Dems Ignore the Voters on Impeachment

spectator.org } ~ Here’s a news flash for the leftwing politicians, pundits, and unbalanced billionaires who continue to push for the impeachment of President Trump... There is a large group of people living beyond the Beltway, collectively known as “the voters,” which doesn’t share your obsession with removing him from office. Countless polls confirm that the percentage of the electorate that supports impeachment is steadily dwindling. The vast majority of the people who will cast ballots in 2020 want you to stop indulging your nostalgia for Watergate and do something useful. The following passage from the latest Quinnipiac survey explains why: The nation’s economy is “excellent,” 22 percent of American voters say in a Quinnipiac University National Poll today.… Another 49 percent of voters say the economy is “good.” The total 71 percent for “excellent” and “good” is the highest total number for American voter attitudes on the economy in almost 18 years. Some 52 percent of American voters say they are better off financially today than they were in 2016. This echoes a number of other major polls. Gallup, for example, recently reported the following: Americans’ optimism about their personal finances has climbed to levels not seen in more than 16 years, with 69% now saying they expect to be financially better off “at this time next year”… only two percentage points below the all-time high of 71%, recorded in March 1998 at a time when the nation’s economic boom was producing strong economic growth combined with the lowest inflation and unemployment rates in decades. And, despite the comical claims of certain Democratic presidential candidates, it is not a coincidence that this is happening on President Trump’s watch. His predecessor advocated government meddling in the economy at all levels, ever increasing taxes, and endless red tape on business enterprises large and small. This produced a hopelessly anemic economy. Trump’s unapologetic advocacy of capitalism, tax cuts for individuals and businesses, and aggressive deregulation has produced measurable improvements in the lives of real people. Moreover, they know why it is happening now rather than five years ago. Yet the voters are being told that, despite his exoneration by the dirty cop-Mueller investigation, the President must be removed from office. An internet search on “impeachment” will produce countless stories under headlines like, “Trump battles with Democrats as impeachment pressure grows.” Where is this “pressure” coming from? Not from the voters, according to the major polls conducted since the end of March, including one survey that shows a paltry 17 percent support for impeachment. This is deeply confusing to compulsive Trump-haters. Jennifer Rubin, for example, scratches her head and asks, “Why don’t Americans want to impeach Trump?Americans’ heightened aversion to impeachment — 29 percent favor impeachment in the latest Quinnipiac poll, while 66 percent do not — seems unrelated to a belief in President Trump’s innocence or approval of his performance.… So why the reluctance to impeach? There is no definitive answer to the question, but perhaps Trump critics fear Congress won’t be able to do other things if it is enmeshed in impeachment. Rubin might be onto something there, eh? Can you name a single useful accomplishment that can be attributed to the Democrats since they regained the majority in the House of Representatives? As Roll Call points out, “House Democrats are forming a nonbinding habit. For four legislative weeks in a row, the new majority has held votes on resolutions that do not carry the force of law and are designed simply to send a message.” They had the opportunity to work with the President on immigration, and a variety of other issues, but have instead opted to become the party of obstruction, investigations, and… well… impeachment...

Democratic 2020 Candidates Flirt With Unconstitutional Censorship

freebeacon.com } ~  reports today that several 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are looking at ways to tackle the growing problem of white nationalism. That's good!... They also report that some of them are endorsing the idea that the government should regulate speech on social media companies as a means of doing so. That's bad! That's very bad! Most of the quotes from the candidates are vague, likely because they recognize it's basically impossible for Congress to pass a law aiming to diminish the reach of a certain ideology on a private social media platform without blatantly violating the Constitution. lowlife-Kamala Harris for example promised if social media giants allowed white supremacist content, "we are going to hold you accountable as a community," but the campaign "did not specify what holding social media companies accountable would look like." scumbag-Cory Booker's campaign likewise "did not clarify if he’d specifically support regulating social media companies to curb white nationalism." Others are a bit more explicit. "commie-Bernie believes we should not depend on a handful of large corporations to stop the spread of hate in America. We must regulate these platforms to ensure the safety and security of the American people," a commie-Sanders spokesman said. "We’ve largely let these companies be completely unregulated. They’ve been unregulated with respect to our privacy, they’ve been unregulated with respect to the filters they create. They’ve largely been able to get away with any kind of acquisition they want and create avoidably integrated monopolies," says the John Delaney campaign. "So there’s a huge number of issues there that affect the society in lots of ways, and that’s clearly one of the ways how hate is being spread online. "But even the vague statements are phrased in a way to pay lip service to the conceit that it is the job of the president of the United States to do something about hate speech on privately-owned websites. Several Democrats ignored Buzzfeed's requests for comment, but not one responded with the correct but certainly unpopular answer: white nationalist speech is deplorable, but I would take no action in a government capacity to force it off social media...

