Congress Cuts the Line on NSA Data Collection
The Senate passed the USA Freedom Act Tuesday without amendment, and Barack nObama signed it, curbing the NSA's mass collection of every American's phone records. While it's a victory for privacy advocates, work remains in ensuring that the U.S. government respects the Fourth Amendment. Instead of scraping up records on every call in the U.S., the act dictates that private phone companies will keep the records and the government can request the information. The Senate's 67-32 vote split the Republican Party between its leadership and the more libertarian-leaning lawmakers. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McCon-nell complained, "There are a number of us who feel very strongly that this is a significant weakening of the tools that were put in place in the wake of 9/11 to protect the country." But Rep. James Sensenbrenner, the author of the Patriot Act, said some of those "tools" (i.e., mass data collection) were never meant to be given. Notably, Sen. Rand Paul, perhaps the most prominent advocate for NSA reform, voted against the USA Freedom Act, saying it didn't go far enough. With Sen. Ron Wyden, Paul proposednine amendments that would have required the government to offer greater justification before it spied on a citizen. For over a decade, the country has been in a constant state of war, allowing an erosion of Fourth Amendment rights because it feared a "lone-wolf terrorist" attack or another 9/11. But a state of fear is not a mark of a free people.  -The Patriot Post

The TSA Is Groping for Relevancy
In a recent internal investigation into the TSA's airport screening process, "red teams" working for the Department of Homeland Security were able to sneak bombs and other weapons through the TSA's line 95% of the time. In other words, of the 70 times DHS tested the system, the TSA caught only three attempts. For an agency with "security" as its middle name, that's a dismal and dangerous track record. In a statement, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson tried to downplay the findings. "The numbers in these reports never look good out of context," he said, "but they are a critical element in the continual evolution of our aviation security. … The Inspector General's preliminary test results are classified, and it is not appropriate or prudent to publicly describe these results." But the findings were serious enough for Johnson to order a special briefing on the report. Then the axe fell swiftly, as the acting head of the TSA was reassigned Monday. Acting Deputy Director Mark Hatfield Jr. will take over. As Reason's J.D. Tuccille notes, the vulnerabilities in TSA's security net have been "revealed, complained about, and baked in for years." The Heritage Foundation's David Inserra argues that perhaps it's time for the TSA to step aside and let private security firms do the job cheaper, friendlier and better. Clearly, bureaucrats groping grandma didn't make us more secure.  -The Patriot Post

Warren Won't Run, Nobody Hardest Hit
Say it ain't so! Time magazine reports on the demise of the movement to draft Elizabeth Warren to run for president: "Six months after launching 'Run Warren Run,' a quixotic campaign to draft Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren into the 2016 presidential race, the two progressive organizations behind it will call it quits and focus more broadly on a populist agenda in the 2016 presidential race, according to a spokesman." Warren has long been the great "Native American" hope for leftists who can't stomach Hilly Clinton, but she's been pretty consistent in saying she won't run. Ironically, Warren is more powerful in the Senate and among Democrats in general because of her decision not to run. Had she challenged Hilly and failed, she would've quickly been relegated to backbencher status. But now she can benefit from the unquenched thirst of her acolytes. And she didn't even have to build that -The Patriot Post

