Medicare for None
By Richard Kirk
{ americanthinker.com } ~ "Medicare for All," were it subjected to truth in labeling criteria, would more accurately be named "Medicare for None."... This is a point made early in Sally Pipes's succinct but detailed analysis of the socialized medicine programs offered by commie-Bernie Sanders and other Democratic POTUS candidates. Her book, False Premise, False Promise: The Disastrous Reality of Medicare for All, provides a chilling portrait of the much touted socialized health systems in Canada and the U.K. — programs plagued by doctor and hospital shortages; long waiting times; rationed treatment; substandard care; and, on occasion, appalling bureaucratic callousness. Pipes begins her analysis with a perceptive distinction between traditionally accepted rights and the assertion that health care is a right. The former rights, she notes, oblige people only not to interfere with, for example, a person's free speech or religious practice. Non-interference is required as long as the exercise of those rights doesn't restrict the rights of others, as it would if one yelled "fire" in a crowded theater. These traditional rights are labeled "negative" because they "require others including the government to step aside and allow people to act independently." On the other hand, in the case of health care, this "positive right" not only "gives us something," but also "requires someone else to give it to us." As Pipes illustrates in spades, defining "the criteria for positive rights ... is tricky" — a process that supposedly values equal medical care for all above, for example, the freedom of parents to pursue treatment for a sick child outside a nation's socialized framework, thereby making mincemeat of the most prized of all American rights, life and liberty. In short, residents of Canada and the U.K. forfeit a tremendous amount of freedom concerning the availability and quality of health care in return for a system designed primarily to offer an equal measure of care to everyone — an arrangement Pipes concludes "is a catastrophe for the people forced to live under it." Thus, a "right" to health care is transformed into the obligation to accept and contribute to a system that often provides mediocre and sometimes appalling care. When analyzing specific "Medicare for All" proposals, Pipes notes that the program's popularity disappears when folks discover that it would totally do away with the private insurance held by 253 million Americans mostly through employers and would be far from free!  commie-Sanders's proposal adds at least $32 trillion to the federal budget over ten years and likely up to $60 trillion, since it "would prompt unlimited demand from patients." The latter figure represents a doubling of projected federal spending over the decade. Add to that cost the inevitable hospital closures and doctor shortages tied to stringent government reimbursement rates as well as the dislocations caused by outlawing private insurance, and you have the makings of a perfect societal storm — caused not by the quality of medical care with which a large majority of Americans are satisfied, but rather by the cost of insurance. Far from reducing insurance costs, scumbag/liar-nObamacare saw a doubling of premiums in the individual market between 2013 and 2017. Meanwhile, employer-based family premiums continued to rise to over $20,000 a year in 2018. The bulk of Pipes's book describes the reality of socialized medicine in the U.K. and Canada, both statistically and via a number of gut-wrenching anecdotes. Statistically, Pipes shows that the presumed monetary savings of socialized programs are largely illusory, since significant costs are hidden in taxes and take no account of lost wages and productivity due to demonstrably inferior health outcomes. Moreover, the typical assertion that the U.S. trails the U.K. and Canada in overall health rankings is also debunked by showing that those rankings don't focus on specific health outcomes e.g., cancer survival rates, but rather give inordinate weight to socialist programs and even fail to account for the different standards countries have for calculating "infant" mortality. Additionally, those socialist-biased health comparisons don't take into consideration non–health related factors such as traffic accidents and crime that significantly affect life expectancy averages. When one compares like to like, U.S. life expectancy and infant mortality rates are comparable to or better than other advanced nations, and, significantly, specific health outcomes for treatment are consistently better than their socialized counterparts...  https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/02/medicare_for_none.html

'This guy has some guts': Democratic
establishment eyes Bloomberg as
loose lips liar-Biden falters

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ The Democratic establishment may be gravitating toward Michael Bloomberg after loose lips liar-Joe Biden finished a disappointing fourth in the Iowa caucuses and appears to be flatlining in New Hampshire... Fretting that liberals commie-Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth dinky/liar-Warren are too polarizing to defeat President Trump and concerned about the lack of support for Pete Buttigieg among minorities and seniors, Democratic operatives and elected officials who had pinned their hopes on loose lips liar-Biden are taking a closer look at Bloomberg. In the former New York mayor, Democratic insiders see a contender with broad appeal who has the fortitude to handle Trump — and the resources to compete. “This guy has some guts,” said Rep. Juan Vargas, a California Democrat backing Bloomberg. “That’s what we need, a guy that can win, has some guts, and quite frankly, would be the best president out there.” Bloomberg has ticked up to third in the race for establishment endorsements, behind dinky/liar-Warren, despite launching his campaign in late November. loose lips liar-Biden, 77, still has the commanding support of establishment Democrats, especially candidates and incumbents running down-ticket in tough contests. They have viewed the former vice president as the most electable against Trump, confident he could unify the Democratic Party while cutting into the president’s advantage with blue-collar voters in the Midwest and attracting disaffected Republicans in the suburbs. The former vice president enjoys a wide lead over the field in establishment endorsements. Yet loose lips liar-Biden has had trouble with young voters and the liberal base. Meanwhile, attacks from Trump over loose lips liar-Biden’s and son Hunter Biden’s dealings with Ukraine while the elder loose lips liar-Biden was vice president have some Democrats worried he is too weak to beat Trump. Although Democrats say the attacks are untrue, some are having flashbacks to scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton and the scandal surrounding her private email server that they insist was unfair but concede was damaging. With loose lips liar-Biden’s poor showing in Iowa and his New Hampshire support diminishing, Bloomberg is beginning to intrigue Democratic officials. loose lips liar-Biden received just 15.8% of the vote in Iowa, behind dinky/liar-Warren’s 18%. commie-Sanders and Buttigieg basically tied at around 26%. Recent New Hampshire polls suggest the former vice president could be headed for a similar finish there...  https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/this-guy-has-some-guts-democratic-establishment-eyes-bloomberg-as-biden-falters?utm_source=breaking_push&utm_medium=app&utm_campaign=push_notifications&utm_source=WEX_News%20Brief_02/08/2020&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=WEX_News%20Brief&rid=5261
Attorney General Barr Issues New Rules
For Politically Sensitive Investigations

