 THE ASPARAGUS UPRISING
Fox News: “Police in rural northeastern Germany rushed out to track down a reported mob of up to 15 people armed with knives and sticks. Instead, they found a group of asparagus harvesters. Police in the town of Ludwigslust said a man called their emergency number Saturday to report having seen ‘10 to 15 people armed with knives and sticks’ on a local road. Within minutes, six police cars were on their way to the scene. Officers quickly discovered, however, that the group was asparagus harvesters walking along the road with their work tools as they went to take a lunch break. White asparagus is a popular delicacy in Germany and a ubiquitous sight on restaurant menus in late spring.”  -Fox News

Actor Supports Guns in Schools, Hollywood Goes Hysterical
It takes courage to come out conservative in Hollywood. And actor Vince Vaughn, known for his roles in "assembly-line comedies," has stepped into the political crosshairs. "You think the politicians that run my country and your country don't have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do," Vaughn told UK-based Sky News. "And we should be allowed the same rights. Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won't rid the world of criminality. … In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these ... schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds." Hollywood and UK media quickly labeled Vaughn an idiot. But Charles C. W. Cooke notes that Vaughn's thinking is correct, if a bit underdeveloped, as Vaughn never specifies how he envisions guns in schools. But Vaughn gets the concept of self-defense: “It’s well known that the greatest defense against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back.” Given that Hollywood hypocrites make so much money from gratuitous violence, it's refreshing to hear an actor support the Second Amendment.  -The Patriot Post

May Concludes With 43 Homicides in Baltimore
In recent years, Chicago has been the focal point of attention regarding violence among minorities in large cities, but Baltimore has rocketed up the chain after a record-setting number of homicides in May. Criminal activity jumped following the death of Freddie Gray, and the spree continued on Sunday with three additional felonious deaths. The month ended with a staggering 43 murders, the most of any May and "the deadliest month since the early 1970s, when 44 people were killed in December 1971 and 45 people in August 1972," USA Today reported. Unsurprisingly, the upward swing in homicides is commensurate with a precipitous drop in the number of suspects being apprehended (32% by one estimate). The city has registered 116 homicides year-to-date. And while that may not sound impressive compared to areas like Chicago, on a per-capita-basis Baltimore in its current climate is actually far more dangerous. As Daily Caller contributor Derek Hunter writes, "The 48 murders in Chicago [in May] are disturbing, but the city has a population of 2.7 million people. In the month of May, there was one murder for every 56,250 Chicagoans. Meanwhile in Baltimore, a city with a population of only 622,000, their 43 murders puts them at a rate of one murder for every 14,465 residents." In other words, "Residents of Baltimore were 3.8 times more likely to be murdered than residents of Chicago in the month of May," Hunter concludes. Most alarmingly, imagine the homicide figures in a city like Chicago if it were to experience a Freddie Gray-type incident.  -The Patriot Post

About MSU's Study on 'Far Right' Groups
This is the key question: How do the National Institute of Justice and Michigan State University define "far right" groups? Through the NIJ, the Department of Justice awarded a $585,719 grant to MSU to study how "extremist groups use web forums, social media, and technology to enculturate and radicalize individuals to violence." It's a question worth studying, as the U.S. government currently worries about supposed "lone-wolf" terrorism. While the study aims to analyze extremists' social networks to "identify the hidden networks of individuals who engage in extremist movements based on geographic location and ideological similarities" (which is a good descriptor of Jihadistan), the study will look at three jihadist forums — but four from the "far Right." There are questions about what the nObama administration considers to be dangerous right-wing groups. MSU could be studying the sovereign citizen movement. But in 2009, Mark Alexander warned that nObama's government was warily eyeing the Tea Party movement. In that same year, the Department of Homeland Security thought veterans returning from combat could be dangerous. If MSU wants to remain objective, it should also study the communications of far-Left groups. But then again is objectivity the point? More...  -The Patriot Post