 THE MEDIA’S MISSING LINC
Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chaffee is not a suitable Democratic nominee. He’s a party switcher from a tiny state and who has a less-than-stellar track record. But as Chaffee launches his candidacy today why isn’t he getting the kind of loving attention that the even more unsuitable Sen. Bernie Sanders has received? After all, Chaffee is so far showing far more courage in taking on his party’s establishment than Sanders. And unlike Sanders and former Gov. Martin O’Malley so far, Chaffee is willing to hit presumptive nominee Hilly Clinton where it hurts: foreign policy. Liberals have cheered on Sanders for moving Clinton to the left but Democrats and the establishment press seems ready to give her a free pass on foreign policy.
As CNNs new poll confirmsPresident nObama’s Iraq war is at least a political disaster, whatever you say about the tactics. It is as unpopular as George W. Bush’s Iraq war prior to the 2007 troop surge and says equal numbers of Americans blame Bush and nObama for the rise of ISIS. The WaPo/ABC News poll substantially concurs, giving nObama a 31 percent approval rating on his ISIS policy overall. Even assuming Democrats back nObama at a higher rate than the general population, there are deep problems here. What would Clinton do differently? How would she solve the crisis? How does she explain the rise of ISIS in Libya after the rebellion she backed there went awry? These are far more important questions for the former secretary of state than how many brands of deodorant she believes as just society would offer.
Clinton can keep playing patty-cake with her party’s left wing by just talking. Clinton can elicit oohs and ahs just for using liberal buzzwords on income inequality, police policies, immigration and sexual practices. But on the question of what she would do today about ISIS, Iran, Libya and a bevy of other foreign policy issues: zilch.
Lincoln Chaffee is not quite as unlikely to be the Democratic nominee as Sanders, but the fact that his prosecution of Clinton’s record is ignored while Sander’s long-shot run gets so much coverage may tell you all need to know about Clinton’s structural advantages with the press.

Chris Matthews Interviews Pres. Of Anti-Israel J Street...
(Jeff Dunetz) ~ MSNBC's Mr. Thrill Up My Leg, Chris Matthews invited the President of the Anti-Israel Organization J Street to discuss the much-derided comment by President Barack (Chaim) nObama to David Axelrod about being the closest thing to a Jew ever to sit in the Oval Office... J Street, founded in 2008 with money from progressive sugar daddy George Soros, markets itself as kind of left-wing AIPAC. From the very beginning the group went out of its way to emphasize its motto of “pro-Israel, pro-peace.” But as fellow progressive Alan Dershowitz said about the group, "J Street is neither pro-Israel or pro peace." The group has little legitimacy in the Jewish Community, but was promoted by Barack nObama as an important organization.        http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2015/06/chris-matthews-interviews-anti-israel-j.html?utm_source=The+Lid+List&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=b917b1cec8-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_597b72c01c-b917b1cec8-291705165&goal=0_597b72c01c-b917b1cec8-291705165

Hilly: State Depart Sold Toxicological Agents To Foundation's Donor
(Jeff Dunetz) ~ An investigation by the International Business Times points out that during the Arab Spring the Hilly Clinton led State Department approved huge increases in "Category 14" exports to Arab countries who made similarly large donations to the Clinton Foundation... The specific category 14 exports were most probably tear gas used to quell the anti-Govt. uprisings (Category 14 exports are defined as "toxicological agents,” a broad designation that included chemical and biological weapons, as well as vaccines). For example during the uprising in Egypt as then President Mubarak was cracking down on the protesters who, with the help of President nObama drove him out of office, Ms. Clinton was publicly calling for the Egyptian govt. to restrain themselves from using violence in the crackdown. At the same time the State Dept. was privately clearing Mubarak for continued purchase of Category 14 exports.       http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2015/06/did-sec-of-state-clinton-sell-more-tear.html?utm_source=The+Lid+List&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=b917b1cec8-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_597b72c01c-b917b1cec8-291705165&goal=0_597b72c01c-b917b1cec8-291705165

The Evolution Of The Oil Weapon
(noisyroom.net) ~ In the age of derivatives, swaps, and electronic money transfers, a new form of warfare has emerged: financial warfare... Recently, the US has passed sanctions on countries such as Syria, Venezuela, and North Korea , but the majority of energy related sanctions passed have been targeted at Iran and Russia. An estimated 68 percent of Russia’s government revenue is derived from oil and gas exports, while 80 percent of Iran’s revenue comes from oil exports. That presents a very large target for the use of financial weapons. To understand why financial warfare is now so commonplace, one must understand how it came into existence and what has been achieved taking such an approach.       http://noisyroom.net/blog/2015/06/04/the-evolution-of-the-oil-weapon/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Noisyroomnet+%28NoisyRoom.net%29