{ npr.org } ~ Attorney General William Barr has issued new restrictions on opening investigations into politically sensitive individuals or entities... including a requirement that he approve any inquiry into a presidential candidate or campaign. Barr outlined the new policies in a three-page memo obtained by NPR as the Democratic primaries are underway and the country gears up for November's presidential vote. The memo was first reported by The New York Times. Barr's new restrictions follow a sharply critical report from the Justice Department's inspector general on aspects of the FBI's Russia investigation, which began in the summer of 2016 during the presidential campaign and continues to ripple through American politics four years later. The IG report was particularly critical of the bureau's surveillance of former Trump campaign aide Carter Page. The FBI and other intelligence agencies uncovered and documented an unprecedented campaign of active measures targeted against the United States, one that flummoxed the administration of President Barack scumbag/liar-nObama. The bureau — and later special counsel Robert Mueller — also documented extensive contacts between Russians and people in Trump's orbit, but Mueller did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Kremlin in its election interference. The Justice Department, Barr's memo says, "has a strong interest in the prosecution of election-related crimes, including those involving corruption of the election process."  But, it says, "we must investigate and prosecute those matters with sensitivity and care to ensure that the department's actions do not unnecessarily advantage or disadvantage any candidate or political party."...

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Newly released documents show that senior members of the Dutch government — including the prime minister and two former justice ministers — applied political pressure on public prosecutors to indict Geert Wilders... leader of the Party for Freedom (Partij voor de Vrijheid, PVV), for hate speech for comments he made about Islam and Moroccan immigrants. The documents, which the government turned over to the Amsterdam-based newspaper De Volkskrant in compliance with a Freedom of Information request, appear to confirm long-standing allegations by Wilders that the government's decade-long legal war against him is far from a principled pursuit of justice, and instead politically motivated aimed at silencing his criticism of multiculturalism and mass migration from the Muslim world. On February 3, De Volkskrant  reported that the government documents — numbering nearly 500 pages — show that as early as 2008, then-Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin was "intensively involved" in the decision to prosecute Wilders. According to De Volkskrant, the Public Prosecution Service (Openbaar Ministerie, OM) found nothing illegal about Wilders statements, but Hirsch Ballin pressed the OM on three separate occasions to change its assessment. In June 2008, the OM dismissed more than 40 criminal complaints against Wilders on the grounds that his statements were made "in the context of political debate" and therefore "not of a punishable nature." In January 2009, the Amsterdam Appeals Court, the second-highest legal authority in the Netherlands, overturned the OM's decision and ruled that Wilders could be tried for inciting hatred. Wilders said that it was a "black day for myself and for freedom of speech."...  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15553/geert-wilders-show-trial

{ americanthinker.com } ~ Muslims around the world are thrilled at the recent news: "Harvard University ranks the Koran as the best book on justice" is the January 20, 2020 headline of a report published by Youm7... a popular Egyptian news site visited by millions of Arabic-readers.  It writes... The official website of the World Muslim Communities Council said on social media that, after lengthy, scientific studies that closely examined the rules of justice contained in the Noble Koran, the American university of Harvard has ranked the Noble Koran as the best book on justice. ...In its final evaluation, Harvard University's Classification Committee cited verses from the Noble Koran which confirm that the Noble Koran is a book replete with the rules of human justice ... and that Islam has no room for injustice but rather includes tolerance and respect for the other. Several other leading news websites and newspapers — including Al Ahram, Egypt's most widely circulated and state-owned newspaper, founded in 1875 — carried the story, followed by all sorts of triumphant celebrations on social media. But is it true?  Did Harvard make such a pronouncement? No.The real story is that, back in 2012, a group of law students painted a number of historical quotes dealing with justice on the walls of a Harvard building. Known as the "Words of Justice," they consist of 33 quotes from a variety of thinkers and civilizations — including African, Chinese, European, and Hindu — from 600 B.C. to the present. Among some of the more recognizable names and documents quoted are Cicero; Augustine; Aquinas; the Magna Carta; Benjamin Franklin; Immanuel Kant; Gandhi; and Martin Luther King, Jr. Among these 33 quotes is one that is Islamic, derived from the Koran: O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. (4:135) That's it — the entire story. There were no "lengthy, scientific studies," nor "classification committees," that led Harvard to announce that the Koran is the "best book on justice." Rather, one Islamic quote was deemed worthy of inclusion with 32 other non-Islamic quotations. What to make of this shameful episode? Why would Muslims fabricate such a story? More to the point, why would they even care what infidel Harvard thinks in the first place?...  https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/02/the_muslim_worlds_inferiority_complex.html?utm_source=Middle+East+Forum&utm_campaign=42c8487647-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_02_05_09_55&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_086cfd423c-42c8487647-33703665&ct=t(N)&goal=0_086cfd423c-42c8487647-33703665&mc_cid=42c8487647&mc_eid=f33b9e6c12