EPA Proposes More Corn for Fuel, Not Food
Compared to this time last year, Americans are paying much less at the gas pump. Enjoy it while you can, though, because gas prices are about to rise. The expected price increase isn't due to chaos in the Middle East or a shortage of fossil fuels. No, it’s due to the Environmental Protection Agency and its newly released proposal to increase ethanol production. By the way, do you like your food bill? Get ready, because that’s about to increase too.
The EPA's proposed three-year ethanol mandate will increase the amount of biofuel mixed into the gasoline supply. This may sound great to supporters of so-called renewable energy, but it’s actually doubling down on a terrible idea.
Why? Well, there are several problems with requiring more ethanol in America's fuel.
First, several gasoline refiners have warned that the proposal “moves more quickly than the market can support.” In 2007, when Congress expanded the Renewable Fuel Standard, only half of all gasoline contained 10% ethanol. Right now, nearly all of the gasoline produced and used in the U.S. contains 10% ethanol. However, the decrease in demand for gasoline due to more fuel-efficient vehicles means a corresponding decrease in demand for ethanol. The EPA would rather ignore reality and aims to increase ethanol production anyway.   -The Patriot Post

Free speech opponents enforce Islamic law, challenge our freedoms
(Retired Adm. James A. Lyons) ~ The First Amendment to our Constitution states... “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” It is these words of this First Amendment that make America different from every other country in the world. However, all too frequently we are now seeing these cherished rights come under attack by not only Islamic totalitarian regimes, but also the West’s politically correct activists and progressive fellow travelers. The takeaway: Don’t criticize or take a position that might “offend” the seventh-century sensibilities of the followers of Islam, who view our freedoms of expression as heresy. According to the politically correct activists, it is better to submit than to offend the followers of Islam, who might get violent and go on a “justifiable” rampage. I say to them all, leave, go back from where you came from if you can't obey our rules and laws.       http://www.aim.org/guest-column/free-speech-opponents-enforce-islamic-law-challenge-our-fundamental-freedoms/?utm_source=AIM+-+Daily+Email&utm_campaign=email060315&utm_medium=emai

Senator Wants RICO Climate Investigation – Start With Him
(rickwells.us) ~ Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) is a liar, a blowhard and a Marxist agitator. He’s a global warming alarmist who promotes unsubstantiated hysteria as climate science in the conduct of the greatest fraud ever perpetrated upon mankind... He’s attacking the American people, our sovereignty and our Constitution in the furtherance of the elite criminal operation, a conspiracy he is engaged in with the nObama regime and the United Nations as well as the globalist oligarchy which controls the United States. He recently wrote an article published in the Washington Post in which he makes the argument in favor of prosecuting Democrat climate conspirators. That wasn’t his intent, he was actually targeting climate realists, but his points fit perfectly into a case against the Democrats and their subversive conspiracy against the United States. If there ever was a case for RICO, the climate change hoax is it. Citizens of RI, re-elect another Senator who is a conservative.        http://rickwells.us/senator-wants-rico-climate-investigation-start-with-him-and-crony-alarmist-profiteers/

It’ll Never Work – More Eeyore Jeh Johnson Failures
(rickwells.us) ~ In its recently released Semiannual Report to the Congress, the DHS Inspector General reported that ICE “no longer supervises some ISAP participants.’ ISAP is an acronym for the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program... a program which they revealed to be much less intense than the name would indicate. According to the report, DHS admits that they no longer track some foreigners that they have chosen to release back into the communities of America. The reasons are the same we’ve heard from Secretary Jeh Johnson, the human Eeyore, more times than we can recall. Excuses like, “It’ll never work because we have to prioritize, it’ll never work because we don’t have the funding,” or “It’ll never work because we’re taking over the United Statesand this is our invading, occupying force.” ISAP is little more than an honor system with a promise to appear for a deportation hearing and an ankle bracelet, both easily broken.   http://rickwells.us/itll-never-work-more-eeyore-jeh-johnson-failures-come-to-light-in-dhs-honor-amnesty-system/

AG Lynch – Dems Not Responsible For City Crime, Schools Are
(rickwells.us) ~ What is happening with the parasitic urban centers of America is that, in spite of their incessant failures, the socialist Democrats continue to be supported and subsidized under a false humanitarian label by the producers of America... It is federal wealth redistribution from those who are willing to work and do what it takes to find a job wherever they can find one, to those who prefer to sit on the couch and watch Oprah. They might be persuaded to take a job if an employer walked up to their door with an offer, but it had better be a good one. If the Democrats in charge had chosen to become doctors they’d be guilty of malpractice and be standing amid heaping piles of corpses. Having chosen political careers, they are still guilty of malpractice and feeding a massive body count. Marxism doesn’t work but a misdiagnosis of the problem will hide the true root cause. Attorney General Loretta Lynch blames the public schools, who are dealing with a lack of discipline and respect for policies and the law from their hoodlum students. It is they, she claims, who are at fault for eliminating the offenders from their populations in the interest of educating the other students and their safety.        http://rickwells.us/ag-loretta-lynch-democrats-not-responsible-for-inner-city-crime-the-schools-did-it/