FEDS PROTECT NEITHER FREEDOM NOR SAFETY
Judge Andrew Napolitano) ~ In their continuous efforts to create the impression that the government is doing something to keep Americans safe, politicians in Washington have misled and lied to the public. They have violated their oaths to uphold the Constitution... They have created a false sense of security. And they have dispatched and re-dispatched 60,000 federal agents to intercept the telephone calls, text messages and emails of all Americans all the time. In the process, while publicly claiming they only acquire identifying metadata – the time, date, location, duration, telephone numbers and email addresses of communications – they have in fact surreptitiously gained access to the content of these communications.     http://www.wnd.com/2015/06/feds-protect-neither-freedom-nor-safety/

IRS unsigned letter to brush off demands for Clinton investigation
(Pete Kasperowicz) ~ The IRS responded to a Republican request for an investigation into the Clinton Foundation's tax-exempt status with a one-page form letter that starts with "Dear Sir or Madam."... In May, more than 50 House Republicans asked the IRS to review the Clinton Foundation's tax-exempt status, after it became clear that the foundation had failed to report millions of dollars in grants from foreign governments. In response, the IRS sent Blackburn a form letter, which Blackburn received late Wednesday. The letter thanked her for submitting the request, and said the IRS has an "ongoing examination program" to ensure tax-exempt groups comply with tax law.        http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/irs-sends-congress-unsigned-form-letter-to-brush-off-demands-for-clinton-foundation-investigation/article/2565634?custom_click=rss

Hilly Blindsided Big Time By This Awesome ‘Gift’ From Texas Repub
(Norvell Rose) ~ Though she’s still keeping her distance from the media, Hilly Clinton is making herself very available to rich supporters who pay big money to rub elbows and break bread with the Democrats’ top 2016 aspirant... Wednesday night, as The Daily Mail reports, Clinton hobnobbed with high-living Texans who filled the $11.4 million mansion of a couple of personal injury lawyers who are ready for Hilly. The $2,700-per-plate political affair in a posh suburban Dallas neighborhood drew not only Democrat donors to the home of the Texas trial lawyers, it also attracted a number of Republican activists who stood in the street with signs that read such things as, “I did not have textual relations w/ that server.” The reference, of course, was to the Emailgate scandal that continues to grow around Mrs. Clinton and her controversial use of a private, personal server for official government communications when she was secretary of state.       http://www.westernjournalism.com/hillary-just-got-blindsided-big-time-by-this-awesome-gift-from-texas-republicans/?utm_source=MailChimp&utm_medium=email&utm_content=top-story&utm_campaign=DailyEmail06.04.15

 An nObamacare replacement that works
(Ramesh Ponnuru) ~ Tom Price, the chairman of the House Budget Committee, is the latest Republican to unveil a conservative health-care plan to replace nObamacare... It’s a good plan, although it could be made better — and it helps to clarify some of the trade-offs involved in health policy. Price’s plan would give people tax credits to buy health insurance. The credits would be based on age but not on income. Everyone between 35 and 50 would get $2,100 a year, for example. Both the Affordable Care Act and some other conservative health-care bills, such as the one proposed by Senator Orrin Hatch and colleagues, instead phase out tax credits with income. The credits could be used to buy insurance in a much less regulated market than nObamacare creates: No longer would insurance policies have to cover a federally approved list of essential health benefits, for example.          http://www.aei.org/publication/an-obamacare-replacement-that-works/?utm_source=paramount&utm_medium=email&utm_content=AEITODAY&utm_campaign=060415

Reviewing US policy toward the Islamic State
(Michael Rubin) ~ On September 10, 2014, against the backdrop of the Islamic State (ISIL, ISIS, Daesh)’s murder of American journalists, President Barack nObama addressed the nation... “Our objective is clear,” he declared, “We will degrade, and ultimately destroy, ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counterterrorism strategy.” Recent Islamic State victories in Ramadi, the capital of the al-Anbar province, and in Palmyra, a central Syria town straddling strategic crossroads and home to ancient ruins, show that almost nine months later, the U.S. objective is not on track to being met. Talk of an offensive against Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, common just a few weeks ago, now seems fantastic. Indeed, it seems more likely that the Islamic State will move this summer against Kirkuk, an oil-rich and multi-ethnic city in northern Iraq or try to strike at pilgrims or shrines in the Shi’ite holy city of Karbala, than retreat from Iraq as American policymakers hoped just a few weeks ago. Clearly, the President’s stated strategy is not working. Questions to consider are why, and what policies could strengthen the fight against the Islamic State.        http://www.aei.org/publication/us-policy-towards-the-islamic-state-after-its-seizure-of-ramadi-and-palmyra/?utm_source=paramount&utm_medium=email&utm_content=AEITODAY&utm_campaign=060415