by patriotpulse.net ~ House Democrats’ impeachment push failed. President Trump was acquitted by the Senate. But House Judiciary Committee Chairman scumbag liar-Jerry Nadler just signaled House Democrats weren’t done trying to remove President Trump from office... Here’s what will likely happen next.Democrats aren’t done trying to overturn the results of the 2016 election yet. Not only that, Democrats are just now realizing their impeachment push failed to damage President Trump politically ahead of the 2020 elections. Fearing they won’t be able to defeat President Trump at the ballot box with their current weak field of candidates, Democrats are pulling out of the stops in a desperate attempt to remove Trump from office. After President Trump’s acquittal, House Judiciary Committee Chairman scumbag liar-Jerry Nadler told a group of reporters the Judiciary Committee will “likely” subpoena Bolton to testify over the Ukraine military aid issue. Responding to a question of whether the committee would continue its investigation, scumbag liar-Nadler replied, “I think it’s likely, yes.” And scumbag liar-Nadler isn’t the only House Democrat Committee Chair to suggest their investigations of Trump are far from over. House Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney told the Washington Examiner, “stay tuned.” “We’re going to continue all our investigations. We have two cases that are moving through the courts to the Supreme Court,” Maloney said. “One of the major cases is his financial records and the second one on the documentation of how they made their decisions on the citizenship question that was added, which was then removed by the Supreme Court. We’re having hearings this week on four areas where they’re rolling back protections on children. And next week, we have the census director coming in.”

The Political Tragedy of rino-Mitt Romney
LmqFaLNdbqoTK2Zo2g3cdXbRTeiLjWeqKsWN-hTWcTXLor6GPJ9IXIi_Y3yesCu5pi_bI_5ZLtL_xdvuqgJ_XafBBcC4iwuCGaYgSbFLdiJIw4Lhw9iULX5WJXBseACqwynlkfnfZkMLmaDlSE4zhamxzVm_upcT8SaqXRI=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href=?profile=RESIZE_710xHarold Hutchison:  With his vote to convict President Donald Trump on one of the two dubious articles of impeachment, rino-Mitt Romney became the first senator in U.S. history to vote to convict a president of his own party. He also managed to cement himself as arguably the biggest tragedy in American politics in recent years.

Romney has served his country, including saving the 2002 Winter Olympics while working for free and serving a term as governor of Massachusetts, also forgoing his salary. He twice ran for president, which takes an enormous commitment of time and energy that, in Romney’s case at least, indicates a deep love for the country and a desire to make it better. The same can be said for Trump’s decision to run for the office. Had Romney won in 2008 or 2012, our nation would have been spared all or some of the woeful Barack scumbag/liar-nObama years.

As we noted in 2016, rino-Romney was right about Trump’s numerous flaws. (If President Trump’s personal life had been closer to rino-Romney’s, the GOP would potentially be in a much better position in the suburbs.) And rino-Romney has been correct about our departure from the principles of the Founders.

That said, despite grasping the problem, rino-Romney is a deeply flawed messenger who is unable to bring himself to do what needs to be done in order to get back to those principles — partly because he has been on both sides of every important issue. Trump, character flaws and his own flip-flopping notwithstanding, has been willing to fight the Left.

Arguably, rino-Romney’s “good guy” persona has rendered him unable to deal with the realities we currently face. In 2012, he was viciously attacked as a tax cheat by Harry dinky-Reid and accused of wanting to put African Americans back in chains by loose lips liar-Joe Biden. Had a fraction of the fire and energy rino-Romney aims at Trump been directed at dinky-Reid and loose lips liar-Biden in the 2012 election, rino-Romney would have won and rendered Trump unnecessary. Instead, he’s relegated to throwing barbs at Trump from the Senate, even if he does support the president’s agenda 80% of the time (more than several other Republicans).

While turning the other cheek may be good for the soul, in politics, it is unilateral disarmament.

rino-Romney’s vote to convict burned a lot of bridges and, in 2024, he will have to face the voters of Utah, who will render their verdict. He may well end up a one-term senator when he could have been a good president. That is the real tragedy.   ~The Patriot Post
