freebeacon.com } ~ Iran's paramilitary fighting force has been running a multi-million-dollar illicit weapons smuggling program in Iraq, according to new disclosures by the Trump administration... which issued a bevy of sanctions on Wednesday aimed at disrupting the arms network. The Trump administration Treasury Department announced new sanctions on an Iraq-based arms network being operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Tehran's elite fighting force that recently was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. The arms network "has trafficked hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of weapons to IRGC-Quds Force-backed Iraqi militias," according to an announcement by the Treasury Department. The disclosure of this arms network comes amid growing tensions between the Trump administration and Tehran over the country's global terror operations and efforts to work with Europe on plots to skirt tough new U.S. economic sanctions. In response to these economic penalties, Iran has boosted its contested nuclear work and sought to arm regional militant groups, such as those operating in Iraq. "Treasury is taking action to shut down Iranian weapons smuggling networks that have been used to arm regional proxies of the IRGC Quds Force in Iraq, while personally enriching regime insiders," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement announcing the arms network. "The Iraqi financial sector and the broader international financial system must harden their defenses against the continued deceptive tactics emanating from Tehran in order to avoid complicity in the IRGC's ongoing sanctions evasion schemes and other malign activities." The arms network is directly tied to IRGC Commander Qasem Soleimani, who has led Iran’s terror operations in Syria and elsewhere. Using a financial conduit called South Wealth Resources Company (SWRC), Iran has funneled scores of weapons to Iraqi militias targeting U.S. and coalition forces in the region...

House Committee Votes to Prohibit
Low-Yield Nuclear Weapons on Submarines

news.usni.org } ~ The House Armed Services Committee added several provisions to its annual defense authorization bill... but the among most contentious was if the Pentagon should develop a low-yield nuclear weapon to deploy on nuclear ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs). Support for and arguments against the strategic forces subcommittee mark of the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act prohibiting the Navy from deploying low-yield atomic weapons on SSBNs broke along party lines. Prohibiting the Navy from deploying with low-yield nuclear weapons puts the U.S. at a disadvantage, Republican committee members said, because Russia is believed to be developing and deploying smaller warheads. Russia, the argument goes, could be encouraged to use these smaller nuclear weapons if its leaders think the U.S. will be reluctant to respond if their only options were larger atomic weapons. In contrast, Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), the HASC chair, said the U.S. needs to let Russia and any other nuclear power understand escalation leads to escalation, and the U.S. response to the use of nuclear weapons will be swift and profound. “We don’t care about a fair fight. We’re going to kick their ass if they take us on,” Smith said. “So, why we’re obsessing about a proportional response, I don’t know.” Prohibiting the Navy from deploying with low-yield nuclear weapons is really about protecting the integrity of the nation’s nuclear triad – which along with sub-launched missiles, includes land-based and air-launched nukes, said Rep. Jim Cooper, (D-Tenn.), chair of the strategic forces subcommittee. The U.S. Air Force already has a stockpile of low-yield nuclear weapons, so the U.S. leadership still has options for a comparable response, if desired. However, the underlying notion of the prohibition is taking away an option, Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas), the HASC ranking member said...These Reps need to get their heads out of the sand and see what China is doing as well as Russia.

freebeacon.com } ~ China conducted a flight test of its newest strategic submarine-launched missile, the JL-3, coinciding with the visit to Asia earlier this month by Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan... American defense officials confirmed that U.S. intelligence agencies assessed the June 2 flight test off the coast of northern China to be a JL-3 missile, Beijing's newest underwater intercontinental nuclear missile. The flight test appeared timed to the speech at a Singapore defense conference a day earlier by Shanahan, who issued a harsh rebuke of Chinese bullying and hegemony in the South China Sea and elsewhere in Asia. The missile was launched from a submarine test platform located in the Bohai Sea and flew west to an impact range in western China. The flight test was reported in several Chinese online outlets, including the major commercial web portal Sina, as a JL-3 with a range of up to 7,400 miles. One report on Sina Military stated that the JL-3 flight test included the use of a hypersonic glide vehicle—the ultra-high-speed maneuvering missile warhead designed to defeat U.S. missile defenses. The defense officials said they were unable to confirm that the latest test involved a hypersonic last stage to the JL-3. The JL-3 is expected to carry multiple, independently targetable reentry vehicles—warheads capable of targeting numerous cities. A Pentagon spokesman declined to comment on the latest test. The first flight test of the new missile was first reported by the Washington Free Beacon in December...

