US Air Force conducts airstrikes
using new F-35A fighter jets for first time

That initiative includes ensuring all branches have the latest and greatest technologies available, and the U.S. Air Force just took a major step in this direction by showcasing for the first time in battle the capabilities of the F-35A fighter jet. Defense News reported that U.S. Air Force Central Command used two of the new F-35A’s on April 30 to conduct airstrikes against a suspected tunnel network and weapons cache being used by the remnants of the Islamic State group in Iraq. The strikes on Tuesday reportedly represent the first time the U.S. Air Force has used the new advanced fighter jets in combat, though the Israeli Air Force had already used F-35s to conduct airstrikes in May 2018, and the U.S. Marines had used the F-35 B variant in combat in September 2018. The airstrikes occurred in northeast Iraq near Wadi Ashai, where the Islamic State group was attempting to regroup and create a staging area for future attacks aimed at re-establishing the destroyed “caliphate.” U.S Central Command, along with Iraqi Security Forces, became aware of the munitions, equipment and personnel that had been gathered together in the area and determined that a counter-offensive would be necessary to disrupt the Islamic State group’s conditions for their resurgence...

The Forgotten Armenian Genocide of 1019 AD

Ironically, most people, including most Armenians, are unaware that the first genocide of Christian Armenians at the hands of Muslim Turks did not occur in the twentieth century; rather it began in 1019 -- exactly one thousand years ago this year -- when Turks first began to pour into and transform a then much larger Armenia into what it is today, the eastern portion of modern-day Turkey. Thus, in 1019, “the first appearance of the bloodthirsty beasts… the savage nation of infidels called Turks entered Armenia… and mercilessly slaughtered the Christian faithful with the sword,” writes Matthew of Edessa (d.1144), a chief source for this period. Three decades later the raids were virtually nonstop. In 1049, the founder of the Turkic Seljuk Empire himself, Sultan Tughril Bey (r. 1037–1063), reached the unwalled city of Arzden, west of Lake Van, and “put the whole town to the sword, causing severe slaughter, as many as one hundred and fifty thousand persons.” After thoroughly plundering the city -- which reportedly contained eight hundred churches -- he ordered it set ablaze and turned into a desert. Arzden was “filled with bodies” and none “could count the number of those who perished in the flames.” The invaders “burned priests whom they seized in the churches and massacred those whom they found outside. They put great chunks of pork in the hands of the undead to insult us” -- Muslims deem the pig unclean -- “and made them objects of mockery to all who saw them.” Eight hundred oxen and forty camels were required to cart out the vast plunder, mostly taken from Arzden’s churches. “How to relate here, with a voice stifled by tears, the death of nobles and clergy whose bodies, left without graves, became the prey of carrion beasts, the exodus of women… led with their children into Persian slavery and condemned to an eternal servitude! That was the beginning of the misfortunes of Armenia,” laments Matthew, “So, lend an ear to this melancholy recital.”...

Palestinian Leaders and Inconvenient Truths
by Khaled Abu Toameh the Arabs "affirmed their commitment to support the budget of the state of Palestine by activating the resolution of the Arab summit in Tunisia to provide a $100 million safety net to the Palestinians each month." The Arab foreign ministers announced their decision after listening to a speech by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who complained that his government was facing a financial crisis because of Israeli and US measures. Abbas was referring to Israel's decision to deduct payments made by the Palestinian Authority (PA) government to families of security prisoners and "martyrs" from tax revenues that Israel collects each month on behalf of the Palestinians. Earlier this year, the Israeli government announced it is deducting hundreds of millions of shekels from the tax funds it collects on behalf of the Palestinians because of the PA's policy of paying salaries to terrorists and their families. The decision was in accordance with an Israeli law passed in July 2018. Under the law, the payments made by the PA government would automatically be frozen by the Israeli government, in accordance with the Paris Protocol, an agreement signed between Israel and the PLO in 1994 that allows Israel to collect and transfer to the PA government the import taxes on goods that were intended for the Palestinians. The law also requires the Israeli Defense Ministry to provide the cabinet with data on the amount the PA pays terrorists and their families. Israel's Finance Ministry will then withhold that amount from the tax funds it transfers...

Wulfsohn There were no immediate reports of fatalities following the blast, which occurred around 9 p.m. local time at the AB Specialty Silicone plant in Waukegan, the Lake County News-Sun reported. But Chicago's WLS-TV and WSNS-TV reported Saturday morning that three people were unaccounted for. Emergency response personnel quickly advised the public to stay away from the area. The plant is directly across from an emissions testing facility, a witness told the newspaper. "It was leveled," Megan Hener, who lives six blocks from the site, said. "It shook our house and shook my insides," she added. Illinois state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, wrote on Facebook that employees of an unspecified business were inside the building at the time of the explosion, citing information she said she received from Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham...

Justice Kavanaugh is Still Triggering the Left
by Nicholas J. KasterThus, when George Mason University recently announced that Justice Brett Kavanaugh would co-teach along with Professor Jennifer L. Mascott a summer class at its Antonin Scalia Law School, the campus Left was seriously triggered. Students immediately launched protests, a petition drive, and an ad campaign claiming that they would suffer harm due to the uncorroborated allegations of sexual assault made against Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings last fall. Reason's Robby Soave described the unhinged response: 'The hiring of Kavanaugh threatens the mental well-being of all survivors on this campus,' said one female student during the public comment period of GMU's board meeting last week… Another student, a survivor of sexual violence, claimed that her mental health had already suffered as a result of the Antonin Scalia Law School's decision to hire Kavanaugh. 'It is affecting my mental health knowing that an abuser will be part of our faculty,' she said. A third student said, ‘As someone who has survived sexual assault three times, I do not feel comfortable with someone who has sexual assault allegations walking on campus.' And it wasn’t just students. Professor Bethany Letiecq, president of GMU's chapter of the American Association of University Professors, actually suggested that the university conduct its own separate investigation of Kavanaugh. “It's hard to imagine what such an investigation would even look like,” Soave noted, “given that the incidents in question do not involve GMU, were made three decades ago, and were already explored by the federal government and the news media.”...

Sports Illustrated — Irony in a BurkiniNate Jackson: The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue has a long history of providing a platform for beautiful young women to flaunt their bodies so that men of all ages can objectify them. Thus, we find great irony in the latest issue featuring a Somali-American model in poses that would be sexy except that her so-called “burkini” and hijab cover up all but her face, hands, and feet.
Make no mistake: We’re not complaining about the lack of skin. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Mark Alexander wrote last year about his friend Jenny Baker, who “has devoted much of her adult life to educating women about the terrible burden of distorted female images propagated by the media — particularly the suffering this creates for adolescent girls.” The impetus for that article was Sports Illustrated’s “Me Too” swimsuit issue, complete with strategically covered nude models “tattooed” with “empowering” feminist slogans. This, we suppose, was to teach the millions of men ogling at women to look but don’t touch.
The irony, of course, is that now SI is so “woke” and “inclusive” that it’s including a Muslim woman in the latest issue. That young model, Halima Aden, said, “I wanted people to see that you could still be really cute and modest at the same time.”
First, the whole point of a burka is to hide a woman’s body from roving male eyes, so it defies reason to make that a sex symbol. (It may defy marketing too — we’ll see how many men buy the magazine.) Second, Islam is very often exploitative of women. Not only are women second-class citizens in most of the Islamic world, but they suffer “justified” domestic violence, genital mutilation, and “honor killings” — including for notwearing a burka. We suppose Muslim men just take after Muhammad himself.
In short, Sports Illustrated has serious problems that a sprinkling of diversity isn’t going to solve. ~The Patriot Post