Democrat Wants to Prosecute Climate Skeptics
(fixthisnation.com) ~ According to Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, the government should deal with global warming skeptics the same way the courts dealt with the tobacco companies... Writing in the Washington Post, Whitehouse cites the U.S. District Court’s 2006 decision that determined that tobacco companies had been engaged in a fraudulent racketeering attempt to “maximize industry profits.” According to Whitehouse, this is exactly the case when it comes to climate change. Covering his bases, he adds a little disclaimer to the end of his op-ed. “To be clear: I don’t know whether the fossil fuel industry and its allies engaged in the same kind of racketeering activity as the tobacco industry. We don’t have enough information to make that conclusion. Perhaps it’s all smoke and no fire. But there’s an awful lot of smoke.” And that’s an awful big allegation to make, especially when it’s coming from an elected official. One might expect a bit of prudence from someone sworn to defend the Constitution. Especially when he is advocating the use of RICO laws against people who are exercising their right to free speech. If you needed any further proof that today’s Democratic Party has disappeared into its own…donkey…then this should be enough to clear up the confusion.        http://www.fixthisnation.com/conservative-breaking-news/democrat-wants-to-prosecute-climate-skeptics/

Harvard, Syracuse Researchers Lying to Boost nObama Climate Rule
(Steve Milloy) ~ E-mails obtained from the Environmental Protection Agency show that Harvard University, Syracuse University and two of their researchers appear to have falsely claimed a study supporting EPA’s upcoming global warming rules was conducted “independent(ly)” of the agency... In early May, a study published in the journal Nature Climate Change purported to support a key EPA claim about its forthcoming global warming rules aimed at coal-fired power plants. The New York Times’ headline, “EPA Emissions Plan Will Save Thousands of Lives, Study Finds,” typified the media coverage. Are we to believe that a group of researchers who had previously received some $45 million in grants from EPA, no doubt hoping for more in the future, could possibly not have any dog in this fight? It’s probably not necessary to ask how this slipped past the incurious mainstream media.        http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/06/04/harvard-syracuse-researchers-caught-lying-to-boost-obama-climate-rules/