Why the U.S. Must Counter
China’s Efforts to Isolate Taiwan

freebeacon.com } ~ China seeks to destroy any notion that Taiwan is an independent state by delegitimizing the island, isolating it politically, diplomatically, and economically... And if that does not work, then Beijing is prepared to use military force to unify Taiwan with the mainland. Xi Jinping, China's ambitious and imperial president, said as much in a speech in January. "China must be, and will be, reunified," he said. "We do not forsake the use of force." Xi also described unification as the "great trend of history," an unstoppable wave that will wash away the Taiwanese people's freedom and prosperity without their consent. In short, China wants Taiwan, a vibrant, self-governing democracy, to submit to Beijing's authoritarian and dystopian rule. In Washington, discussions about Taiwan tend to focus on military matters, specifically the prospect of a war between the island and China. It is easy to see why. About seven weeks ago, two Chinese fighter jets crossed the Taiwan Strait's median line, the de facto maritime border between China and Taiwan. In response, the Taiwanese military scrambled fighter planes to intercept the Chinese jets, which continued their incursion for about 10 minutes. Then, just on Wednesday, Taiwan's navy held a major live-fire drill as part of its annual Han Kuang exercises, which simulate an attack by China. Often overlooked, however, are China's non-military efforts to isolate Taiwan, which Beijing hopes will compel Taipei's surrender without a fight. These efforts were on full display in recent days. For the third straight year, China has excluded Taiwan from participating in the World Health Organization's biggest annual gathering, the World Health Assembly. For years, Taiwan was able to send observers to the assembly, but amid rising tensions between Beijing and Tapei, China has launched a concerted effort to block the island from admittance. The gathering is currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland, and will end next week. China's campaign is not only morally outrageous, but also dangerous. Under Chinese pressure, the World Health Organization, or WHO, even rejected Taiwan's offer for help in combating the Ebola epidemic in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. "Our president announced we would donate $1 million U.S. to combat Ebola; but this donation, even this donation was not accepted by the WHO," Taiwan's minister of health and welfare, Chen Shih-chung, told Voice of America. "So, this is a pity in our situation. We want to do something, but WHO did not accept us to do something for the world." VOA noted that WHO estimates it needs $98 million to run its operation to combat Ebola but faces a shortfall of about $63 million. Chen also explained that he has written several letters to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to protest Taiwan's exclusion from the assembly, but has received no response...

spectator.org } ~ President Trump’s leading leftist legal tormentor lacks the legal qualifications to serve as California’s attorney general, according to a lawsuit pending in Golden State courts... The ambulance-chasing radical in question is Xavier Becerra, a Democrat who abandoned the U.S. House of Representatives after 24 years to be sworn in as California’s appointed attorney general on Jan. 24, 2017. Stalwart conservative Eric Early, a Los Angeles attorney who sought the Republican nomination in 2018 in the attorney general race, claims in his lawsuit that state law precludes Becerra from serving because he wasn’t practicing law for anything close to five years prior to his appointment or election to the office. Early lost his case the first time around and filed an appeal this month. “The state’s top legal officer should have at least a modicum of experience as a practicing lawyer,” Early told this writer.“Instead, we have one who has no clue what it’s like to be a practicing lawyer,” he said. “We have ended up with a pure, wall-to-wall politician as our state top legal officer, so it has not been a surprise that since he became attorney general, his agenda has been entirely political.” “We might as well have Nancy Pulosi in our attorney general’s office,” Early said, describing Becerra as “a vessel for the resistance” to Trump’s presidency. Becerra is the fellow who in early 2018, after three state laws became effective that turned California into a so-called sanctuary state, took to the airwaves to threaten to prosecute employers if they cooperated with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials...   https://spectator.org/lawsuit-seeks-to-oust-trump-hating-california-ag-xavier-becerra/?utm_source=American%20Spectator%20Emails&utm_campaign=85aa08a5da-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_05_23_05_00&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_797a38d487-85aa08a5da-104608113

Palestinians: The New Hamas List of 'Traitors'

gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The Palestinian Hamas movement that rules the Gaza Strip has never tolerated any form of criticism. It does not accept any criticism from Palestinians living under its rule in the Gaza Strip... It does not accept any criticism from its rivals in the Palestinian Authority (PA) and its ruling Fatah faction. It certainly does not accept any criticism from Israel or the United States. Now, Hamas is saying that it does not tolerate any criticism from Arabs. Hamas claims that Palestinian Authority and Fatah leaders who dare to speak out against it are "traitors" and "collaborators" working with the "Zionist enemy." Arab media personalities who recently criticized Hamas and its allies in the Gaza Strip have now been placed on its list of "traitors" and "collaborators." Recently, some Arabs, particularly in the Gulf states, Lebanon and Egypt, have spoken out publicly against Hamas and held it responsible for the continued suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. These Arabs, in other words, have dared to speak the truth about Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the two major forces in the Gaza Strip. One of those Arabs is Nadim Koteich, a prominent Lebanese journalist, who recently accused Islamic Jihad of starting the last round of fighting with Israel. In an interview with the Lebanese LDC TV channel, Koteich said that Hamas and Islamic Jihad, representing the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran respectively, should have turned the Gaza Strip after Israel's withdrawal in 2005 into an opportunity for a Palestinian national compromise. Instead, he said, the two groups have "thwarted all opportunities for peace and have ended up in a prison called Gaza." This logical and constructive criticism of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, however, has sparked a wave of vicious condemnations against the Lebanese journalist on various Palestinian and Arab social media platforms. Koteich only spoke the truth, particularly his remark about a missed opportunity after the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. Back then, some Palestinians were dreaming of turning the Gaza Strip into the "Singapore of the Middle East."...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14251/palestinians-hamas-traitors