foxnews.com } ~ Two oil tankers were damaged in a suspected attack off the Gulf of Oman early Thursday, prompting the rescue of dozens of crew members... The U.S. Navy's  Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet told Reuters it was assisting two tankers in the Gulf of Oman after receiving two distress calls. Details of the incident were unclear, but one of the operators made an unconfirmed report that a torpedo had hit its ship, Reuters reported."We are aware of the reported attack on tankers in the Gulf of Oman. U.S. Naval Forces in the region received two separate distress calls at 6:12 a.m. local time and a second one at 7:00 a.m.,'' Joshua Frey of the Fifth Fleet said. The Fleet did not blame anyone for the attack. One of the vessels involved was identified as the MT Front Altair, a Marshall Islands-flagged but Norwegian-owned crude oil tanker carrying naphtha, a petrochemical product, to Japan. Dramatic images and video of the Altair were subsequently released by Iranian state media.  International Tanker Management, which operates the MT Front Altair said an explosion had caused a fire onboard.  The firm told the Associated Press the incident is still being investigated and it was unclear what caused the explosion. Its 23 crew members were evacuated by the nearby South Korean-based Hyundai Dubai Vessel and are now safe, the firm said. Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency, IRNA, claimed the Front Altair had sunk, but the Norwegian shipping firm Frontline said it was still afloat...

The Suppressed Plight of Palestinian Christians

{gatestoneinstitute.org} ~ At a time when Christians throughout the Muslim world are suffering from a variety of persecution, the plight of Palestinian Christians is seldom heard... It exists. Open Doors, a human rights group that follows the persecution of Christians, notes  that Palestinian Christians suffer from a "high" level of persecution, the source of which is, in its words, "Islamic Oppression": "Those who convert to Christianity from Islam, however, face the worst Christian persecution and it is difficult for them to safely participate in existing churches. In the West Bank they are threatened and put under great pressure, in Gaza their situation is so dangerous that they live their Christian faith in utmost secrecy....The influence of radical Islamic ideology is rising, and historical churches have to be diplomatic in their approach towards Muslims." That said, while reports of the persecution of Christians emanate regularly from other Muslim majority regions around the world — Pakistan, Egypt, and Nigeria as three examples — little is mentioned of those Christians living under the Palestinian Authority. Why is that? Is it because they experience significantly less persecution than their coreligionists around the Muslim world? Or is it because of their unique situation — living in a hotly contested arena with much political and media wrangling in the balance? "The Persecution of Christians in the Palestinian Authority," a new report by Dr. Edy Cohen, published by the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies on May 27, goes a long way in answering these questions. First, it documents three recent anecdotes of persecution of Christians, none of which was reported by the so-called "mainstream media"...    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14358/palestinian-christians-persecution

Trump Policies Lifting Blacks, and
They're Noticing

Louis DeBroux:  Forget the regular Leftmedia polls. The findings of multiple election-prediction models sent shock waves through Democrat ranks recently, with every model predicting President Donald Trump will win reelection in 2020.

Steven Rattner, former economic adviser to Barack scumbag/liar-nObama, reported on the findings of Yale professor Ray Fair’s model, which correctly predicted scumbag/liar-nObama’s electoral victories in 2008 and 2012, even forecasting the popular-vote share within 0.6%.

That same model now predicts Trump winning with 56% of the vote in 2020. In a dozen models reviewed by Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi, Trump wins in every one.

