Perhaps Peace Hasn't Broken Out Everywhere
Well, so much for the "Pacific Pivot." That was the term coined for the nObama administration's attentive shift to the Far East in light of saber-rattling by China and North Korea. The "pivot" is yesterday's news: It's less a pivot now and more like a full-on spinning top. After seven years of his relentless onslaught against American military might, Mr. America's-Not-Exceptional has done everything in his power to ensure that America is not, in fact, exceptional. Now we learn the tab for this disturbingly naive worldview is coming due even while Barack nObama still occupies the Oval Office. All we can say is, God help the next commander in chief.
Acting as the better-late-than-never voice of reason for the administration, Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter announced a 2017 budget request of $3.4 billion to better defend Europe. The request more than quadruples the current budget for the region, and not a moment too soon. The money will fund weapons, armored vehicles, supplies and personnel to provide an increased U.S. military presence in Central and Eastern Europe, in an attempt to finally counter the largely unchecked Russian aggression in the region. The administration's stated goal for the increased budget is to ensure NATO has the ability to maintain a full combat armored brigade in the region. And just think: It only took one downed, fully-loaded Boeing 777, the takeover of two sovereign nations and an ongoing war against another to spur Team Hope to action. Who said nObama is slow to act?
nObama's listless war on the Islamic State also would get a shot in the arm — a 35%, or $7 billion, increase. The European increase is ostensibly a "one-time request," but we're pretty sure that's how all these efforts start out. It's hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube.
Our (ahem) "strategic partner" — Russia — was also quick to remark that Carter's announcement is "destabilizing and detrimental to the European security." That's rich. Russia of course knows a thing or two about the subject — just ask Ukraine, Georgia or Crimea. In any case, it's good that the White House stated the increased budget would allow for "continuous armored brigade rotations" in Central and Eastern Europe because at the rate we're going, we'll soon need continuous armored brigade rotations.

DEBATE, POLL FORETELL LONG SLOG FOR HILLY A contentious, sometimes nasty, Democratic debate between presumptive nominee Hilly Clinton and her rival, socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., foreshadowed a long, ugly march to victory for Clinton. And a new poll out today shows just how long it might be.
The Quinnipiac University national poll shows Clinton’s support has collapsed since the last survey in December, losing nearly 20 points to fall into a statistical tie with Sanders. Clinton is still popular with Democrats, but hard sentiment seems to be growing. Some 22 percent of Democrats hold unfavorable views of Clinton, more than double Sanders. The Vermont senator also holds the highest overall favorability among any candidate in either party at 44 percent and performs better in the general election matchup against all Republicans than Clinton. That’s strong evidence that her electability argument isn’t working.
Clinton’s battering of Sanders in Thursday’s debate suggests she is aware of her predicament. But she likely worsened her plight as she not only went scorched earth after Sanders but also made several head-scratching claims including that she was not part of the Democratic establishment.
She can still be considered a lock for the nomination but it is almost as if her preparations for a long, ugly process was a prediction rather than a precaution. -Fox News

The IRGC uses Mahan planes to ferry weapons and personnel to aid the Syrian regime... That’s according to the U.S. government, which has repeatedly committed itself to grounding the airline. Yet Mahan continues to fly the friendly Middle East skies and is even expanding its operations. Of all Iranian entities still under U.S. sanctions, Mahan is arguably the most significant. The U.S. Treasury sanctioned it in October 2011 for “providing financial, material and technological support to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF)” and for providing transportation services to Iran’s Lebanese terror proxy, Hezbollah. In October 2012, Treasury blacklisted 117 Iranian commercial planes, including all of Mahan’s aircraft, because “Iran used Iran Air and Mahan Air flights between Tehran and Damascus to send military and crowd control equipment to the Syrian regime.” The Islamic Republic continued to rely on civilian aircraft to supply the Assad regime throughout the talks leading to last year’s nuclear deal. A Western intelligence report leaked to Reuters in 2012 confirmed that Mahan was at the center of the IRGC airlift to the Assad regime.