U.S. Can Manage the Threat of Iranian Terrorism; Iran's People Can Eliminate It

Ken Blackwell

Earlier this month, a bipartisan group of over 50 members of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced Resolution 374, highlighting the Iranian regime’s persistent support for terrorism. The resolution expresses “support for the Iranian people’s desire for a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic of Iran.”

It “calls on relevant … agencies to work with European allies” and to help “prevent the malign activities of the Iranian regime’s diplomatic missions, with the goal of closing them down, including the Iranian embassy in Albania.”

As justification for this goal, it cites three of the several Iranian terror plots that were discovered and foiled by Western authorities over the course of last year across Europe and North America. These plots have been reliably identified as part of an escalating pattern of provocation by the Iranian regime, and they certainly call for a proportional response from the U.S.

The White House has acted accordingly, with the repeated imposition of new sanctions, as well as the unprecedented designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. The listing may set the stage for Washington to take relevant action against the additional infrastructure of Tehran’s terrorism.

President Trump and his national-security team, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton, have done a superb job in holding Iranian rulers accountable for their outlaw behavior and should advance the same path as the only effective way to end the Iran threat.

H.Res.374 also emphasizes the role that the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) in the pursuit of terrorist actions such as the attempted bombing of the main opposition’s Free Iran gathering in Paris on June 30 of last year. That event was attended by dozens of high-profile dignitaries from the United States and Europe, among many other counties around the world. The thwarted plot served to expose the willingness of the MOIS not only to target Iranian dissidents on foreign soil but to also attack Western citizens directly. A recent detailed report, “Iran’s Emissaries of Terror,” published by the U.S. representative office of the main opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI-US) in Washington, clearly shows that MOIS terror plots enjoy the full collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tehran’s foreign minister, Javad Zarif.

Under Zarif’s watch, in 2018 alone, five Iranian diplomats were expelled by France, the Netherlands, and Albania for harming European security. Another high-ranking diplomat is currently in jail in Belgium for allegedly delivering a powerful bomb to two other MOIS culprits to bomb an opposition rally in Paris. Several other Iranian agents who worked with diplomatic missions have been imprisoned, including two in the United States.

Despite such mind-boggling terrorist intervention in Europe and the U.S., Zarif travels to New York and Europe posing as a victim of U.S. policy of firmness. So much for hypocrisy! If Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani, and Zarif want to see an end to Tehran’s international isolation, the path is clear: Abide by the 12 points announced by the United States and act like a normal government instead of a pathological theocracy bent on using terrorism as the primary instrument of statecraft.

The EU has finally acted by including the MOIS Internal Security Division and two of its known operatives on the multinational body’s list of terrorist organizations.

Many advocates of the status quo have argued that the IRGC blacklisting and other sanctions have increased the potential for war (an argument that Zarif has borrowed). But it is far more likely that these actions have prevented successful attacks on Western personnel, to say nothing of Iranian activists pushing for a democratic future in their homeland.

In the long run, it is these activists alone, backed by the Iranian people, who will provide a guarantee for peace. The Paris bomb plot and other recent plans by the MOIS and the IRGC make it clear that the existing dictatorship is committed to terrorism. The answer is democratic change by the Iranian people.

The recent House resolution reflects growing confidence among Western lawmakers and Iranian activists that such change is forthcoming. It points, for instance, to a mass uprising, which began at the end of 2017 and spawned countless protests across Iran throughout 2018. In many cases, those demonstrations showcased the widespread and growing support for Iran’s organized democratic movement.

As Resolution 374 explains, opposition leader Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan “calls for the universal right to vote, free elections, and a market economy, and advocates gender, religious, and ethnic equality, a foreign policy based on peaceful coexistence, and a non-nuclear Iran.”

The U.S. must make the MOIS subject to the same blacklist as the IRGC, and Tehran must be compelled to cease using diplomatic institutions as cover for terrorism.

Diplomatic and economic pressure on the regime will indeed serve to manage components of the regime’s terrorism. Iran’s people, however, led by their organized opposition, can eliminate it once and for all.
