Allyne Caan: While most leftists have spent the last 23 days bemoaning the election results and pushing for recounts for no reason other than they lost, President-Elect Donald Trump has been building a cabinet that has some refreshingly solid picks. His list includes Sen. Jeff Sessions for attorney general, Sen. Tom Price for HHS secretary, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao to head Transportation, Gov. Nikki Haley as UN ambassador, Rep. Mike Pompeo as CIA director, banker Steve Mnunchin for Treasury, and financier Wilbur Ross for Secretary of Commerce. Some more prominent posts are yet to be filled, but the rumor mill includes some intriguing names.
As National Review's Jim Geraghty writes, "We may quibble with a few here and there, but overall it's a really good group ... [and] a pretty darn conservative cabinet." Indeed, for anyone concerned Trump's cabinet may include more Fruity Pebbles than brain food, his picks thus far should help allay those fears.
And while we've noted before that it's difficult to select our least favorite federal agency (there are so many), Trump's choice of Betsy DeVos to lead a consistent contender — the Department of Education — is particularly encouraging. A longtime school choice advocate and chair of the American Federation for Children, a pro-school choice organization, DeVos is a firm believer in empowering parents — especially those from low-income families — to choose the best educational options for their children. In her state of Michigan, DeVos helped pass the state's first charter-school bill. Who better to lead an agency whose stated mission is "to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access"?
In DeVos, children will finally have an advocate who cares more for their educational opportunity than for carefully preserving a government behemoth that condemns too many students to mediocrity and even complete academic failure.
Unfortunately, some would rather see the behemoth saved and children sacrificed. No sooner had Trump named DeVos than the usual suspects in the battle against educational opportunity — the teachers unions — emerged in full force. National Education Association (NEA) president Lily Eskelsen Garcia claimed DeVos has "undermine[d] public education," "lobbied for failed schemes, like vouchers," and "consistently pushed a corporate agenda to privatize, de-professionalize and impose cookie-cutter solutions to public education."
And American Federation of Teachers (AFT) president Randi Weingarten tweeted, "Trump has chosen the most ideological, anti-public education nominee since the creation of the Dept of Education," adding Trump's choice makes "maks [sic] it clear his admin will focus on privatizing, defunding and destroying public edu [sic]."
Of course, as Wall Street Journal editorial writer Jason Riley notes, "Since what's good for the unions is often bad for the schools, and vice versa, Ms. Weingarten's apoplexy is reason to cheer."
Indeed, while critics claim Michigan's charter schools are examples of what doesn't work, National Review Senior Editor Ramesh Ponnuru blasts craters in this argument, noting the purported "disaster" of Michigan's charters led to "more learning in a year" for charter students than for traditional public school students.
But that matters little to the unions who care more for maintaining their own political power than for educating children. As we've noted before, charter school teachers aren't unionized; ergo, they don't pay union dues. Traditional public school teachers, on the other hand, are often forced to pay the union as a condition of employment. Cha-ching. And as Star Parker points out, in the 2016 election cycle, the NEA and AFT spent more than $33.6 million in political contributions and more than $3 million on lobbying. Do you think they were lobbying for educational opportunity for kids? No, they were lobbying for things like higher taxpayer-funded pensions for teachers. That and they were donating to Democrats.
Riley writes that while DeVos has stated she hopes to "tear down the mindset that assigns students to a school based solely on the zip code of their family's home," Weingarten "has fought to keep persistently failing schools open because they still provide jobs for her dues-paying members."
Bottom line: Those who categorically reject the belief that parents should be able to choose the best educational environment for their child will never approve someone like DeVos, a fierce advocate for children.
Thankfully for the thousands of students hoping for a shot at a better education, DeVos doesn't need their approval.

Sanctions against Hezbollah
in Latin America too often limited

{defenddemocracy.org} ~ Sanctions against terror financiers are believed to be among the most effective tools the U.S. government has in its economic warfare arsenal... In practice, however, these measures have only a limited impact. U.S. sanctions against Hezbollah in Latin America are a perfect illustration of this. Since 2004, the U.S. Department of Treasury has periodically sanctioned Hezbollah financiers in Latin America. Yet many remain active in illicit trade and finance, are able to travel abroad, and likely enjoy significant access to the global financial system. Their defiance highlights the need for urgent countermeasures...