Top House Republican: Oil exports 'can be a win'
(Zack Colman) ~ House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton issued his strongest comments yet about lifting the U.S. ban on crude oil exports Tuesday, but stopped short of endorsing the end of the 40-year-old policy... "Oil exports can be a win for the American people and a win for our allies," the Michigan Republican said at a committee hearing, later adding, "The case for creating more jobs by expanding the market for American oil is a key reason why oil exports should be on this committee's agenda this year." However, he later told reporters that his comments did not mean he endorses ending the ban. "I stopped short of endorsing the legislation but I think that we need to look at the policy," Upton said. "I carefully wrote those remarks. So I don't want to go beyond that at this point." Why mention it if he didn't want to ban the oil export?       http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/top-house-republican-backs-ending-crude-export-ban/article/2565452

Jarrett Pushing Corporations To Support Of Climate Change Summit
(rickwells.us) ~ The brainwashing and behind the scenes manipulation and maneuvering continues within the White House as they press their offensive against the Constitution and the American people through the United Nations under the guise of protecting us from the air and water monsters... The Iranian insider, Valerie Jarrett, with assistance from her climate henchman, Robert Diamond, are enlisting the aid of their corporate comrades in pushing America towards submission to the United Nations this November in Paris. The move is being choreographed to coincide with a Pope Francis climate encyclical and his personal sales trip to New York in September. Since we have already devolved into a largely a fascist-controlled nation at this point, it is important for the regime to enlist the aid of and visibly present a united front with their corporate partners. It’s a move that Jarrett has already begun, as a letter obtained by the Daily Caller, which is reproduced below, clearly shows.   http://rickwells.us/disinformation-campaign-jarrett-pushing-corporations-to-pledge-support-of-climate-change-summit/

Whistleblower Sheds Light On Billions In Violation Of Federal Law
(Jonah Bennett) ~ A culture of “lawlessness and chaos” reigns at the Department of Veterans Affairs when it comes to purchasing goods and services for the Veterans Health Administration, according to senior official Jan R. Frye... Frye, deputy assistant secretary for acquisition and logistics, first brought to light problems of abuse back in March. He decided to air the information publicly after his 35-page memorandum to VA Secretary Robert McDonald went completely unanswered. The sum total of the chaos amounts to at least $6 billion in wasted funds spent in violation of federal contracting rules, The Washington Post reports.       http://dailycaller.com/2015/05/15/va-whistleblower-sheds-light-on-billions-spent-in-violation-of-federal-law/

While no one's watching, Congress does its worst
(conservativehq.com) ~ Last November, many people were jubilant at the Republican sweep of Congress, assuming that when it came to fiscal issues, our job was done or at least would get far easier... These last few weeks, says our friend Jonathan Bydlak at The Coalition to Reduce Spending, show just how wrong that assumption was. While many grassroots limited government constitutional conservatives and conservative pundits have been focused on the reauthorization of the Patriot Act and the headline grabbing battle over the NSA's domestic spying program the real work of Congress – spending your tax dollars – grinds on. With a newly installed Republican majority that campaigned as fiscal conservatives one would expect big government Democrats to be howling in pain about all the "unfair budget cuts," but unfortunately big government Republicans are doing as much or more spending as would be expected from the Democrats.

