing with Iran after broadcaster NHK said Japan's leader is considering a trip to Tehran as early as mid-June. Iran said a visit was unlikely in the near future...

Erdoğan's Istanbul Nightmare
by Burak Bekdil
gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ During most of his nearly 17-year-long term as Turkey's leader, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's self-aggrandizing, assertive foreign policy and his Islamist and nationalist one-man-rule... have earned him popularity and votes in a country where  average schooling is a mere 6.5 years. Erdoğan believed -- and made the average Turk believe -- that Turkey is a major world power. He claimed that his rule made miracles in the economy. Therefore, since his Justice and Development Party (AKP) came to power in 2002, he has not lost a single election. Everything was coming up roses all the time. Not anymore. "Who wins Istanbul wins Turkey," has been Erdoğan's dictum since 1994, when he won mayoral elections in Turkey's biggest city home to nearly 15% of Turkey's 57 million voters and accounting for 31% of its GDP. Twenty-five years later, his candidate for mayor of Istanbul, former prime minister Binali Yıldırım, lost in the local election -- the first defeat in Istanbul for Islamists since 1994. Game not yet over, Erdoğan ruled. Upon appeal from the AKP over alleged irregularities, the Supreme Electoral Board, consisting of judges apparently under government pressure, cancelled the election result for Istanbul, suspending the mandate of the opposition candidate, Ekrem Imamoğlu, and setting the date for a re-run on June 23. The Board cancelled the election result on the pretext that some officials serving at the polling stations were not civil servants, as required by the law. "The Board's decision brings Turkish democracy one big step closer to death," wrote Kemal Kirişçi, senior fellow at TÜSİAD, Turkey's biggest business association. Erdoğan may think this is a non-losing bet: he already lost Istanbul and a second loss would not cost him further; and this time there is a chance that he may even win. The opposition's win had come in by a margin of only 13,000 votes in a city with 10.5 million registered voters. But he would be wrong to think so. A second loss for the man who says "who wins Istanbul wins Turkey" would be embarrassing. A win could trigger massive protests that might deepen Turkey's economic woes and discredit Erdoğan even further in the West as an "elected dictator," bringing his image closer to that of his ally, Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro. After the Supreme Electoral Board's ruling, the European Union issued a statement that said...

98 Percent Say scumbag/commie-Brennan Is Obstructing Justice By Fighting Declassification
by Jennie Taer
saraacarter.com } ~ scumbag/commie-John Brennan called upon the Director of National Intelligence and Director of CIA to “stand-up” to DOJ and Attorney General Barr’s Review and President Trump’s Declassification Order...  In an interview with MSNBC, scumbag/commie-Brennan said: “But I do hope that Dan Coats and Gina Haspel stand up to this declassification effort by Mr. Trump. Which really does seem to go into the sensitive files, the very sensitive…would be technical or human source files and to pull out of that information that they may see fit as to defend Mr. Trump. And I implore Dan Coats, Gina Haspel and others to stand-up to this unprecedented act by Mr. Trump who doesn’t understand nor care about the national security concerns of the intelligence community”. Is he scared he and scumbag/liar-nO will be exposed.

Americans Have No Trust in Congress
Thomas Gallatin:  The latest Gallup poll finds that 77% of Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing. The RealClearPolitics average of all the latest polling isn’t much better, as it finds Congress’s disapproval rating at 69.2% overall, with a positive approval rating of just 20.2%. Why is this the case?

As the White House observes:

On January 3, Rep. Nancy Pulosi (D-CA) took over as Speaker of the House for the second time in her career. In the four and a half months since, Americans have gotten another close look at what career politicians do best: anything but solve real problems.

For more than two years, Congressional Democrats excused inaction by attacking President Donald J. Trump every day for a crime he did not commit. The dirty cop-Mueller Report — a 400-page document that cost American taxpayers at least $35 million — recommended no charges against the President. That should have ended the matter.

Instead, Democrats have a new obstruction strategy: weaponize the subpoena powers of Congress to fish for political ammunition to use against the Trump Administration. …

Today, 4 percent of Americans say they have a great deal of trust in Congress. …

Between 1958 and 2015, public trust in Washington plunged from 73 percent to 18 percent.

So on that note, Thursday evening, President Donald Trump authorized Attorney General William Barr to declassify any documents related to the federal government’s surveillance of his campaign in 2016. Clearly, this was a timed response to Pulosi’s vacuous allegation that Trump was engaged in a cover-up — for a crime Democrats have yet to determine. But it also serves to highlight the reason the vast majority of Americans currently hold such an unfavorable view of Congress. Instead of working to solve actual problems facing the country, such as the ongoing border crisis or the nation’s crumbling infrastructure, Pulosi and company have decided to play obstructionist politics.

Trump has therefore called Pulosi’s bluff. He knows she doesn’t have the cards to play. She knows she can’t actually instigate impeachment without seriously endangering her party’s chances of holding onto the House in 2020. Ergo, Pulosi’s ridiculous political game of insisting Trump is guilty of something, while at the same time suggesting that impeachment is a no-go. Is it any wonder Americans have such a dim view of Congress?

JUST IN->  Pelosi Announces House Resolution To Condemn Trump’s ‘Racist, Xenophobic Tweets’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced Monday that Democrats will offer a resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s “racist” tweets against Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Pelosi wrote a letter to House Democrats announcing that they will draft a resolution to condemn Trump’s “racist” tweets against progressive Democrats.

“This weekend, the President went beyond his own low standards using disgraceful language about Members of Congress,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote.

“This morning, the President doubled down on his attacks on our four colleagues suggesting they apologize to him,” she added. “Let me be clear, our Caucus will continue to forcefully respond to these disgusting attacks.”

President Trump taunted the “squad” of far-left first-term progressive Democrats on Sunday, telling them to go back and fix the places they came from before telling the rest of the country what to do.

Trump’s tweets caused an uproar amongst the media and Hollywood celebrity classes, and now, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D–TX) hopes to capitalize on the president’s message by condemning them in Congress.

Lee said she will draft a resolution of condemnation.

“Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee will be drafting a Resolution of Condemnation for the words used by President Trump about four members of the House of Representatives over the weekend,” Jackson Lee’s office wrote:

....it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

President Trump’s remarks seemed particularly directed at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who is a former Somalian refugee.

Omar said Friday that the president “shouldn’t be in office” and told an audience of high school students that America was failing to uphold its promise to be a just society.

Rep. Omar said Trump was “stoking white nationalism” after he tweeted that some progressive congresswomen should “go back” to where they came from.

“You are stoking white nationalism because you are angry that people like us are serving in Congress and fighting against your hate-filled agenda,” Omar wrote:

Ilhan Omar  @IlhanMN

As Members of Congress, the only country we swear an oath to is the United States.

Which is why we are fighting to protect it from the worst, most corrupt and inept president we have ever seen. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1150381394234941448

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez claimed Monday that President Trump’s remarks serve as the “hallmark language of white supremacists.”

President Trump tweeted Monday that Democrats need to apologize for the “foul language” and “terrible things they have said”:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our Country, the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President, for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said. So many people are angry at them & their horrible & disgusting actions!

Donald J. Trump  @realDonaldTrump

If Democrats want to unite around the foul language & racist hatred spewed from the mouths and actions of these very unpopular & unrepresentative Congresswomen, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I can tell you that they have made Israel feel abandoned by the U.S.
