Homegrown Terror Threats Rising
Recently released transcripts from Orlando nightclub terrorist Omar Mateen further testify to the fact that he was indeed motivated by the Islamic State. The transcripts are of Mateen's cellphone conversation with the police negotiator during the attack while he was holding hostages. Mateen revealed his primary motive for the attack when he said that he had to respond to the U.S.'s airstrikes against ISIL that killed Abu Waheeb. Waheeb was one of the lesser-known leaders in ISIL. These transcripts discredit the statements made by Barack nObama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch a few days after the attack. Lynch said, "I cannot tell you definitively that we will ever narrow it down to one motivation. People often act out of more than one motivation." Remember at the time, nObama and the Leftmedia blamed Republicans for not moving to further restrict guns as they tried to spin the focus away from an ISIL-inspired terror attack. The bigger problem according to nObama was the availability of guns, once again deflecting any responsibility away from himself and his handling of ISIL.
Interestingly, but not surprisingly, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson stated that as ISIL has been losing territory in Syria and Iraq it has "increased its plotting on targets outside of Iraq and Syria and continues to encourage attacks in the United States." This is a message that many conservatives have been saying for quite some time, but the key issue at hand is directly dealing with the destructive ideology of radical Islam. It's well and good to recognize the threat in general, but if peripheral side issues which have little bearing upon the problem at hand are allowed to be used to explain away the primary motivation for these terror attacks, then we can only expect to see the threat increase.

Fracas Over Stop and Frisk
Debate moderator Lester Holt's claim that the New York Police Department's "stop and frisk" practice was declared unconstitutional because it was racist, an assertion seconded by liar-Hillary Clinton, was more evidence that Holt was heavily biased toward liar-Clinton. The actual facts surrounding the case against "stop and frisk" are these: In the 1968 Terry v. Ohio case, an 8-1 Supreme Court upheld as constitutional law enforcement's practice of stopping and frisking individuals who they deemed reasonably suspicious. This law has never been overturned and is practiced by police departments across the country to this today.
Holt's reference to it being declared unconstitutional is based upon a ruling by federal Judge Shira Scheindlin, who ruled in 2013 that the NYPD's application of the law was racially biased and therefore unconstitutional. Judge Scheindlin was later removed from the case under allegations of her own bias against police — just as Donald Trump correctly noted Monday night. It has been argued that Scheindlin's ruling would have been overturned based on the circumstances surrounding the case, had then-newly elected mayor Bill de Blasio chosen to pursue it. The judge's ruling was not concerned with the constitutionality of "stop and frisk" in general, but the specific manner in which it was applied in New York City. Holt completely misrepresented the case in order to challenge Trump's statements on law and order. Clearly, Trump was correct and Holt was wrong.
The nuances of political gamesmanship are something the Leftmedia has become very adept at applying. It's always a good practice to apply a healthy level of skepticism to any political claim, especially if the claims are made by the mainstream media. ~The Patriot Post

Another question is how could they all be so arrogant and careless to actually perform the document removal, transfer and disposal in such a careless and reckless manner... Then again, this is liar-Hillary Clinton, she’s got a history of doing exactly that. The little Wolf Blitzer looking guy immediately ran out to the liar-Clinton podium, first on the scene, to gather up her papers, what we assume were her notes. We also assumed that she had been slipped an advance copy of the questions and that was what she was studying in the days leading up to the event. This evidence makes that appear much more likely. The document grabber had access so he wasn’t just some random guy who wandered up on stage for a souvenir, and he didn’t hang on to it for long. The question is not only one of liar-Clinton cheating, we all expected that, but of the greater conspiracy which included those responsible for holding the debate and construction of the podiums... One podium seems to have been outfitted with a special light that the other didn’t have and it appears that the light was functioning as a teleprompter to give Mrs. liar-Clinton answers that she couldn’t keep in her addled old brain. It’s really hard to memorize things or have timely recall when you’re taking heavy medications for a mystery illness. The natural solution for a liar-Clinton and the Democrats is to cheat. Gowdy Did It – Angered FBI Director Comey – Integrity, Corruption, Character Questions

{rickwells.us} ~ FBI Director Comey was visibly angered by Trey Gowdy during House hearings into how the agency handled the investigation into the liar-Clinton email scandal... The hearing was titled “Oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” but they were clearly looking into the whispers of DOJ and FBI corruption that are growing louder and louder. Gowdy spent his time questioning the decision making of the agency and Director Comey, beginning with why they granted immunity to two potential suspects to gain access to a laptop and why there were five immunities granted and no prosecution. He wonders why an attorney for two of those granted immunity would claim to have received assurances from the FBI that they had done nothing wrong. Christian school goes to court to defend
a 30-second pregame prayer

Conservatives File Voter Registration Lawsuits that Liberals Say Are Blocking Votes