War Zones Here and Abroad

.
(burtprelutsky.com) ~ I really would like to put the recent riot in my rearview mirror, but nObama and the clucks running Baltimore won’t let me.
.
For instance, what nObama took away from the creeps running wild was that urban police should not be allowed to use the best equipment available to protect themselves or their cities from the barbarians. Instead of dropping the hammer on those who riot, nObama has decided that cops should be deprived of riot gear.
.
For her part, Marilyn Mosby, the prosecutor who assured the mob that she would deliver justice on their behalf, has urged a judge to place a gag order on the six cops she indicted and their lawyers. In the meantime, she constantly attacks the defendants in the media. Unless the entire state wishes to see itself humiliated, Ms. Mosby must be called on the carpet by the Maryland Bar Association for displaying such obvious contempt of the First Amendment.
.
It is a strange world in which states, cities and major corporations, condemn Indiana for passing a law guaranteeing the religious rights of business owners, but absolutely nobody suggests boycotting Baltimore, whose mayor essentially rolled out the red carpet for vandals and arsonists, and then essentially begged the mob for forgiveness.
.
Mayor Rawlings-Blake even went so far as to invite Loretta Lynch’s Justice Department to investigate the Baltimore P.D. for institutional racism. Keep in mind that Baltimore is just possibly the blackest major city in America. Its population is 68% black, as is its police force. Its fire department is 58% black, its school district 86% black and its city council is 90% black. Its Mayor is black, as is its Chief of Police and its congressional representative, Elijah Cummings.
.
But with all that, 54% of its population is on welfare, and the blame for that is naturally directed at white conservatives.
.
Liberals, as well as some bottom-feeding Republicans, blame black poverty on all sorts of things, but rarely mention fatherless homes and a 71% rate of illegitimate births. We all know that black kids seeking an education are often taunted for “acting white.” I wonder if black men who are married to the mothers of their children and who help support their families are also demeaned for “acting white.”
.
We are all very much aware of the exceptional blacks -- people like Thomas Sowell, Condoleezza Rice, Walter Williams, Larry Elder and Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke, Jr. -- but what constantly confounds me are the millions of hard-working, responsible blacks who get an education, learn a trade, stay off drugs and raise their children, but who still vote for the same sleazy plantation owners as those sucking up welfare as if it's their birth right.
.
Another staple of black apologists is to blame the staggering incarceration rate of black men on a racist legal system. But a fair number of blacks being sent to jail are judged by black juries, sentenced by black judges and defended by black lawyers. So it is rather difficult to blame white society for all the black criminals serving time.
.
To begin with, there are 320,000,000 Americans. Of the 320 million, whites number 206 million; Hispanics, 54 million; blacks, 38 million; Asian, 18 million, American Indian and Alaskan natives, four million. But when you study the prison population, the numbers are so out of whack, that you either have to accept that ours is an even more corrupt legal system than the one run by the Nazis, or that certain groups of people simply commit a disproportional percentage of crimes.
.
Whites constitute roughly 65% of the population at large, but constitute only 24% of those in jail; Hispanics are 17% of the population, but 35% of those behind bars; blacks are 13% of the population, but an astonishing 37.5% of those in the cooler. Although they represent 5.3% of the population, Asians are clearly underachievers in this one particular area, representing a meager 1.5% of America’s prison population.
.
Only a liberal would look at those numbers and blame the system. And only nObama would move to decriminalize drug dealing as a way to make those numbers look better. But as the Wall Street Journal’s black editorial writer, Jason Riley, has pointed out, even if we stopped jailing drug dealers, the black prison percentage would only drop from 37.5% to 37%.
.
♦ As bad as liberal policies are for America, they are even worse around the world. Because nObama is so adamant about having what only he regards as a major foreign policy achievement on his resume, he is leaving Israel and the Gulf nations to swing in the breeze while he offers Iran the entire Middle East in exchange for a signature on a nuclear deal.
.
If he had a single ounce of red blood in his veins, nObama would have sent our military over there months ago to wipe out ISIS before they burned, beheaded or crucified any more people. Instead, nObama and his stooges defend his inaction by insisting that Americans are war-weary. I beg to differ. What we’re sick of is engaging in wars we have no desire to win unconditionally.
.
If an American president ever pledged himself to wipe out those in the Middle East and North Africa who target Christians for extermination, who kidnap young girls and turn them into sex slaves and who exhort their pea-brained followers in the U.S. and Britain to execute soldiers, cops and civilians, I feel reasonably confident that his approval rate would hover well above 80%.
.
♦ Speaking of the shame of a nation, a reader recently let me know that he agrees with those who compare nObama to the totalitarian tyrants of the 20th century. I replied that I had no doubt that he shared the instincts of Stalin, Hitler, Franco, Mao, Castro and Mussolini, but, fortunately, he lacks their power to kill dissidents or even have them exiled to Siberian gulags. The most he can do is sic the IRS on them, which is contemptible, but not fatal.
.
My reader then wrote back to say that, unlike the way things were even in the 80s and 90s, thanks to current technology and mass education, we now have a lot of people who have amassed huge amounts of information, but only a few who have enough sense to put a washer on a screw before assembling something and wrenching a nut on it.
.
In response, I wrote: “Going back even further, we had a bunch of guys named Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Adams, who even knew how to put a washer on a new nation they’d just invented. But now everything is coming undone because of one loose nut in the Oval Office.”
.
