this is my first blog. i'm sure it will show. so many things to be frustrated and out right angry about. of the people, by the people, for the people...when did it stop?
i am a high school teacher. this job should thrive as we choose to love our children. yes, we love them. teaching is no longer just telling kids what to add or what experiment to do or what verb to conjugate (tho that never seems to happen any more.) teaching now is comprised so greatly with, in actuality, parenting the kids we get.
i like in georgia. in my high school the blacks are 90% and whites 10%. do not misunderstand that the 90% are failures, because they are not. but present politics has put a large majority of them into the "i don't have to try because obama said he will take care of me and get me in college. he has fed my parents and grandparents and will take care of me. if i need i should be able to have it NOW. he PROMISED he would fix it. HE will find me work. HE will get me insurance. the white teachers don't know x*&!. i don't have to listen to them." this is a small percentage but is generational.
this year the biggest qualm was about letting kids who did not graduate/pass the EOCT's or graduation tests, walk in the graduation anyway. i guess they wanted the feeling of "time served." HOW did it even become a topic to discuss. you graduate or you do not!
yes, around 100% of the white, asian, indian kids gratuate. they WORK at it. they care. they have parents as support.
THEN there is the notion that the way you build education is thru either.
1. developing a DOE
2. fire teachers to save superintendents jobs...make them principals...who cares if they've never taught.
3. cut as much as you can from education(teachers) put it in technology. kids don't need to learn to write. kids don't need to research. kids don't need to think on their own. point and click...
well, as you can tell, i can rant for hours. i won't. we are surrounded by quick fixes that come from pushing aside the reality of education and how you get it and replaced it...quick fixes, no money and RACES TO THE TOP.
all you who read this please forgive me. do i have answers? yes am i fed up? yes but i love my kids and must prepare them, somehow, for the lunacy that awaits them.
it's good i teach theatre and now science. i'm sure i would have...well, not been very good

Exactly Matt, if colleges would background check foreign students we would not hve. had Boston Teroists kill and blow peoples legs off. if flight schools would hve. had background checks we would not hve. had 911, this admin is NOT going to stop them, they welcome them. College is where these mdrs. learn their hate for usa and for the americans.
You have helped to enlighten the people as to what the word "education" has become. I see the truth in the saying, "The world is full of educated fools". I would add, they often wind up in positions of authority. I think a background check should be performed on anyone seeking a college education. (Not to mention anyone applying for a political office) Lets just get rid of college presidents, and just have a group of teachers debate any problem, questions, and vote for an answer. That would save hundreds of thousands alone.
Sure i agree with you, they hail this guy Obama as the great black hope, with every quick fix under the sun and all the answers .When infact he has NO ANSWERS at all. just a pipe dream,thats as unreal as his citizenship. But all of us are in the same fix Right Now our country circuling the toilet bowl, and where about to go into a bloody,and costly war to keep our constitution, bill of rights ,and our freedom. and it's all because as americans we have allwayes taken the easy way, and we have aloud the Goverment to do it for us and through that complacence, and self.WE have allwayes wanted easy ,and right now. instead of doing for ourselfs,and holding Goverment at bay, and accountable. but i think you did a really nice peace ,and you would never no it was your first time, and i'm mad as well about the hole thing as well.
Gosh, for a teacher, she has miserable grammar skills, but what she is writing to absolutely the truth. Schools are areas that parents leave their children for teachers to baby sit. Many parents do not support their children feeling that the teacher are there to take care of their children. With this attitude, no wonder, our education system is poor.
I'm worried Ms Levitt may lose her job if her blog is discovered by anyone in administration. This is a very sad situation.
We just had a county vote on a school bond, The schools told us they needed the money so every child from 7th grade to 12 would be provided a lap top computer. I made sure i voted against it but it passed anyway. WHY? not because the majority of people wanted it but rather most people didn't vote and i a sure you every school teacher, every maintenance person, every one working for the schools were sent to vote yes for the bond. 95% of my property taxes goes to schools, yet they produce kids who can't read, can't think and know little of our American history. Most 7th -12 grade kids already have a computer so why are we paying for some thing most already have? there was a time when we held are school system as special and needed to be supported, those days have passed. The school system now is a huge Black hole of wasted money spent on elaborate buildings, the newest electronics and worthless teachers who become teachers for the pay and benefits it offers. A years pay for 7 months of work plus great retirement.
Home School or, send your children to Private Schools. That is the ONLY way they will get a decent education!!!
Thank you all in here tht. have served in the military and thank you to the teachers who had "heart" for their students. It is a generational problem with those on Welfare and multiple payouts for them, Hussein Obama wants this Nation to look like a third world one and he is fast seeing tht. come true. Not tht. we didn't hve. mega probs already he has put the finishing touches on it. RETIRE take all the benefits you can, take your$'s and hunker down. The stock market is scary to say the least and bubbles can burst again, never recovered frm. 08, find a happy place and hunker down.
Homeschool your children unless you want them indoctrinated with leftist sleaze! If you even pay attention to what your children are being indoctrinated to, check out "common core", this curriculum is in use in 46 states!