Egypt’s Unlikely Ardor for Trump

{defenddemocracy.org} ~ More than three weeks after the election, the American public remains divided over Donald Trump’s surprise victory. Six thousand miles away, however, one U.S. ally has demonstrated a far more unified response... Egyptians, particularly those of a pro-government bent, are among the world’s happiest about the Trump win. That may seem odd for a Muslim-majority country, given that Trump has floated the idea of a ban on Muslim immigration to the United States and even a registry for Muslims already in the country. To understand Trump’s appeal to Egyptians, therefore, it’s critical to look at the candidate he defeated. liar-Hillary Clinton is hugely unpopular in Egypt—a function primarily of her having served as secretary of state under U.S. President Barack liar-nObama during the 2011 Egyptian revolution, which toppled longtime leader Hosni Mubarak. Tendays into the revolution, liar-nObama demanded that his Egyptian counterpart, a three-decade U.S. ally, heed protesters’ demands and immediately step down. For those Egyptians who were positively inclined toward the military-led regime—and even for much of the apolitical middle,  which is concerned above all with stability—the move was a betrayal. It paved the way for the Muslim Brotherhood’s election a year later and its subsequent, bloody removal by a new military regime in July 2013. liar-Clinton’s close relationship with her aide Huma Abedin—whose family some critics allege is sympathetic to the Brotherhood —didn’t help her favorability ratings in Egypt...

{minutemennews.com} ~ Nearly 2,500 refugees from terrorism hotspots around the world are bound for the U.S. after being rejected by Australia, but not even top lawmakers can get answers about who they are... In an unprecedented move, the U.S. State Department has classified details on refugees to be resettled in America via a secret deal made with Australia. The bi-lateral agreement, which Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull called a “one-off,” involves 2,465 people currently being held in Papua New Guinea and Nauru who will now be transferred onto U.S. soil...liar-nObama is a complete jerk.

Threatening Electors Violates Federal Law.
So Why Isn’t Loretta Lynch Doing Anything About It?

{theacru.org} ~ Before Donald Trump’s stunning victory on November 8, liberals called for acceptance of election results. But since the election didn’t go as they’d planned, some have taken to harassing and intimidating electors in an attempt to change the election results... Some of these threats may violate federal law, yet the Justice Department acts strangely uninterested in investigating. Following the election, a coalition of liberal activist groups launched #NotMyPresident Alliance, an organization dedicated to fighting the inauguration of President-elect Trump. As part of that effort, #NotMyPresident distributed personal contact information —- including telephone numbers and addresses —- of electors in states that voted Republican. According to Buzzfeed, Maddie Deming, a strategist for the group, said they wanted to put electors in the spotlight and “to hold them accountable for their decision.” Whatever the intent, the initiative has produced a deluge of threats...  http://www.theacru.org/threatening-electors-violates-federal-law-so-why-isnt-loretta-lynch-doing-anything-about-it/

DHS Officials Engaged In Treasonous Alien Induction Should Face Prison

{rickwells.us} ~ DHS has abandoned even the facade of border enforcement, further enticing a flood of illegals to the American border. We can only hope that those responsible... including DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson, CBP Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske, Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol Mark Morgan, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and of course, Hussein liar-nObama will be charged, prosecuted and imprisoned for their treasonous actions and the creation of both a humanitarian and national security crisis. Having progressively veered away from enforcement of our border and immigration laws, and adopted a perverted definition of a refugee as well as an overly broad interpretation of our laws, there no longer remains any semblance of border security or enforcement. What our Border Patrol is now engaged in is a shameful, lawless mass induction, the processing of foreign invaders into our nation, in direct violation of federal law and their oaths to protect our nation and uphold the Constitution...

{townhall.com} ~You have to give President Barack liar-nObama credit for one thing: consistency. Nothing is ever his fault. Nothing will ever be his fault. Faulting Fox News and the American people, on the other hand, now that's a different story.

Do you remember when liar-nObama traipsed around the country and desperately pleaded with Americans to vote for liar-Hillary Clinton because his agenda and his legacy were on the ballot? He made a similar pitch before the shellacking his party took in the 2014 congressional elections.

Yet did he acknowledge after this 2014 failing that he had anything to do with it? Does he own up to his leading role in last month's presidential election?