But it can take months if not years for the rolls to get updated... Now, conservative groups are taking a number of election officials to court, saying they’re not doing their jobs. Liberal groups think the real purpose is to make it more difficult for some people to vote. The lawsuits have targeted about a dozen counties so far in Texas, Florida, North Carolina and Mississippi. And even some cities, such as Philadelphia and Alexandria, Va. “This is an effort to make the voter rolls cleaner and to follow federal law before the elections in November,” says J. Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation. His group is behind the suits, along with the American Civil Rights Union. This attack, according to the Assad regime, lasted for over an hour. It also involved a number of warplanes belonging to American, British, and even Australian air forces. This aerial bombardment coincided with an offensive launched by ISIS militants, who then sought to take back government-held facilities. In the eyes of Russia and Syria, the aerial offensive was working in tandem with ISIS’s ground offensive, confirming their concerns the American-led coalition has been providing air cover to ISIS militants. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed the rise of groups like ISIS in the Middle East. Further Down East

{tommclaughlin.blogspot.com} ~ One measure of how Maine has changed would be the ratio of pleasure boats to working boats one sees tied up at docks or drifting on moorings. It’s about ten to one on the southern/western shore from Kittery to Portland, and gradually reversing the further down east you go. In Nova Scotia, it was hard to find a pleasure boat at all, so the trend continues the further east one goes. Crossing another item off our bucket list, we took “The Cat” ferry from Portland to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia last Thursday.

Activity by the sea is all business in Nova Scotia, and one lobsterman likened his job to farming. He said his boat is his tractor and his crop is that red/green crustacean. Weather is a factor and he works all winter, November to May. Sometimes his crop is abundant, sometimes not. Sometimes the price is up. Sometimes it’s down, and it’s all out of his control. Right now, times are good because the price is up and there are lots of lobsters out there.
Transom-less lobster boats
Lobster boats in the province are bigger than what one sees in Maine. They’re wider with no transom. The lobsterman explained that in Maine they tend one trap at a time — hoisting it up, pulling out the lobsters, re-baiting, and dropping it back down under its buoy. He, on the other hand, strings out his traps — twenty on a line, with a buoy and an anchor on each end. He pulls them up and arranges them on the transom-less back deck, harvesting and re-baiting one at a time, then letting them slide off the rear deck one at a time and getting out of the way as he does so.
Mavillette Beach NS
Land in southwestern Nova Scotia where I explored is not fertile. Hardly anybody lives inland and there are very few roads. There are lots of lakes but few rivers of any size. Yarmouth is at the end of Nova Scotia’s lower peninsula, which runs more east/west than north/south. The map shows a jagged coastline on the south/Atlantic side where I found more fishing villages, and straighter on the north/Bay-of-Fundy side where I found more beaches and some farms. Stunted fir and spruce dominated with few hardwoods, and I saw lots of bog. It’s a lot like mid-20th century downeast Maine.

Ethnically, the population has about the same distribution as Maine — mostly Scots-Irish, lots of Acadian-French, some Irish, some English, some Indian. The lobsterman asked me if I felt at home there. “Yes,” I said. “Why do you ask?” He said he felt at home all across Canada from there to Vancouver, but when he traveled to the states, he didn’t. When I asked why, he was reluctant to answer. “Try,” I said. “Find the words. I won’t be offended.”

In Canada, he said, people think “we” first, and then “I,” but in the states they think “I” before “we.” I pondered that for days and learning more about each town’s history as I traveled around I found clues about why he had that impression. Digby, on the Bay of Fundy side, was established by shiploads of Loyalists fleeing rebellious colonies that became the United States. So was Shelburne on the Atlantic side and British flags proliferated there — I saw more Union Jacks than Maple Leafs. Though ethnicities are the same in Maine and Nova Scotia, personalities differ and I wondered if traits like an independent spirit or a herd instinct are inherited along with blue eyes and brown hair.

As Senator nObama said in 2008, Americans cling to their guns. We also maintain a healthy suspicion, even hostility, toward government efforts to restrict them, but that’s not so in Canada. Handguns are forbidden everywhere and long guns are strictly controlled. I got a clue about this on a previous trip when a border guard spotted a box of .22 shells I’d left in the glove compartment. He called others over and they carefully searched my entire truck and its contents, going through every bag and suitcase while I stood around wondering what was the big deal.
Building a dory at Pubnico
A reconstructed Acadian Village Museum in Pubnico, which is the oldest Acadian settlement in Canada still inhabited by descendants of its founding families, was very interesting. It was established in 1653 by Philippe Mius D’Entremont and the entire community had been expelled by the British in the 1750s. Their property was given to New Englanders who moved up and took over. Acadians were allowed back eleven years later but couldn’t recover their property and had to start over from scratch. Colonel Joseph Frye, who later founded Fryeburg, Maine, was ordered to carry out some Acadian deportations, but I’m not sure if he did so in Pubnico. According to his diary, he did not relish the task.
The Cat delivered us safely back to Maine Monday. It’s nice to go away, and nice to come home as well.
