California Shoots the Messengers
California has charged two pro-life journalists with 15 felonies — essentially for committing acts of journalism. Two years ago, David Daleidan and Sandra Merritt of the Center for Medical Progress made undercover videos to expose Planned Parenthood's practice of selling and profiting from the body parts of aborted babies. The videos shocked much of the American public and brought about renewed calls for a congressional investigation and government defunding of the nation's largest abortion mill. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, a former Democrat member of Congress, leveled charges against the two journalists for secretly recording conversations with those involved in Planned Parenthood's aborted baby-parts selling scheme. "The right to privacy is a cornerstone of California's Constitution, and a right that is foundational in a free democratic society," Becerra declared. "We will not tolerate the criminal recording of confidential conversations."
This story stinks of unabashed partisanship, cronyism and government tyranny. Former California AG Kamala Harris, a long-time supporter of Planned Parenthood, chose not to investigate the damning evidence found in the videos, but instead focused her investigation on the pro-life journalists. During the investigation Harris secretly worked with Planned Parenthood to craft legislation designed to protect the organization. Harris has since been elected to the U.S. Senate where she is a staunch advocate for Planned Parenthood, which just happened to help fund her campaign.
California's case against Daleidan and Merrit is suspect at best. The undercover videos were recorded in public areas. Arguably it was done under false pretenses, but that was necessary for candid discussion. Even during one of the recorded discussions, top Planned Parenthood executive Deborah Nucatola says it's not a good idea to talk about the selling of aborted baby parts in a "non-confidential setting."
If found guilty on all felony charges, the two Daleidan and Merrit could be looking at up to 15 years in prison. The abortion industry is clearly seeking to use the force of government to put fear into those who would dare to expose and endanger their vile business. Has Sessions Gone Soft As AG?...

{rickwells.us} ~ Attorney General Jeff Sessions made an appearance on the O’Reilly factor, addressing the topic of Sanctuary Cities first, citing the statistic that 80% of the American people disagree with them... He says, “It clearly makes their own cities less safe,” pointing to the Kate Steinle murder by a multiple deportation illegal as an example. O’Reilly and Sessions reassure the illegals who are only violating immigration law or using an American’s stolen identity that they are a low priority for legal sanctions. If an American commits fraud it’s a felony, but they’re illegals, so it’s okay. The AG points out that illegal border crossings appear to be down approximately 60 percent, which he attributes to President Trump’s strong leadership on the issue. He says, “As we continue to build a wall and beef up our forces and bring in more judges, we’ll be even more successful there. {rickwells.us} ~ Lou Dobbs and Laura Ingraham join Sean Hannity for a discussion of the situation between the conservative members of the House, those who are loyal to President Trump and are being shunned... the President, and the RINO establishment phonies who appear to now have his confidence and his ear. The segment starts with a sickening display by RINO Paul Ryan in which he’s “interviewed,” by an anti-Trump CBS mainstream propagandist who assumed that President Trump wasn’t involved, asking, “Do you think that it would have helped if the President were more involved in the policy itself?” Ryan is more than happy to share the blame for the fiasco that he wasn’t able to force upon the American people. Ryan replies, “Oh, he was deeply involved. That’s the thing that I was so pleased and impressed with. He really rolled up his sleeves. At least partly because he’s “shocked” at the values, or lack thereof, exhibited by the millennial generation of young people, who are about ages 18-34. Trained as a teacher and psychologist, early in his career he was largely unaware of homeschooling, he explained on a recent series of broadcasts featuring guest E. Hawaii Buddy A Complete Political Hack

Malzberg points out that the libtard mayor of Seattle has the distinction of being the first to file a suit against the DOJ for “the violation of their right to violate federal law” as it pertains to their status as sanctuary zones, cities, jurisdictions, or sewers, as is the case with Seattle. They’re not challenging whether or not they are violating immigration law, only the aspect of whether the DOJ can withhold funding for law enforcement grants as a punitive action or to encourage compliance. Malzberg notes that some of the sanctuary city mayors are choosing to use other words to describe the same thing though not changing their practices, as if that somehow lets them off of the hook. {aei.org} ~ Since Babylonian times and King Hammurabi’s code of laws, two basic legal principles have guided lawmakers: (1) when you read a law, you should know what is required to obey the law; and, (2) a citizen accused of a crime should have the opportunity to prove his or her innocence... These principles were completely ignored by the authors of the Dodd-Frank Act when they created the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) and gave it the power to designate nonbank financial firms as “systemically important institutions” (SIFIs), a designation that imposes additional regulation by the Federal Reserve Board. A recent report by the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations on “The Arbitrary and Inconsistent FSOC Nonbank Designation Process,” followed by a subsequent discussion of the findings at a hearing on March 28, perfectly demonstrates what happens with an out-of-control government institution. The Holy Land: I'm finally here!

