The First Amendment Shouldn’t Be An Empty Promise To American Jews

{ thefederalist.com } ~ The First Amendment’s promise of freedom of religion is an empty one if all Americans, including American Jews, don’t feel safe in their houses of worship or welcome in their communities... With FBI data showing that 58 percent of religiously-motivated hate crimes targeted American Jews in 2017, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been making an increased effort to support and engage with the Jewish community, including by convening a summit on domestic anti-Semitism this week. The day-long event included speakers from the Departments of Justice, State, Treasury, and Education, including the secretaries of Treasury and Education. Panels addressed how to combat anti-Semitism while respecting the First Amendment, anti-Semitism on college campuses, the prosecution of hate crimes, and federal efforts to combat anti-Semitism. In his introductory remarks, Attorney General William Barr compared various forms of anti-Semitism to different forms of cancer, observing that the body politic needs a strong immune system that rejects both anti-Semitism and racial hatred. Speakers throughout the day acknowledged the patient is sick. However, Barr told American Jews that he sees rising anti-Semitism, not only in the widely discussed attacks in Pittsburgh and Poway, but also on the streets of Crown Heights, in desecrated cemeteries, and in zoning decisions intended to exclude growing Jewish communities. Barr told the audience, those experiences “form the daily background of concerns about safety and security that many Jews feel. I want to assure you that the Department of Justice and the whole federal government stands with you and will not tolerate these attacks.” That solidarity is appreciated during a week that’s seen the introduction of Congress’ first-ever resolution in support of boycotting Israel. The boycott movement arose repeatedly as one powerful example of excluding and marginalizing Jews—92 percent of American Jews support Israel—as speakers addressed how contemporary anti-Semitism manifests on college campuses, as well as in our cities and towns. During a panel about anti-Semitism and free speech, Jason Isaacson, chief policy and political affairs officer for the American Jewish Committee, said that this “discussion shouldn’t be framed as choosing between protecting Jews and the First Amendment. The best antidote to bad speech is good speech.” He also urged Americans to criticize their own political allies and insist that anti-Semitism is unacceptable, calling this “a battle for ideas” and a “fight for the soul of our nation.”....

{ americanthinker.com } ~ The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the self-described “Muslim civil rights organization” with a history of undermining law enforcement... has put the migrant crisis front and center of its newest efforts. Last week the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of CAIR reissued a community advisory aimed at undermining law enforcement efforts to conduct raids on illegal migrants who face a court removal order. The Trump administration has said it is focusing its efforts on carrying out removal orders on migrants involved in criminal activity. Among the rights CAIR-DFW and the national chapter advises these undocumented immigrants to exercise in their “Know Your Rights” pamphlet are: The right to not open the door; The right to not answer questions; The right to refuse to sign papers; The legal right to have a lawyer present; Of course, none of what CAIR says is untrue. Migrants do have such rights in our country, even though they have broken our laws by entering the country illegally. However, the scale of the problem is unprecedented. As stated by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the Associated Press, in May alone, 137,887 migrants were taken into custody at the Mexican border, the highest number since 2007. CBP’s executive director of operations Randy Howe stated on June 5, “We are bursting at the seams. Evidence has long suggested as much, but testimony earlier this week from Michael Flynn’s ex-lawyer... that Flynn’s former legal team had not seen recently revealed information purporting to implicate Flynn in a conspiracy with a Turkish agent—confirms it. This testimony came on Tuesday when Flynn’s former Covington and Burling lawyer, Robert Kelner, took the stand at the trial of Flynn’s former partner at Flynn Intel Group (FIG), Bijan Rafiekian. Rafiekian, who co-founded FIG with Flynn, is on trial for conspiring with his co-defendant Kamil Ekim Alptekin and others unnamed in the indictment to act as an unregistered agent of the Turkish government and conspiring to file a material false Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) statement. Alptekin is a fugitive believed to be in Turkey. The government had planned to call Flynn as a witness at Rafiekian’s trial, but at the last minute prosecutors informed the court that Flynn would not testify. Instead, prosecutors notified the court that they viewed Flynn as an unindicted co-conspirator and that they intended to present hearsay evidence against Rafiekian—something allowed if Flynn had conspired with Rafiekian and Alptekin to file the false FARA statements. Last week, presiding Judge Anthony J. Trenga held that the government had not yet presented sufficient evidence of a conspiracy to admit prior statements made by Flynn and Alptekin. Until prosecutors made a preliminary showing of a conspiracy at trial, Trenga ruled, the hearsay evidence would not be admitted, and even then the government may be bound by its prior admission that Flynn was not a co-conspirator. Then last Friday came the revelation that the government possessed previously undisclosed information supposedly implicating Flynn in a separate conspiracy with Alptekin. Rafiekian’s attorney disclosed this shocker at the close of a pre-trial hearing, telling the court that before the start of the proceedings, the government had handed him a one-sentence statement. “If I may read it for purposes of the record,” Rafiekian’s lawyer continued: The United States government is in possession of multiple independent pieces of information relating to the Turkish government’s efforts to influence United States policy on Turkey and Fethullah Gulen, including information relating to communications, interactions, and a relationship between Ekim Alptekin and Michael Flynn and Ekim Alptekin’s engagement of Michael Flynn because of Michael Flynn’s relationship with an ongoing presidential campaign without any reference to the defendant or FIG....