Let's rewind the tape further, to liar-nObama's reaction to his party's stunning defeat in the 2010 congressional elections, which was largely about liar-nObamacare. He didn't acknowledge any personal culpability for visiting that monstrosity on the American people through trickery and deceit. He simply lamented that he hadn't done a good enough job getting the message out to the American people about it, despite his 50 propaganda speeches trying to persuade us to ignore our lying eyes.

Do you see the pattern here? liar-nObama's view is that the American people -- those in the red states, anyway -- are a little slow, paranoid and bigoted and need to be brought along carefully into the 21st century, where progressivism has ushered in a new age of enlightenment. His only failing has been in inadequately re-educating the bitter clingers.

Let me give you another example. Remember liar-nObama's depiction of the Islamic State group as "a JV team"? How about his claim, the night before the terrorist massacres in Paris, that the Islamic State was "contained"?

Did he ever acknowledge his errors there? No. Again, his only failing was in not having communicated sufficiently his counterterrorism strategies to the American people. He said his strategy against the Islamic State was working. This was before, as I recall, his admission that he had no policy. The problem was that saturated media coverage after the Paris attacks was fueling terror fears in the United States. He said: "We haven't, on a regular basis, I think, described all the work that we've been doing for more than a year now to defeat" the Islamic State. "If you've been watching television for the last month, all you've been seeing, all you've been hearing about is these guys with masks or black flags who are potentially coming to get you. And so I understand why people are concerned about it."

Again, there's nothing to see here. It's not a terrorism problem but a perception problem. There's no liar-nObamacare problem; it's just that the American people don't get it.

Even liberal New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd acknowledged, in 2012, that liar-nObama and his wife, Michelle, are condescending and aloof. The liar-nObamas "do believe in American exceptionalism -- their own, and they feel over assaulted and underappreciated," she wrote. The liar-nObamas haven't disappointed Americans; "we disappointed them."

Even earlier, in February 2010, liar-nObama pledged to "listen" to Republicans at a health care summit. But, as columnist Joseph Curl wrote, "turns out he meant he'd be listening to his own voice. By the end of the televised event, Mr. liar-nObama had spoken for 119 minutes -- nine minutes more than the 110 minutes consumed by 17 Republicans. The 21 Democratic lawmakers used 114 minutes, giving the president and his supporters a whopping 233 minutes."

And why do the rubes keep misperceiving liar-nObama's greatness? Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity.

In a recently published interview with Rolling Stone, liar-nObama denied that he and his party overlooked the "cohort of working-class white voters" that supposedly accounted for Donald Trump's victory. Absolutely not his fault. "Part of it," said liar-nObama, "is Fox News in every bar and restaurant in big chunks of the country, but part of it is also Democrats not working at a grass-roots level, being in there, showing up, making arguments."

The challenge Democrats have, according to liar-nObama, is not that they've neglected these communities from a policy perspective. "What is true, though, is that whatever policy prescriptions that we've been proposing don't reach, are not heard by, the folks in these communities. And what they do hear is 'liar-nObama or liar-Hillary are trying to take away your guns' or 'they disrespect you.'"

I repeat: This guy is remarkably, incorrigibly consistent. He has made no policy errors; his message just isn't getting through, partly because the conservative media are lying about it and partly because people are just too darned dense.

I hate to keep bringing up the past, but his war on the conservative media is nothing new, either. I wrote about it in 2010 in my book "Crimes Against Liberty." He began snubbing Fox reporters at news conferences for insufficiently pandering. The White House blog regularly denounced Fox News and other critics. White House communications director Anita Dunn recommended a "rapid response" to counteract "Fox's blows" against the administration, calling Fox News "part of the Republican Party." Presidential adviser David Axelrod said Fox News Channel is "not really a news station."

Remember when liar-nObamacare's principal architect, Jonathan Gruber, openly admitted that the liar-nObama administration was able to deceive the American people about liar-nObamacare and chalked it up to "the stupidity of the American voter"?

So go ahead and cry us a river about how the conservative media are mistreating you, Mr. liar-nObama, and misleading the public. You have been trying to deceive us for eight years, and the public has been onto you for at least 6 1/2 of those years. Now voters have handed you your biggest spanking yet, and you still will not listen. You can't listen. It's not what you do. But the American people have been listening, and they do understand your policies. And it's a new day in America.