If that turns out to be the case, it will likely be in part because of an increased percentage of the black vote for President Trump. In 2016, Donald Trump garnered just 8% of the black vote; double the percentage won by rino-John McCain in 2008, and 50% more than rino-Mitt Romney in 2012.

But that was before he took office and began implementing his America-first, economy-boosting policies. These policies are the “magic wand” scumbag/liar-nObama couldn’t find; policies resulting in the lowest unemployment rate in half a century, and the lowest black unemployment rate ever recorded. Prior to President Trump, black unemployment had fallen below 7% just once in U.S. history. As of May, it had been below 7% for 15 straight months.

It was also President Trump who signed the GOP’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, creating Opportunity Zones that incentivize private investment in disadvantaged communities plagued by poverty and crime, populated most often by minority households.

These policies have translated into nearly 1.5 million black Americans gainfully employed who were out of work under scumbag/liar-nObama — now lifted out of poverty with a chance to thrive, and to take pride in their financial independence.

President Trump has taken action to lift the black community in other ways as well.

He has received bipartisan praise for signing the FIRST STEP Act, a criminal-justice-reform bill spearheaded by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Under the law, nonviolent offenders can qualify for reduced sentences by participating in programs that teach them basic life skills, with the goal of ending the revolving door of repeat offenders.

The bill, now law, has reduced prison sentences for nonviolent drug offenders by an average of 29.4%, from an average original sentence of 239 months to an average of 166 months.

And it is black prisoners who have disproportionately benefited from the reforms. Of the 1,051 requests for reduced sentences approved in the first four months since the law was enacted, 91.3% of those were for black inmates, and 98% were men.

But even that does not tell the whole story. At the 2019 Prison Reform Summit, held at the White House in celebration of the FIRST STEP Act, President Trump announced further efforts to help rehabilitate convicts; an initiative to help them find employment and build careers, to reduce recidivism and truly give these former prisoners a shot at being respectable, productive members of society.

With unemployment rates as much as five times higher than the national average, many released prisoners struggle to find employment, which can be demoralizing, and an incentive to return to crime. This law gives them hope for a better future.

In the four months since President Trump signed the bill into law, more than 16,000 inmates have enrolled in drug-treatment programs, and another 500 convicts who received unfair sentences have been released from prison. It should be noted that criminal-justice reform is being enacted at the state level as well, with Republican-led Georgia and Texas leading the way, and Republican-led Florida following suit. Even hard-core progressive and former scumbag/liar-nObama adviser Van Jones admits conservative Republicans are “now the leaders” on criminal-justice reform.

And while Democrats fight tooth and nail against school choice, keeping poor minority children trapped in failing schools, President Trump fought for a $5 billion federal tax credit on donations that fund scholarships to private schools; this proposal is supported by 64% of black Americans.

President Trump also provided unprecedented levels of federal funding for, and created a Presidential Board of Advisors for, HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Johnny C. Taylor, President/CEO Of The Thurgood Marshall College Fund, called this “bittersweet,” explaining that the black college community assumed this would have been “easily accomplished” in the eight years under scumbag/liar-nObama, the first black president; but it never happened. Yet within 45-days of President Trump taking office, all of the HBCU presidents assembled in the Oval Office to watch as Trump signed the executive order making it happen.

So while Democrats continue to accuse President Trump of being a racist, and deny him credit for enacting policies that make the lives of black Americans immeasurably better, many black Americans are taking notice both of Trump’s efforts, and of the Democrat Party’s long history of taking the black vote for granted.

Nse Ufot, executive director of failed Georgia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’s New Georgia Project (which worked to register minority voters in Georgia), said, “Black voters, voters of color, are often treated as an afterthought [by the Democrat Party]. Persuasion that their vote matters … is not an October conversation.”

He’s absolutely right. So maybe it’s time for black voters to take a look at the Republican Party — the party that freed the slaves, passed civil-rights legislation, and is working hard to make black lives better in myriad ways, rather than the Democrat Party that takes 90%+ of their vote and keeps them downtrodden and dependent.   ~The Patriot Post