The unsealed documents show Donald Trump discussing the “the need to prevent” porn star Stormy Daniels from going public with her story of an alleged extramarital affair with Trump. This was just days after the “Access Hollywood” tape was released. In October of 2016, a series of phone calls were made between Donald Trump, Michael Cohen and Hope Hicks, Trump’s then-campaign press secretary although the content of their conversations was not described by the FBI agent. Federal prosecutors said Hope Hicks will not be charged nor will anyone else be charged in this case brought by the Southern District of New York, but scumbag liar-Nadler decided to continue to harass Hicks. According to creepy scumbag liar-Jerry Nadler, the chair of the House Judiciary and a proven liar, last month in her testimony, Hope Hicks denied being present during conversations with Michael Cohen and Donald Trump about porn star Stormy. She allegedly said she did not have direct knowledge of the ‘hush payment’ to Stormy. Creepy scumbag liar-Nadler said in a letter addressed to Hope Hicks on Thursday that her testimony last month “appears to be inconsistent with evidence unsealed this morning.” He is demanding she come back to “clarify” her testimony. “We write regarding your testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on June 19, 2019, which appears to be inconsistent with evidence unsealed this morning by a federal judge in New York. As I reminded you at the outset of your interview, anything other than complete candor can have very serious consequences,” scumbag liar-Nadler said in his letter. “Accordingly, I would expect you to clarify this matter before the Committee in very short order — but no later than August 15, 2019,” he said. If he can destroy the beautiful former model, he will. He won’t leave her alone. Her crime is that she worked for President Trump....

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ With tensions rising in the Gulf by the day as a result of Iran's increasingly provocative conduct... the refusal of the major European powers to back the Trump administration's determination to confront Iran is looking increasingly untenable. In the past few months Iran has been blamed for a series of attacks on oil tankers operating in the Gulf, and forced a British Royal Navy warship to intervene when a number of fast patrol boats operated by the naval division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attempted to harass a British-owned tanker sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, the main shipping route into the oil-rich Gulf. Additionally, US military officials at Central Command (CentCom) are currently investigating claims that Iran was behind the mysterious disappearance of the oil tanker Riah while sailing in Iranian waters at the weekend. Also, Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have been blamed for carrying out a number of attacks against targets in neighbouring Saudi Arabia, including a missile attack on a Saudi civilian airport and a drone attack on a key Saudi pipeline. Iran's most audacious act so far has been to shoot down an American naval drone conducting a reconnaissance mission in the Strait of Hormuz last month. The strike came within hours of provoking a military response from the Trump administration. Meanwhile, as all this has been going on, the ayatollahs have announced that they have resumed work on enriching uranium, a blatant breach of the controversial nuclear accord Tehran signed with the world's leading powers in 2015. Yet, while Iran shows no sign of scaling down its aggressive stance towards the US and its allies in the region, Europe continues to cling to the wreckage of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to give the nuclear deal its proper name, in the misguided belief that the deal remains the best means of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Europe's insistence on adopting a different approach to the White House in its dealings with Iran dates back to US President Donald Trump's original decision last year to withdraw from the JCPOA, after arguing it was the "worst deal ever."....

{ americanthinker.com } ~ Whether by accident or by design, President Trump has alighted upon the exact right solution for ascertaining the truest enumeration of American citizens. Not only that... but his workaround solution should have been done regardless of the recent opinion by the Supreme Court. That is, even if the Court had found that the administration could include the citizenship question in the census, Trump should still have directed his agencies, especially the Social Security Administration, to have their computer programmers write simple little programs to count up the people on their databases by citizen and all other categories. Americans who care about citizenship or just the corruption of our data should rejoice over Pres. Trump’s announcement on July 11. And here’s what’s nifty about the president’s directive -- we don’t need to wait for 2020 to get a much better idea of how many citizens are in the country, we should be able to get that data very soon. One datum I’m anxious to learn is the number of U.S. citizens still residing in California, the state with the largest number of illegal aliens. Americans are a highly mobile lot, and for quite some time now they’ve been fleeing California and New York for other states because of high taxes, cost of living, and undesirableness. Wouldn’t it be a kicker if Trump’s computer reports showed that those states are overrepresented in Congress? But here’s the real question for America: Should we be counting noncitizens to determine the number of congressional districts in the states? This citizen thinks not. The number of illegal aliens in the country can only be an estimate. The number that gets bandied about is 11 million, but some think it could be twice that. Getting an exact count of those in our midst who shouldn’t be here isn’t likely to be provided by the census. Foreigners who have repeatedly snuck into our country and have been repeatedly deported aren’t likely to cooperate with the census. And if they do cooperate, they might tell census takers that they have a lot more children than they do, just so more federal money will come their way....

Church Pays Off Millions in Medical Debt for 6,500 Families
Culture Beat: “The senior pastor of Stetson Baptist Church in DeLand, Florida revealed to the congregation how many lives will be impacted by their generous giving. Over the course of a single week, the church, which has only about 350 members, managed to raise enough money to pay off all of the medical debt of financially struggling families in five counties — some 6,500 families who were being crushed by a total of $7.2 million in debt — and fund three foster care facilities for a year.”
“‘In the coming weeks, some 6,500 people in five Central Florida counties will get a letter in the mail telling them the crippling medical debt they owe has been paid off, no strings attached,’ the Orlando Sentinel reported Wednesday. ‘It’s not a scam. It’s an act of faith worth $7.2 million to the struggling families.’”
“The idea for the special offering was prompted by the church having already met the financial needs of its annual operating budget this fiscal year, and the year containing 53 Sundays rather than 52, as is more common, the outlet reports.”
