{ thefederalist.com } ~ This seems to be the final argument of Rep. scumbag-Adam Schiff, Rep. scumbag liar-Gerald Nadler, and most of their friends and colleagues in the Democratic and media sphere... Forget what we’ve been promising you about dirty cop-Robert Mueller’s report; disregard his finding of no conspiracy or coordination; and take another look at the circumstantial elements of President Trump and his associates’ behavior we’ve been talking about for the last two years. Never mind that all of these elements were thoroughly examined during the investigation and found to be either completely immaterial or insufficient to support a charge. Never mind that, when challenged on the materiality of any of these circumstantial allegations, we’ve consistently defaulted to the expectation that dirty cop-Mueller would prove us right in the end. Just forget all of that and trust us when we tell you that we never needed dirty cop-Mueller to establish collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians. scumbag-Schiff rehearsed this theme Thursday in his widely covered lecture to Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee in response to their joint letter calling for his resignation. Many in the media noted that scumbag-Schiff was uncharacteristically emotional, his strident tone animating his recitation of a number of Trump-Russia interactions he believes to be sufficient evidence of collusion or, at the very least, “not okay.” scumbag-Schiff’s anger and self-righteousness was reviewed favorably by the media, with a number of commentators noting his “passion” and that he “pushed back” and wasn’t going to let the assault on his integrity by the Republicans go without a fight. Left unspoken was the irony of a favorable media representation of the universal instinct of one believed to be falsely or unfairly accused to fight back with passion and occasional anger. With other notable examples of such behavior close at hand, none was mentioned... His hatred is blinding him..

by grassley.senate.gov: U.S. Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Dianne Fein-stein (D-Calif.), members of the Senate Judiciary Committee... are raising concern about a continued culture of secrecy in the federal bureaucracy. In a letter to the Justice Department’s Office of Information Policy, the senators noted negative trends in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), including a lack of responsiveness to requests, long delays and record numbers of FOIA lawsuits. Though the Executive Branch processed a record number of FOIA requests in Fiscal Year 2017, the Justice Department was sued more frequently under FOIA than ever before, and request backlogs continue to grow at many agencies. “Compliance with FOIA’s statutory requirements, including the 2016 amendments, is necessary to ensure that the public can fully exercise its right to know,” the senators wrote. In 2016, Congress passed the FOIA Improvement Act, which requires federal agencies to operate under a “presumption of openness” when considering the release of government information under FOIA. The legislation was authored by Cornyn and Leahy and supported by Grassley and Fein-stein. Today’s letter seeks details on the cause of the increased FOIA litigation as well as steps being taken to improve compliance and promote public access to federal records. The bipartisan letter coincides with National Sunshine Week, a time dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of transparency in government....

Legal Hurdles Exacerbate Border Crisis
Thomas Gallatin: Ignoring a problem won’t make it go away. Neither will claiming that it is not a problem. But maybe worst of all is actually acknowledging the problem, claiming to want to work to solve it, and then doing nothing. That latter response has essentially been the modus operandi of Congress regarding illegal immigration and border security for decades now, and as a result that problem has exploded into the crisis America is witnessing today.
On Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection commissioner Kevin McAleenan, speaking from El Paso, briefed the press on the current border crisis. According to McAleenan, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “is facing an unprecedented humanitarian and border security crisis all along our Southwest border. And nowhere has that crisis manifested more acutely than here in El Paso. On Monday and Tuesday, CBP started the day with over 12,000 migrants in our custody. As of this morning, that number was 13,400. A high number for us is 4,000. A crisis level is 6,000. 13,000 is unprecedented.” In fact, he said, “We are now on pace for over 100,000 apprehensions and encounters with migrants in March.”
He further noted that the number of families and children illegally crossing has increased exponentially to the point that “65% of crossings are now families and children.” The cause for the increase in family units crossing, McAleenan explained, was “a direct response to the vulnerabilities in our legal framework where migrants and smugglers know that they will be released and allowed to stay in the U.S. indefinitely, pending immigration proceedings that could be many years out.”
With regard to those legal hurdles that are only exacerbating the crisis, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen will ask Congress for greater authority to deport unaccompanied illegal-alien minors. In a letter to Congress, Nielsen highlights the plight of illegal-alien children, noting that many “are arriving sicker than ever before after traveling on the treacherous trek.” She further explains that the growing number of unaccompanied children (UAC) is due to the “pull factor” of current U.S. law that prevents DHS from deporting them back to their families in their home countries. Nielson also requests that Congress change policy to “allow asylum-seekers to applyfor U.S. protection from within Central America, rather than take the dangerous journey north.”
Clearly, Democrats are exploiting this crisis while pretending it doesn’t even exist. How reprehensibly cynical. ~The Patriot Post