The Myth that Republicans are Growing More Extreme
(Matthew Vadum) ~ Today’s Democratic Party makes common cause with the criminals who burn down poor people’s neighborhoods in American cities. And yet the Right is somehow alleged to be more susceptible to “extremism.”... Sharpening her class-warfare guillotine, Hilly Clinton calls for the “toppling” of the one percent. She copycats her potential rival, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), claiming that “the deck is stacked” in favor of the wealthy and powerful. Yet Republicans, who haven’t singled out identifiable social groups for destruction, somehow get tagged as the radicals.        http://www.frontpagemag.com/2015/matthew-vadum/the-myth-that-republicans-are-growing-more-extreme/?utm_source=FrontPage+Magazine&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=3ef83918a0-Mailchimp_FrontPageMag&utm_term=0_57e32c1dad-3ef83918a0-156509103

A summer break from campus muzzling
George F. Will
.
(unionleader.com) ~ COMMENCEMENT SEASON brings a respite from the sinister childishness rampant on campuses. Attacks on freedom of speech come from the professoriate, that herd of independent minds, and from the ever-thickening layer of university administrators who keep busy constricting freedom in order to fine-tune campus atmospherics.
.
The attacks are childish because they infantilize students who flinch from the intellectual free-for-all of adult society. When Brown University's tranquility of conformity was threatened by a woman speaker skeptical about the "rape culture" on campuses, students planned a "safe space" for those who would be traumatized by exposure to skepticism. Judith Shulevitz, writing in The New York Times, reported that the space had "cookies, coloring books, bubbles, Play-Doh, calming music, pillows, blankets and a video of frolicking puppies."
.
The attack on free expression is sinister because it asserts that such freedom is not merely unwise but, in a sense, meaningless. Free speech is more comprehensively and aggressively embattled now than ever before in American history, largely because of two 19th-century ideas. One is that history - actually, History, a proper noun - has a mind of its own. The other is that most people do not really have minds of their own.
.
Progressives frequently disparage this or that person or idea as "on the wrong side of history." They regard history as an autonomous force with its own laws of unfolding development: Progress is wherever history goes. This belief entails disparagement of human agency - or at least that of most people, who do not understand history's implacable logic and hence do not get on history's "right side." Such people are crippled by "false consciousness." Fortunately, a saving clerisy, a vanguard composed of the understanding few, know where history is going and how to help it get there.
.
One way to help is by molding the minds of young people. The molders believe that the sociology of knowledge demonstrates that most people do not make up their minds, "society" does this. But progressive minds can be furnished for them by controlling the promptings from the social environment. This can be done by making campuses into hermetically sealed laboratories.
.
In "The Promise of American Life" (1909), progressivism's canonical text, Herbert Croly said, "The average American individual is morally and intellectually inadequate to a serious and consistent conception of his responsibilities as a democrat." National life should be "a school," with the government as the stern but caring principal: "The exigencies of such schooling frequently demand severe coercive measures, but what schooling does not?" "Unregenerate citizens" can be saved "many costly perversions, in case the official school-masters are wise, and the pupils neither truant nor insubordinate." For a survey of today's campus coercions, read Kirsten Power's "The Silencing: How the Left is Killing Free Speech."
.
In "Kindly Inquisitors" (1993), Jonathan Rauch showed how attacks on the free market in speech undermine three pillars of American liberty. They subvert democracy, the culture of persuasion by which we decide who shall wield legitimate power. (Progressives advocate government regulation of the quantity, content and timing of political campaign speech.) The attacks undermine capitalism - markets registering the freely expressed choices by which we allocate wealth. And the attacks undermine science, which is how we decide what is true. (Note progressives' insistence that the science about this or that is "settled.")
.
For decades, much academic ingenuity has been devoted to jurisprudential theorizing to evade the First Amendment's majestic simplicity about "no law ... abridging the freedom of speech." We are urged to "balance" this freedom against competing, and putatively superior, considerations such as individual serenity, institutional tranquility or social improvement.
.
On campuses, the right of free speech has been supplanted by an entitlement to what Greg Lukianoff of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education calls a right to freedom from speech deemed uncongenial. This entitlement is buttressed by "trigger warnings" against spoken "micro-aggressions" that lacerate the delicate sensibilities of individuals who are encouraged to be exquisitely, paralyzingly sensitive.
.
In a booklet for the "Encounter Broadside" series, Lukianoff says "sensitivity-based censorship" on campus reflects a broader and global phenomena.
.
It is the demand for coercive measures to do for our mental lives what pharmacology has done for our bodies - the banishment or mitigation of many discomforts. In the social milieu fostered by today's entitlement state, expectations quickly generate entitlements.
.
Students are taught to expect intellectual comfort, including the reinforcement of their beliefs, or at least those that conform to progressive orthodoxies imbibed and enforced on campuses. Until September, however, the culture of freedom will be safe from its cultured despisers.