{wnd.com} ~ I have wanted to visit the Holy Land for years, and I am finally here. The experience is, as promised, exceeding my enormously high expectations. Finally, I can use the word “awesome” correctly and without exaggeration!
This is a 10-day tour organized by Living Passages and led by my friend, Christian apologetics author and speaker Frank Turek, of CrossExamined.org. We are visiting mostly Old Testament-related sites on the first part of the trip and those of the New Testament on the second part.
There are 35 of us in the group, and we are traveling from site to site on a bus with Israeli tour guide Eli Shukron, an accomplished archaeologist whose prominent Jerusalem discoveries include the pool of Siloam and tunnels under the City of David. Eli has a passion for making the Bible come alive by explaining the geography, history and biblical significance of the sites we are touring. Turek is complementing these teachings with his unique biblical and apologetic messages.
One thing that greatly distinguishes the Bible from other ancient religious texts is that the historical events and geographical locations it describes can often be verified. Let me just share a bit about the major locations we’ve visited in the first few days of our journey.
As we flew into Tel Aviv at midday, I was taken by the beauty of the land. We spent our first night in Ashdod, Israel’s largest port, located on the Mediterranean coast. Ashdod is where the Philistines took the ark of the covenant after they defeated the Israelites. The first book of Samuel relates that they placed the ark in the temple of their god Dagon and set it beside Dagon’s statute. The next morning, the statue fell face downward before the ark, evidencing God’s judgment on the Philistines for stealing the ark.
The Lord also afflicted the people of Ashdod with tumors, convincing them to return the ark to the Israelites after having it only seven months. They returned it by cart to the Israelite city of Beth-Shemesh, east of Ashdod. Our group traveled from Ashdod to Beth-Shemesh, where we visited the excavation of Khirbet Qeiyafa nearby. Here we walked through the impressive ruins of a well-planned, fortified urban city established during the time of King David (circa 1000 B.C.), which has been validated by carbon dating and pottery of that period.
Archaeologists also discovered miniature structures that looked like Solomon’s Temple and might have been models for the future temple. This city is believed to be the biblical city of Shaaraim (1 Sam. 17:52), which means “two gates.” Our guide, Eli, was animated in showing us both the eastern and western gates, which were clearly detectable even today. Large parts of the stone foundations of many houses within the city walls were still in place. From the high vantage point of the city we looked down on the valley of Elah, where David killed Goliath (1 Sam. 17). It is moving to stand in the very spot where these historical events occurred and it gives a richer significance to the biblical accounts.
We next visited the active archaeological site Tel Mareshah, where we were invited to participate in the dig. One member of our group discovered an oil lamp dated around 300 B.C.
From there we went to the site of the ancient city of Lachish, which was originally conquered by Joshua and later was second only to Jerusalem in strategic importance to Judah, whose king, Rehoboam, fortified the city for the defense of his kingdom (2 Chronicles 11:9).
The Assyrians had already conquered the northern kingdom of Israel in 722 B.C. and had their sights set on the southern kingdom of Judah. Accordingly, Assyrian King Sennacherib invaded Judah and conquered Lachish in 701 B.C. He memorialized this victory with a series of reliefs that he had carved on his palace walls in Nineveh, which depicted the siege and capture of Lachish (2 Kings 18:14, 17; 19:8; 2 Chronicles 32:9; Isaiah 36:2; 37; 37:8; Micah 1:13). Those reliefs are now in the British Museum.
When Sennacherib put siege to Jerusalem, as the Bible says, he couldn’t overtake the city. While not claiming victory, Sennacherib bragged that he had Judah’s King “Hezekiah caged like a bird” on the ancient Taylor Prism found in Iraq in 1830. This Prism is also in the British Museum and is verification of another event in the Bible.
It is difficult to express the majesty of these ancient areas and to adequately explain their profound impact. Though I have read and studied the Old Testament, I can’t begin to describe how much more meaningful its stories are after walking the grounds on which they unfolded. We have barely begun our journey and it is already the trip of my lifetime. Nothing else compares. In a later column, I’ll tell you about the New Testament sites we visit.
