Fracking Ban Would Hurt Environment

{ dailysignal.com } ~ If a policymaker proposed banning cars and trucks or reducing the speed limit to 5 mph to reduce traffic fatalities, he or she would be laughed off the stage... Such a policy ignores the benefits of driving and disregards how people accept risk and trade-offs in their lives. So why should we treat efforts to ban fracking any different? Hydraulic fracturing, better known as fracking, is safe. Studies from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Geological Survey, and many academic institutions have all concluded that fracking poses no threat to groundwater supplies. The move in energy markets from coal to natural gas has improved air quality and reduced carbon dioxide emissions. And yet some states and counties have advocated for fracking bans, and more recently, several presidential candidates have called for the same. While a president doesn’t have the sole authority to simply wave a wand and ban fracking, a “keep it in the ground” administration could bury industries in enough red tape to achieve a similar purpose. But that would be bad news—for the economy, for the environment, and for national security. Thanks to advances in smart-extraction technologies, the United States is now the world’s largest oil and natural gas producer. Stripping the U.S. of that distinction without any sound scientific reason for doing so would not only devastate the country’s thriving energy sector, but all of the jobs and industries that support it. America’s energy renaissance has meant more work for geologists, engineers, truck drivers, and pipe-welders. Region with No COVID-19 Cases Confirms
Multiple Deaths from Virus

{ westernjournal.com } ~ The severity of the COVID-19 virus has been underscored by a pair of coronavirus-caused deaths that have rocked Iran, a country that has previously reported zero cases of the deadly illness... The BBC’s Persian-language site reported the two deaths on Wednesday. The two men tested positive for the virus before dying in the Iranian city of Qom, a holy city that is a favorite destination for religious pilgrims. These are the first deaths from the novel coronavirus from the Middle East to be reported. Before this, only three deaths from the virus were confirmed outside of China. There have been suspected cases in Iran, but a Wednesday World Health Organization update listed the Islamic republic as free from the virus. After the two deaths, fear of the virus is now gripping the country. According to the BBC, three more people are now being held in a hospital over concerns they may have contracted COVID-19. This comes as Iran’s deputy minister of health issued a statement identifying six confirmed cases in the holy city. The deaths come less than two weeks after massive rallies held all across Iran celebrating the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. With a lengthy incubation period that is projected to be as long as two weeks, it’s entirely possible the virus is already making its way across the ill-prepared country. { bloomberg.com } ~ A top Defense Department official who advised against cutting off U.S. military aid to Ukraine has resigned after President Donald Trump asked for his departure... John Rood, the under secretary of defense for policy, said in a letter to the president dated Wednesday that he’ll step down Feb. 28 “as you requested.” Rood, who had been in his post since January 2018, didn’t say why the president sought his ouster. “It’s my understanding from Secretary Esper that you requested my resignation from serving as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy,” Rood said in his letter, which was confirmed by Pentagon officials. “I leave with the utmost admiration for the outstanding team with which I worked at the Defense Department.” Some senior national security officials had lost confidence in Rood’s ability to carry out Trump’s agenda, according to multiple officials who asked not to be identified discussing a personnel matter. Rood drew attention because he was the official who certified in May to Congress that Ukraine was eligible to receive $250 million in security assistance. That aid was later temporarily blocked by the White House, a decision at the center of Trump’s impeachment. The president had recently asked some associates whether Rood should be released, according to a person familiar with the matter. CNN reported earlier this month that Rood warned Defense Secretary Mark Esper against withholding military aid to Ukraine in an email on July 25, the same day Trump asked the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in a phone call to investigate former Vice President loose lips liar-Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Trump was acquitted by the Senate earlier this month of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress over his pressure campaign on Ukraine. After the trial ended, Trump quickly moved to oust some members of his administration who testified in the House impeachment inquiry, including Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman from the White House National Security Council and U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland. Rood will be replaced by deputy under secretary James Anderson until a permanent replacement is named, Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman told reporters. The post is one of the most important at the Pentagon, managing the office that translates and implements policy set by senior defense civilian leaders. The office uses as its benchmark National Security Strategies published by incoming administrations and companion National Defense Strategies issued by the Pentagon....

In 2019 Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) employee, Henry Kyle Frese, was caught leaking Top Secret classified intelligence to his journalist girlfriend. These articles contained classified intelligence from five intelligence reports the Compromised Intelligence Reports made available to appropriately cleared recipients in the first half of 2018. The topic of all of these initial five Compromised Intelligence Reports – foreign countries’ weapons systems – was outside the scope of Frese’s job duties as an analyst covering CT topics. The media articles, and the intelligence reporting from which they were derived, both contained information that is classified up to the TS//SCI level, indicating that its unauthorized disclosure could reasonably be expected to result in exceptionally grave damage to the national security. Under a newly passed city ordinance in Cambridge, residents are still legally required to carry a driver’s license if they are operating a vehicle, but local law enforcement has been ordered not to arrest illegal aliens caught driving without identification, Boston 25 News first reported.The city ordinance, ordained Feb. 10, marks what appears to be the most lenient policy for illegal immigrants and roadway rules. The city councillors who passed the ordinance say it’s necessary given increased immigration enforcement emanating from the White House. “We need to protect our community members from a federal government that’s out of control,” Cambridge City Councilor Quinton Zondervan said of the rule. “There are no other reasons for the police to arrest someone, give them a court summons instead, which keeps them out of the clutches of the Trump administration.”....

Bloomberg and commie-Sanders Want More Government Healthcare
Thomas Gallatin: “If you’re bleeding, we’ll stop the bleeding. If you need an x-ray, you’re gonna have to wait,” stated Democrat presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a now-viral video clip from the past. The clip captures a conversation Bloomberg had over the rising cost of healthcare in which he notes, “All of these costs keep going up. No one wants to pay any more money. And at the rate we’re going, healthcare is going to bankrupt us. So not only do we have a problem, it’s gonna be [unintelligible] and say which things we’re gonna do and which things we’re not. No one wants to do that.”
Bloomberg then asserts, “If you show up with prostate cancer and you’re 95 years old, we should say, ‘Go and enjoy — lead a long life. There’s no cure. We can’t do anything.’ A young person, we should do something about it. Society’s not willing to do that yet.” (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, call your office.)
Predictably, Bloomberg’s comments invited condemnation, though his assessment of the costs associated with government-provided healthcare was accurate. As Sarah Palin warned back in 2009 — to great mockery from the Left — a government takeover of America’s healthcare system would lead to the creation of “death panels.” Bloomberg’s comments simply confirm the reality that in a socialized medical system, cost assessments done by government officials rather than a patient and his doctor would be the ultimate determining factor as to what type and level of care an individual could expect to receive.
This is what makes socialist commie-Bernie Sanders’s “Medicare for All” plan so noxious and dangerous to Americans’ healthcare needs. In fact, not only has commie-Sanders doubled down on his extreme plan but he’s now saying that it represents a “compromise” position. In other words, it doesn’t go as far as he wants. commie-Sanders opined this week, “My view is that Medicare for All … is already a compromise. It is a four-year transition period.”
The problem is that Bloomberg’s plan isn’t much better. He still embraces more government as the “solution,” leading inevitably to government dictating people’s healthcare choices. While he doesn’t advocate commie-Sanders’s plan for a complete government takeover of healthcare, he does call for a public-option plan that essentially amounts to scumbag/liar-nObamaCare with more price controls.
In the end, the “solutions” both Bloomberg and commie-Sanders offer to rising healthcare costs come from the same big-government ideological perspective. The only difference is a question of degrees of control.
